2017-2018 University of Cincinnati

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Has anyone been rejected pre-II yet? IS, complete since 7/17. Still silence.

So I just spoke with admissions, who were incredibly kind and prompt in their response. The portal will not update in real time if we are declined for an interview invite. Applicants are notified in October, early December, and finally in January. So we would be updated about every 4-6 weeks.

Acceptance phone call earlier today!! Proud to have been chosen by such an outstanding medical school.
Anything you ran into out of the ordinary at the interview? I will be driving in the day of, so I just wanted to be as prepared as possible! Any thoughts are appreciated.

Anyone not prepare at all for the MMI and still get accepted? Asking for a friend who is interviewing here soon 😉

Honeslty, I was most surprised by how natural and conversational the MMI's were. The interviewers were interactive, and I would definitely recommend making your interviews more of a conversation than a monologue. You can't really prepare for what you will talk about - just be yourself and respond with what comes most naturally to you.
Compared to other schools, the interview day was very structured and promotional. No surprises in the schedule - the day followed the itinerary to the minute, and the adcom will give you a good idea of what to expect in the interviews. They also spent a lot of time selling the school to our group, having multiple presentations about the programs/curriculum of the school and the city of Cincinnati.
Enjoy your day there, and congrats on the interview!

I prepared but like the person above me said,it was surprisingly conversational. Before the MMI they do a brief presentation on exactly what they’re looking for when you interview, too

I didn't prepare either, but we'll see about the acceptance part (hopefully) soon XD

But also, don't feel pressured to prepare too much or talk for a long time, because they ask you tons and tons of (scripted) follow up questions to keep the conversation going. I was worried that I'd run out of things to say and that we'd sit in awkward silence for 4 minutes but that just didn't happen at all.

Is there any possibility to be accepted off the waitlist before the spring? The portal says acceptances are offered on a rolling basis throughout the year and that they will continue to review your credentials for consideration, but during the interview, I got the impression that they don't start looking at the waitlist until May. Also wondering for the purpose of sending updates if its worth it to do it regularly starting now or to wait until its closer to the spring.

From what I could tell during the interview, waitlisted applicants are not re-evaluated until the Spring. (Disclaimer: I may be mixing up schools, but I am pretty sure this is the case)

Edit: I feel like what I said was incorrect, need to look into it more. But yes I do think you're right that waitlisted candidates won't hear until spring.

Ok thanks, If you find out any details about the waitlist process, I’d appreciate to hear!

I sent a short email to the admissions office asking them to extend thanks to all those involved in the interview day. I asked the same question to my student host and he recommended doing it because he said the admissions committee puts in a lot of work to put on the interview day and would appreciate the kind sentiment, even if it may not impact admission.
Thank you!

I was complete 10/19... really wasn't expecting to hear back so soon
I was also complete pretty late. Your post gives me hope, but if you're a super strong applicant then maybe I shouldn't be... do you mind sharing what your stats/app was like?

Just rejected ... interviewed 10/5. Really bummed that I have to wait until the cycle is over before I can ask them for feedback :/

Not really super strong tbh, average EC's and LM 67-70. Don't give up hope tho, there's always a chance!

Can any OOS University of Cincinnati student message me? I have some questions about financial aid.

Not an OOS student but at the interview day they said you can apply for Ohio residency after your first year to get IS tuition for M2-M4. If that helps.

For current students - is Cinci strict P/F in pre-clinical years? I know they do internal ranking into quartiles but do residency programs see it or do they just see whether you passed or failed?

Residency programs see your ranking. It's reported as a quartile, and not an exact number.

Does anyone have an idea of when the next wave of decisions will come?

Since there was nothing yesterday, I'm guessing next thursday?
