2016-2017 Wayne State University Application Thread

Maybe I'm just too excited to get this correct, but can anyone tell me what neighborhood I should be trying to stay in for an interview? Say I'm trying to Airbnb, what should I narrow it down to?

Probably hazel park, madison heights, royal oak. I live in hazel park. Decent area, and only about 10 minutes from wayne

Did anyone get any payment confirmation or email for completion of app? I didn't get either of those so just checking.

For all of you that have already interviewed, did you bring a notepad, resumes, or anything like that to your interview?

A peek of what's to come if you attend Wayne state!

I brought a little notebook for writing down names. Great School would love to attend!

Does anyone remember if we uploaded pictures with our secondary?

Bedbugs will be a problem at any urban medical school you go to. WSUSOM has a protocol for dealing with bedbug infestations and they address the problem diligently whenever there is one. I wouldn't make much of that sign.

Also wanted to chime in and say that I'm an M1 here! I'm available to answer any questions you all may have.

I have a few questions - would you be able to message me?

Can you message me as well please?

Messaged. I would rather post here btw so that all the other applicants can look at the answers as well, so if anyone else has questions, don't be shy to post on the thread itself.

please give interview tips. thanks

My WSUSOM interview was the most lax one out of all the ones I had, so I wouldn't stress over it too much. Go over your personal statement and your activities list the night before your interview. Try to have answers to "Why Medicine?" and "Why WSUSOM/Urban Medical School?" questions ready. For the MMI's unfortunately, I can't give you all too much information because not much has been shared with us, but key rule of thumbs are "patient autonomy trumps everything" and "do your best to deescalate a situation when a problem arises". The most important thing is to be relaxed and just be yourself to show the school who you really are.

Is it one on one first and then MMI? Or do they send some people to do MMIs first?

Also for the MMI, do you read the prompt outside the room, have a moment then walk in an give your answer? Or is it like you sit across from them, read the prompt, and have to think while they're staring at you?

Another q, is the MMI acting? Or is it just presenting your answer to the person? Because my acting skills absolutely suck

I'm coming from New Jersey for this interview. What airport should I land, and what hotel is advised?

Congrats on II everyone! I was wondering what everyone was doing for transportation in Detroit. Is Uber reliable there?

Uber is super reliable in Detroit! Just be sure to stay in a safe neighborhood.

Is there any Non-trad who goes here willing to speak with me about the school and living arrangements. Thank you.

Does anyone know how the admissions here deals with "holds"? I have been been complete since 7/22 and my status is still "Med School in for Review (MR)" ...wondering if I am just on hold but the portal just doesn't reflect this status

i'm later for completion but i've also been in review for a while.

Same here, been complete since 07/20. I'm not expecting much to happen since my stats are a little low, just depends on how they view my ECs I guess

For those of you with low stats, I wouldn't worry much since admissions just switched over to a holistic review process. I've been getting lots of questions and I do have an exam coming up as well, so I'll try to get to all your questions as soon as possible! Unfortunately, I don't know much about the MMI process here at WSUSOM. Good luck with all your interviews!

I'll try to get an admissions ambassador who was a non-traditional applicant to get in contact with you as soon as possible.

Your file is still under review then and I wouldn't view it as a hold necessarily. I have friends that interviewed in September and were subsequently waitlisted, others who interviewed in February and were accepted right away! Until you receive an active hold, I wouldn't worry much! Even then.

The MMI's do not have any acting, just standardized questions that are asked. If you have MMI's at other schools with acting, I wouldn't worry much about it as well.

Yeah, some of the Canadian schools here do "Acting" prompts. Which is so awkward

I thought the acting at another school was kind of fun, idk why you guys are so afraid of it

for folks who've already gone on the interview, how long was the faculty 1-on-1 in reality? i know they say 30 minutes, but on the sdn feedback, most people said it was over 60 minutes?!

Strict 45 minute cutoff. The usher started knocking and came in at 45.

wow that sounds like a long interview lol. was it conversational or pretty q and a?
It was a pretty relaxed interview. Honestly it went by quickly and we shot the **** about medicine and stuff. In fact we were engaged in convo to the last possible minute walking out of the door.

sounds like the best kind of interview lol. congrats- it sounds like it went well!

We will find out october 15ish. I would love to go to Wayne. Wayne is pretty amazing. Maybe I can get some street cred for living in detroit!

That answer would be ideal for "why wayne state?": for the street cred!

What was the order of things on interview day? What time was lunch/the MMI/the 1-on-1 interview/the tour? I promise I am not that neurotic I just am always hungry so I want to figure out what snacks I need and when to eat them 😛

Also, I am confused why I have to check in almost 2 hours early hah...

Depends if you have the morning or afternoon interview. And the Mmi/1-1 order is random I think

Hi everyone! Did you guys get a confirmation email for payment of your secondary? If so, can you please let me know what email address it came from? I don't think I ever got one. Thanks!
