Does anyone know whether the U sends out any post-interview rejections before March?

At the interview they said you may be notified of a rejection before then. Not sure if they’ve done that at all yet though.

Yeah, I wrote about that video portion on my interview day survey. I think if they could change the format so you're not staring at yourself on the screen it would be a little less weird. The actual day is more intense but less awkward. Good luck, everyone!

any IIs recently? I am OOS but recently moved to Salt Lake to do full-time research here at the U. Was hoping this would help me score an OOS interview but nothing but silence since mid-August 🙁 Reeeeally want this one!

Maybe send them an email and let them know your situation/reiterate your strong interest?

I emailed them back in September about if I could be considered in-state and mentioned how Utah was a top choice for me, but that only led to them deferring me to graduate admissions to see if I could get in-state tuition if I get in as an OOS applicant (I can). I've wanted to contact them every day since about how much I want to stay here, but I don't know the limits of being over-eager/annoying them haha.

I just got my II offer yesterday so they are sending them out. My date is in Feb though so I assume 50-100 slots for II left. Might be for a waitlisted spit though IDK.

Interviewing here soon and I was hoping someone could speak more to the format of the MMIs. Is it like read a prompt and go into a room with an actor? Or read a prompt then go into a room with faculty and explain what you'd do in this hypothetical situation? Or more like speed dating? Thanks in advance! 🙂

The MMI experience here was really enjoyable! The people in the rooms are very nice, and they are just interested in getting to know you and have a cool conversation with you. They definitely aren't out to get you or grill you or anything like that. Also, Utah doesn't have any acting stations, it is all just scenarios and open ended questions. You get two minutes to read the prompt and think about what you're going to say, and then you go into the room and talk for 7 minutes. Then in the room you talk through the prompt, your thoughts on it, and ideas and everything and they will ask you questions and maybe challenge your position. It's not like you have to talk for 7 minutes straight, it's a back and forth conversation which is nice! I think MMI's are pretty fun and less stressful than traditional interviews. Good luck, you're going to do great! 🙂

Read a prompt and then go in and discuss the prompt. No actors.
Fun fact: I was getting over a cold, and spent a full half of one station in an all-out, red-face coughing spasm, after which my interviewer squirted three pumps of hand sanitizer onto his hands and thanked me for coming. good times. Admissions decision TBD.. :dead:

Any pre and/or post interview events or social gatherings for interviewees?

Hey all,
I have no II and no rejection from Utah, Liz m 76. It is stated on their FAQ they do not accept updates, however, they say nothing about letters of intent via email. It is one of my top choices, and I have a younger sibling in undergrad there. Would it be appropriate to reiterate strong ties and desire to go to their school, as well as something about their mission statement? Would not include previous semester GPA or anything that seems like an update.
Thanks

I think a LOI is the same as an update in this case. If you want to send one in I'd recommend calling admissions and asking first. They are incredibly helpful and could point you in the right direction, worst thing they can say is "no."

How long was the video interview? Trying to fit the interview into my hectic holiday schedule :/

For anyone wondering, I did call and they said that they do not accept LOI either, because nothing sent to them goes on file for the reviewers so it does not matter.

Rejected Yesterday.... Complete early September, OOS. Good luck to everyone else out there!

Anyone else feel really iffy about how their interview went here?

My neurotic tendencies are getting the better of me right now.

YES totally! On one hand I think things went really great.. but there were a few iffy things here and there that are probably making me feel worse than I should

Exactly! I keep flip flopping. Some days I feel really good about my chances of getting an acceptance, but on others I feel like I totally blew it at my interview. I just don't know anymore. This whole process has made me question everything I knew about myself, lol.

Wow, has there really only been one acceptance here posted on SDN?

They seem to be accepting fewer students early on this year. I'm decently close with the school (work up there, know people on the admissions committee, know a bunch of the students) and the only people I know with an acceptance are early decision applicants. I unfortunately went through this process last year and followed the SDN thread religiously. Wound up wait listed, eventually rejected.

I know someone who was accepted in December. But other than that, no one else.

This is also my second time going through this with Utah. However, I never received an interview last year as an IS applicant. Hopefully when March comes, we will hear some good news.

Got the call from Dr. Chan this morning. IS Interviewed in mid-December. Good luck to everyone!

Congratulations! They must have really liked you.

Well, I can easily say that I'm a lower tier applicant on their list since I haven't heard anything since my interview in September. I know most are accepted in March, but I'm becoming increasingly worried at this point.

I'm in the same boat... interviewed in September... still waiting. Is it really true that they wait until March to tell 75% of those accepted? Also becoming increasingly nervous 🙁

Yeah I believe so. I remember them telling us that at the interview. Sucks to be honest. The only school I interviewed at early, and I won't get to benefit from it.

I like to think that if they interviewed us early they liked us. Maybe not enough to get into that 25% pre-March acceptance group but they saw something. Keep your chin up! Nothing we can do now but be positive and wait it out.
