2017-2018 Stanford University

I put together an Interview Invite tracker to gather II data in regards to distribution over time at the aggregate and school level in addition to MCAT/GPA averages for those who got an II. Unfortunately being at the mercy of the internet has its disadvantages .

You need to add secondary completion date as one of the metrics for the tracker, as that has a huge impact on II receival at most schools. Top notch work otherwise.

Hahaha oh crap, I was about to ask you if someone was trolling... Thanks for setting this up btw, its very well done

Hey guys, so I'm applying for the Knight-Hennessy Scholarship, and I got a formal nomination for the scholarship from my university, and I basically have to follow their timeline in order to submit the best application I can. So I'm basically planning on submitting the KH scholarship mid-September, which means I can't submit my Stanford secondary until after that. Do you think that'll really diminish my chances at this school?

Did Stanford already send you a secondary? Because if so, you'd better email them an explanation if you're planning on answering their supplemental invite in 3 months.

I emailed the admissions department and they said that we would be at no disadvantage.

I can vouch. This is what they told me, too. It's still concerning when you get the whole "we haven't received your supplemental, yet" from the adcom.

Yeah that is weird, especially since the expressed due date isn't for a long time. When did you receive the secondary?

Edit: can someone clarify how the KH deadline works for MD applicants?

I received the secondary application on July 8, after which I promptly contacted MD admissions and asked them to verify if I should send my supplemental after I submit my KH application. They verified that I should. Did you get the email about the supplemental not having been received this morning? It was unsettling. It said, "According to our records, you have not yet submitted your Supplemental Application to Stanford Medicine. If you intend to submit the application, we request that you do so on or before the final deadline of October 20, 2017.

If you intend to withdraw your application, please complete this process online as soon as possible."

I'm not gonna sweat it, though. They know that I've contacted them about the KH scholarship. The fact is that, according to what I read somewhere, apparently they review your application is sent to the front of the queue if you have a KH scholarship PIN. So, for those applying for KH, rest easy, you won't be penalized for your semi-late application.

Is the KH application part of the Stanford secondary? I'm waiting for my primary to be verified, so totally clueless about what lies ahead. I thought these were 2 separate processes.

They are separate and KH is completely optional. If you are not interested in KH, then it will not impact your MD application.

To add to this, practice careful self-selection for the program. The application for KH is very involved and you can't submit your secondary until the KH application is in.

Yes, I plan to apply to the KH program, but I am not sure how the process unfolds for MD applicants. I couldn't find any information on the website indicating that secondaries are not to be turned in until the KH application is ready.

You can do the KH application before you receive your secondary. I'd start on it now if you are interested in it.

But not the other way around? I.e. you can't submit your secondaries prior to your KH application? Can you elaborate a bit more on how the timeline works or why/how they're conjoined?

There is a portion of the secondary that explicitly states that you should complete your KHSP application prior to submitting your Stanford Medicine secondary. They ask for your KHSP application confirmation code.

I called and asked. You CAN submit your secondaries before your KH application but it is really NOT recommended. The reason for this is that there is a place on the secondary app to put your KH PIN which (see above) will move your secondary to the front of the line. The reasoning here is that, if you aren't going to get an interview for the MD program, you can't even be in the KH program.

Great, now everyone will be applying just because they think it will get their application seen faster...

I doubt it. Those that would apply for KH just to get their secondary at the front of the line have already submitted their secondaries.

Plus that would be very unwise. That application is a monster. Duke x 10.

I've just received an email from Stanford urging me to submit the secondary. But I am waiting for a research award that is kinda prestigious. Is there any problem if I submit late after receiving this email?

Just submitted the secondary. Fingers crossed. No immediate, automated email confirmation by the way; the portal does show my application is complete, however.

Also, I did not receive the "warning" email today that everyone seems to be talking about. I received the invitation for a secondary on June 18th (2 weeks ago today). Just wondering if they only send out warnings to people they "want" to apply. Or maybe my neurotic side is getting to me haha.

Nah, you don't need to worry. Stanford is reliably unreliable when it comes to mass communication. They didn't even get secondary invite emails to everyone. It could be that they just sent emails to those who have reached out to them (like me), or they have a monkey throwing darts at a dartboard to decide which emails to send a notice to, or any number of reasons. I wouldn't jump to assuming that they didn't want you to apply.

When does Stanford generally send out II's?

From just skimming the threads in previous years, I believe IIs were starting to come out around this time

The interview tracker is showing some entries for Stanford. Seems to be mostly high stat URMs right now.

Someone is for sure trolling the tracker. Median number of responses per school is around 3 right now and Stanford, with 9 responses, is in the 80th percentile of response rate. Being that high and having none reported here is a red flag.

Troll karma is a thing, I hope

Same thing is happening for other top school like Harvard. We're just trying to get data people, y u do tis? 🙁

Just received an II 5:21 PM EST by email today! I absolutely can't believe this, Yale and Pritzker earlier this week as well. It's been an incredibly humbling experience so far, and I can't wait to meet all of you! HYPSM, LizzyM > 80, 20+ pubs

Congratulations! I also received an II at 2:21 PM PST. Did the calendar happen to work for you? It doesn't show any available dates for me

I also received an II, can't wait to meet both of you! Can any current MS's pitch in on the best way to arrive to Palo Alto? Good luck everyone!

Wow! Its such a weird coincidence that the three of you got interviews at Stanford and then immediately made an account on SDN to post about it in the Stanford section!!!!! Congratulations!

Lol cmon guys, I saw through this post the moment I read it.

Please do not post false information regarding the application process in the SSD forum.

First offenders will be warned for trolling. Second offenses will result in probation or an immediate ban depending on the users posting history.

It's very difficult for us or anyone to confirm all of the anecdotal information shared on SSD threads. Please use your common sense (20+ pubs???) and exercise caution. If 10 other users with significant posting history are getting invites then you can probably believe it. If you believe someone is trolling, please report them and cite evidence as to why you think this is the case.

I mean 20 pubs is believable if OP was really non-trad (30+yrs old) with hyper-research focus. Maybe a PhD or clinical research position. But yes, obviously all signs point to BS here.
