I'm glad this got resolved before I checked, or else I would have been pretty crushed haha

Howdy, does anyone know if the U accept updates? I just got a new job that I didn't put on my apps since it was up in the air when I was filling them out.

In previous years they have not, since it is before interview season and such you can always bring it up in interviews. I also had a hard copy of my CV/resume when I was interviewing in case they wanted it or were open to it (tbh idk if this is kosher anymore, it is for residency interviews so I would imagine it is?)

Just got an II this morning! This one is real I'm pretty sure

II today from the U! My number one choice!!

what does ORM stand for?
I've seen other people use it on the forums, I've always assumed it meant "overrepresented in medicine" as opposed to underrepresented (URM). I could be wrong though

I've always read it as "over represented minority" vs. under represented. But now I'm curious to know for sure too!

II maybe? I got the email about the online interview and set up an account but no other email. Did anyone else get just the Kira Talent email? My application portal has not changed either.

Yes, I received the same thing. I really hope it isn't a glitch or something.

EDIT: Just received the II email. So excited!

Question for you all:

I lived in Utah until I was like ~5 years old (Wasn't born in Utah) and then moved to another state. However, my father attained his Master's at University of Utah. Does that count as significant ties to the school? Is it worth applying to as an OOS?

I'd send admissions an email, they are super helpful.

One thing to note is if you can apply for a Utah resident spot you'll still get hammered with their exorbitant OOS tuition. I think that shocked a few folks last year.

So I am looking for some clarification. Directly on the secondary application it stated that they RECOMMEND one Academic letter and one mentor letter. They also stated that they require only 3, but will accept 4 letters. So I followed these guidelines to submit four letters. Then I later received an email from the admissions office (it looked like an email they sent to every applicant) that thanked me for submitting my AMCAS and stated their letter of rec REQUIREMENTS. This email stated that they required 2 academic (1 science professor, 1 professor) and 2 supervisor (1 community service/patient exposure, 1 research/other supervisor). The letters that I submitted fulfill the guidelines that were explicitly stated on the secondary application, but only fulfill 3 of the four letters that the email said are "required."

Did anyone else notice this? I would rather not be ineligible to attend because of a discrepancy between the application and some other set of requirements that they have. Thanks!

I think you received that email in error. I have my interview next week and I never got an email with conflicting letter requirements.

got an ii this afternoon...I didn't realize they were using the standard video interview in lieu of the traditional 30min interviews? Not sure how to feel about this...

Hey congrats! When were you complete?

hey thanks! I was complete Aug 17th. I watched Dr. Chan's video explaining why they're deciding to do the video interview instead of traditional interviews and it makes sense.

Recently interviewed here. Utah is a great school. The staff and students were really helpful and friendly, answered all of our questions, and overall was a really laid back day. I am hoping I get accepted! :xf:

Hope to get some love here. OOS, LM 67, no real ties except for going there the past 7 years for vacation and was going to move there for my gap year but couldnt find a job. I know their OOS love isnt the best but I really like the location and program.

Just received an II. Anyone hear of acceptance statistics since interviews have started? At some of the other schools I've interviewed at, they've had pretty high acceptance rates early on. Is it the same here for anyone who has already interviewed?

When I interviewed last year they told us 25%. I wound up waitlisted and now I'm here.

Same boat. Last year I interviewed in December, and didn't hear anything until March 15th. It seems like they accept 25% before March 1st, and then the rest hear between the 1st and 15th. Most of my friends who were rejected also didn't hear until that time period

For clarification, they said they accept 25% of their class before March 1st (not sure if they actually held to this) but they also said that 1 in 4 interviewees from each category (IS, OOS, Idaho) would be accepted.

II today. IS, complete about a month ago. Interviewed last year and got waitlisted, hopefully round two goes better.

II today! IS, LM 513. Similar situation to millerstone. Interviewed last year and was rejected. Here's to a better round two for all of us!

II earlier this morning! LizzyM 75 - complete 7/29 ish - IS

EDIT: See post below, I could be OOS, haha not sure what I'm even considered

Any BYU undergrads here, (or anybody that knows for that matter), that could clarify the IS/OOS consideration for BYU grads? Our Preprofessional office said that coming out of BYU actually gives you IS status even if you have residency somewhere else. However the video from Dr. Chan on this subject pretty clearly explains that 80 chairs are for Utah residents "As identified on their AAMCAS app" with 15 of the 30 reserved for OOS that graduated from a Utah university. I guess this has no bearing on my outcome right now, but just out of curiosity wondering if anybody could shed some light on this?

I would go off Dr. Chan's video. I feel like the reserved 15 spot rule is because of BYU being a private school.

7 in a row.... ha

Can anyone confirm that receiving an early interview does not increase the chance of acceptance here?

II today!! For real this time. haha
LM 72-74, OOS, complete in July

Has anyone here had their interview day yet? How high would you rate the stress level? There are a lot of hoops to jump through, from the timed video interview beforehand to the 8 MMIs, traditional interview, and the MEPE exam.. Is a day full of trick questions, or basic ethical situations?

For the sake of your sanity I really hope you didn't actually apply to 100 schools
edit: but to answer your question it sounds like they're very serious about NOT having rolling admissions, so that means you should have an equal shot no matter when you interview.

Did anyone apply to the MD/PhD program and heard back from Utah? Sitting in silence since 08/06/2017.

Yeah, I applied MD/PhD -- they called me a few weeks ago to ask if I had any questions, and told me that the committee doesn't start looking at applications until mid-October. They interview on one weekend in November, one in December, and one in January.

Ended up applying to 85 MD schools (TMDSAS and AMCAS) and filling out secondaries for all of them, it took me three months-- but after the first 20 the prompts, I had answers to almost all of the subsequent prompts on the rest of the applications.

Thanks for confirming! That's what I figured, it sounded like a semi-rolling admissions so I wasn't sure where the "semi-rolling" came into play.
