2017-2018 University of Vermont

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks to everyone who asked me to reconsider if the Caribbean was where I really wanted to be. When I interviewed here, I felt the same "I've found my people," as I did the first day of class freshman year. Vermont felt like a home I didn't know I had. It was freaky to get a gut feeling that strong. This is really where I'm that desperate to be. I've stopped looking at the other school where I'm wait listed. Did anyone else get the love at first sight impression here?

Are other people bringing their parents for closer look day? Do you know what parts of the day they're invited to? I signed us all up for the financial aid webinar and there's a panel that families are invited to but I wasn't sure if they should come for other parts.

I finally bit the bullet and emailed. They said all decisions will be sent out by the end of April. Two more weeks of winter.
Thanks. Do you think they're lumping all remaining applicants together and will send one big wave of decisions on April 29th or maybe they're still doing it by interview date?

Unfortunately according to last year’s thread, everyone was lumped together and received decisions on the 27th and 28th. Most were WL, but I saw one acceptance lol.

Last year they didn't reject people tho so who knows what it'll be now!

Does anyone know if they have released the 2018-2019 final tuition yet? All I can find is 2017-2018

I interviewed on 02/09 and just learned via email I'm on the waitlist. I was hoping for an outright acceptance, but more waiting ahead is the order of this interview season.

Or 1/27? Do you guys think it means anything at all abuot my decision that I and other 1/27ers havent heard back yet?

Yea thats strange idk why they would wait for so long I assume they would lump some groups together instead of having multiple adcom meetings but who knows

Anybody know how the waitlist works here? They mentioned in the email that it's unranked, which I don't really understand...

I think there's an IS and OOS but other than that I have no idea. I assume with unranked it means people are reviewed each time an acceptance opens up and its not automatically going down a list

In case anyone is interested, I just emailed them asking for a decisions timeline/when I should expect to hear back and they replied fairly quickly saying all applicants will hear back by the end of the month.

What day do you guys think we'll hear for those of us still waiting post-II? Anyone know what day the adcom meets?

I assume we have to hear sometime this week unless they wait until next Monday on the 30th.

Can we hear back on the weekend? If not, my money is on Friday.

Does anyone know what percentage of rotations during the clerkship years can be done at UVM medical center? I really don’t want to relocate and want to stay in Burlington as much as possible. And if you do have to do away rotations, is it on you to find housing?

You can do everything in VT, but some stuff is far enough away that you won’t be sleeping in b-town those nights.

Hey guys I am really confused and am hoping if some people can guide me in the right direction. I am looking to get an apartment but I have NO IDEA how the clerkships will work and how the sites will work.

I know the first 18 months will be in Burlington, fine. But after that, if I choose the Vermont campus, will I have to move around? I saw that some of the clinical sites are very far from UVM (2 hours+ drive), and I need to know if I can keep my apartment for all 4 years. Can all rotations be done at UVM medical center? If I get moved around, what do I do about housing?

Ahhh im so confused and need some help please.

THANKS GUYS

I heard at second look day that if it’s over an hour from Burlington they will provide housing. Pretty much everyone does away rotations (Florida, Connecticut, throughout Vermont). They told us 95% will go away at some point unless you have kids, or other circumstances. But pretty sure everyone still gets housing in Burlington and just goes to those sites for specific rotations (4 weeks or however long rotation is). Hope that’s helpful!

So when are waitlisters going to get notified?... I thought May 1st was a deadline for students to finalize their school decisions.

I did hear a rumor that they overenrolled by 40.... so chances seem slim this year?

Could I ask where did you hear this from? Also by overenrolled 40, you mean 40 above the class size?

Heard it from someone who knows someone who works there and also applied. Obviously not the most reliable source (and hoping that it’s false) but I think they contacted admissions

I just wish they would start rejecting people if this is truly the case! :|

lets hang in there, i know more than anyone how hard it is to wait since I only have 1 WL, but its not over until its over.

if you want to talk, shoot me a dm

I know of a handful who let their spots on April 30. Still if they are over enrolled they are gonna not use the WL much

Thank you for the information. I know I might be jumping the gun, but it does give me a bit more hope

It's changing a bit, as you probably know, so my knowledge is limited in this area, but I can say that if you choose to do your rotations in VT, you end up doing a smattering of them here, and then a smattering at the various satellite campuses. Ultimately there's a lottery system with some options to submit preferences as to what rotations are done where and in what order, and they try to jazz up the lottery process and make it seem fun and like it's a right of passage, but ultimately it's kind of sucky from what I can gather.

Signing up for an LIC or for all rotations at the CT campus puts you in that location for the duration, but then you have to find your own housing, as opposed to doing UVM-compensated housing if you are sent somewhere to rotate. The only people who get to stay in VT 100% of the time are people who have children, which bothers me a bit, as the fact that I'm single without kids doesn't mean I like living a rootless existence, but then here we are.

For fourth year you can do elective aways or pick and choose various things, but it's less travel if you want it that way. You could keep your apartment for all four years (though I don't know why you'd need to know that now), but you may want to find somewhere that you could sublet occasionally for year 3.

Obviously not my best answer, but hopefully that helps.

AS FOR THE WAITLIST, my understanding is that it's not ranked, and that when someone declines an acceptance, they take someone from the waitlist who would best replace that person--that is, whose characteristics, academic background, etc. seem to match those of the person who dropped. This is how other unranked waitlists tend to go, and while I don't have direct knowledge of the UVM waitlist, this is my general impression.

Hello fellow waitlisters! I just had a total panic moment because I was looking at the online portal and realized there was a box I needed to check in order to accept my place on the waitlist! I would do that now if you haven't already! I don't how long its been there, but there was no mention of it in the waitlist email, so I didn't think to check previously. Cheers!

I noticed that too, and did it like a month ago ended up panicking cause I thought it would affect chances, but after some thinking I don't think it should have any consequence since there was no mention about it (?) What do you guys think?

Wow just realized I never did this!
