Anyone that’s interviewed here recently would like to share their experience? 🙂

For all the girls interviewing I would like to warn you, there is a walking tour of the campus (about a 7 minute walk from the med school building to FIU's Green Library and their Graham Center), and there is a chance you will go on this tour before your interview (they split the candidates into two groups, one group interviews immediately after lunch, the other group has their tour and financial aid session then interviews). They give you the opportunity to switch shoes so I recommend taking flats. They also say you can leave your jacket so I recommend wearing a shirt under that you would feel comfortable wearing with out your jacket.

Regarding the interviews- it really depends who you get. It's two 30 minute interviews with faculty or M4's. I heard everyone got very different questions. My first interviewer was very structured and had questions on her laptop and was taking notes, my second didn't seem as structured...

Received II last week, complete 09/05. So excited for this school!:soexcited: Anyone willing to share what drew them to attend FIU? Also any interview tips would be appreciated

congrats! Wishing you the best. What were your stats?

Can't believe I'm visiting this thread from the other side. Good luck to everybody applying! Maybe I'll get to meet some of you during interviews

Did anyone who sent a post- interview thank you, get a confirmation that it was received?

Anyone else been "secondary application completed" for more than a month? How long should I expect to stay at this status?

I've had this for 3 months :dead:

I'm a re-applicant here and last year I had it the whole cycle. I was hoping that applying early this year would be different but I guess not :/

What are your stats?

My stats aren't amazing or anything so I'm not surprised it's been silent for me. LM ~63, URM, & OOS

I'm 63 LizzyM also, but IS and not URM. Good luck to you! Hopefully both of our statuses will change soon! 🙂

73 LizzyM, IS and not URM, here and silence as well

Similar stats, and I also got an early 'prelim review completed' status which seemed to be a good sign from last year's thread. FL school threads in general have seemed kinda quiet on here though, so hopefully we see more IIs dished out soon!

I hope so, I've only had one II so far and it's starting to make me a little nervous.

Hey guys,

I usually just stalk SDN threads and never post. BUT, I recently interviewed at HWCOM and felt like I should share.

I LOVED it, I hope they love me as much as I loved them. If you guys have any specific questions I'd be happy to share. I know the waiting process is painful. I'm still waiting to hear back from other FL schools *fingers crossed*

I second what Reesesbuttercup said. I interviewed there yesterday and really really enjoyed it. Everyone there is extremely kind and want each other to succeed. They are very committed to giving back to the south Florida community especially to those that are less fortunate. I would love to go here and to those that are still waiting for a II the process has just started so don't give up hope.

Thanks for the feedback I think we can all agree we appreciate any tidbit of info we can get! Any advice regarding interview questions? e.g. topics, curve-balls, etc. Thanks again!!

Hi! It appeared as though each interviewer had their own set of questions, so it really depends who you get. I had one interviewer who was very structured and appeared to have their questions set up and was typing my responses, the other was less structured and seemed to be asking some random questions and jotting down a few notes. I think the overall goal is for them to be conversational- to get to know you- and flow based on your responses.

If I submitted like 7/02 and my status is secondary app completed is it safe to say it'll stay that way the entire cycle 🙁?

Hi! Wanting to apply to FIUHWCOM in 2 years (taking a year off) but I'm an Out-of-state student. Anyone an OOS that got accepted? This school is definitely one of my top choices! 🙂 Congrats to everyone accepted and good luck to anyone that hasn't heard back or is wait-listed!

A couple OOSers have gotten IIs but you'd probably get a better idea of the odds if you look through last year's (2016-17) application thread

I think the MSAR Data is the best information you will get on this topic. According to the MSAR data they had 2,369 OOS applicants and interviewed 108 of those 21 matriculated compared to 2,414 instate applicants of which they interviewed 442 and matriculated 105.

Thanks, I have a MSAR account and was looking through it earlier this semester. It's very helpful 🙂

To be honest with you, chances are slim as an OOS applicant (as you can see based on the MSAR data). FIU is one of those schools that is really mission-focused on helping out their own community and creating physicians who will stay in this area, hence the IS bias. Not saying it's impossible, but definitely hard. Good luck!

I'm OOS with no ties to FL and was accepted 10/17 and it's my only acceptance! N of 1 though...
