2016-2017 Wake Forest University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
everyone relax. its been said by an adcom of wake that wake forest's screen is mild, but they send secondaries in batches. they specifically said not to read into how long it took to get a secondary. i was verified super early, and technically it took a month to receive my secondary. but i got one on one of the first days they sent out secondaries. its all random, and doesn't say you're awesome or not awesome if you get one quickly or slowly. just pre-write and turn it around super quick once you get one.

Out of 8000 apps, around 2500 get sent secondaries according to a post from last year's thread

I sent in my secondary on the last day of the deadline at 9:01PM pacific time. The email I received said by midnight but did not specify if it was eastern or pacific smh

Lol I can't believe that we have reached secondary deadlines so soon. This cycle is going way too fast. I want someone to say "snap out of it joe" everyday cause I am literally checking my mail and sdn constantly. If I don't get mail by 2pm every single day, I don't hold expectations for the rest of the day after that🙄

One thing to know is that sometimes school emails block WF emails. I know that I got the three week deadline notice and needed to email the office about not getting a secondary. They were super nice about it though!

Received the complete email on Friday
Anyone know how long it takes to potentially receive a II from the complete email?

Hi all, advice question here:

I completed/submitted my secondary 9/3 and paid my application fee. I got a receipt page but no confirmation email. Since then I haven't received any notification my app has been marked 'complete,' even though all my LORs are submitted and I'm complete at all my other schools. Is it worth calling admissions yet or should I give it more time? Did any of you all have to wait this long to be marked complete?

OOS applicant, LizzyM 78-80, if that matters..

Thanks!

Mine took a little over two weeks after submitting to get marked complete.

Does anyone know when wake starts to increase ii offers? I don't know if it is steady increments throughout cycle.

For those who have interviewed here, how was the experience?? Looking forward to heading to Winston Salem next week 😉

I have interviewed here. I would say that the atmosphere is very relaxed and low stress. Students and staff try to make you feel welcome and comfortable during what is inherently a stressful day. Interviews were semi-closed file. They have your activities, essays, etc. but no MCAT or gpa info. I had 2 faculty (physicians) and 1 student interview, but I don't know if this is the same format for every interview day. Interviews were 20 min each and went by really fast. I didn't get any trick questions or anything like that. Most questions were about stuff on my app. They basically just want to know who you are as a person. I had a really positive experience and got a great impression of the school overall.

Thanks! And the options given to me were Oct. 6, 11, 13, 14, 28. There are morning 8am and 10am start times too for each date though I'm not sure if both time slots are available for each of those days.

Congrats! Do you know what days are available for interviews?

My interview was almost exactly the same. Everyone was extremely nice. The school itself is beautiful and state of the art. I had another interview last week, and Wake made it look medieval by comparison. Tour guides talked a lot about how non-competitive everyone was, and much more collaborative. Overall just seems like a great environment.

I'm a Winston native and FYI their new campus is the tits, so grats to everyone who gets to use it!

Also, does the change in admissions requirements mean that Orgo II isn't required now? (I'm not applying, I'm just asking for the years ahead)

got the complete email on 9/6 has anyone heard back since being complete early sept?

Yes. No requirements.

after you certify your application, it takes you to where you can pay. but after entering and submitting the payment information, it doesn't say anything about it being successfully submitted at all. so how do we know our application even went through?

I got a complete email about 2 weeks after submitting

The no required courses gives some flexibility to the applicants. If someone tried to apply without biology and chemistry they wouldn't get very far.
Yeah I know WFU does that holistically too. They took away SAT and ACT from their UG admissions a while back with emphasis on essays which was cool

Is anyone else having difficulty getting the applicant portal page to load? For about a month, I haven't been able to get the login screen to load using Safari. I'm assuming that the school will email any significant change in applicant status, but I just want to be sure that I'm not missing something.

I wouldn't be concerned. The complete email stated interview invitations would be emailed.

Would someone mind posting the link to applicant portal where we can view our status? Congrats to everyone who has received interviews thus far!!! 🙂

Just came back to review my secondary essays and saw all the " and ' appear to be ?
For ex, someone's life --> someone? life or We're --> We?re
Does that happen to everyone or just me? How can i fix them?

"There is a formatting issue with copying and pasting essays from other programs. If you see upside down question marks in your essays after you have saved or submitted your application, we are aware of the issue and it will not go against your application in any way."

per the email with the secondary link
