So the consensus on the best place to send pre II updates is to send them to Dr. Cook? Should we still address the letter “dear admissions committee”?

Applications are scored on the merits as they stand at the time of submission. If clarifications are necessary, the Admissions Office may contact certain applicants. Based upon applications at the time of submission, applicants are invited to interview. Interviewees are extended the courtesy of providing updates.

Got it. Thank you for the reply!

If you’re on a Post Interview Hold, you’ve clearly been assigned a rank by the committee. Does an update with grades and publications actually help your standings in any way? From what I heard, the committee doesn’t review your application again after doing so the first time Post Interview. I’m just wondering whether or not updates are really taken into consideration.

At my interview they said updates will only be taken into consideration after you've been placed on the waitlist.

That's frustrating, medical schools are so different with their preferences, application scoring, etc.

To be clear, the Offer List (sometimes referred to as a Hold List) is separate from the Wait List, which is formulated only in April. The Offer List is comprised of interviewees that have acceptance-level Selection Committee scores. Significant updates are considered for those on the Offer List.

Significant Updates = 1. Grades; 2. Publications accepted; and 3. New job or volunteering experience where you have worked for at least 2 months.

So do those of us who are on hold post-interview have acceptance-level scores? Were the scores just not high enough to be granted offers on the last offer date (i.e. 12/16)?

Who would you ask to inquire about your application? I've had the same will review your application status since mid July

Yes.

Nobody. All active pre-interview applications are either in one of two places -- waiting to be file reviewed, or waiting to be offered an interview after file review. In either case, there is no other information to be transmitted.

@Dean Mission If we're stuck on the "very interested" status, do you know how much longer until we hear if we're are going to get an interview or not? Do you know the ratio of people on the "very interested" status to interview spots available?

Off the top of my head, I have no idea how many applicants have obtained a file review score consistent with a very interested status, but probably 40+ more people will get interview invites. And, that number does not take into account spots that will open up due to cancellations.

I sent a post-interview update (about new grades) on December 20th to [email protected] but I never heard anything (like a confirmation of some sort). How do I know if it was received/if that was the right email to send it to? Thanks!

That's the email, but the admissions office closed for the holidays on December 20th, so you probably won't get a reply until school resumes on January 3rd.

During our interview, Dr. Whitehurst-Cook said that at each specified date, they’ll be enough acceptances sent out to fill 25% of the class. By that logic, does that mean half the class still isn’t full and is expected to be filled at the last 2 dates by people on the hold list?

Yes

Do you happen to know, based on previous years, how people are left on the hold list after the last two acceptance days? Do they get transferred to the waitlist?
On or about April 1st, a Waiting List will be formulated from the Offer List. If invited, applicants will have to respond to be on the list. Those on the Waiting List will be in line to receive offers as they open. The Waiting List is not exceptionally large, and is only made up of applicants that have a score that is consistent with matriculation.

Does anyone else still have the "Your M.D. file is now complete. The Sub-Committee will now do a review of your application...." message on their portals? Complete early August.

I still have this status. Dean Mission actually responded to me regarding this with a message. He told me that my application had been reviewed in November and my application will proceed as it should.

I was not given any further information, but at least I know that my file was seen.

He also said that at this point, all applications have been reviewed regardless of the status that is on the portal.

I do! Still hoping for a last minute interview :/

If you don't mind responding, what are the stats of people who have gotten interviews or already have gotten an acceptance?

Apologies if this has been discussed before, but where can I submit an update to VCU (I have a new volunteer activity that I have been with for the past 1.5 months)? Thank you!

To quote Dean Mission on December 22 -

"Letters of interest are unnecessary, particularly before interview invites. VCU knows you are very interested by the very fact of your primary and secondary applications, which you paid money to submit."

"Before the formulation of a waitlist, letters are not necessary."

"Applications are scored on the merits as they stand at the time of submission. If clarifications are necessary, the Admissions Office may contact certain applicants. Based upon applications at the time of submission, applicants are invited to interview. Interviewees are extended the courtesy of providing updates."

EDIT: and this juicy morsel from 12/29

"To be clear, the Offer List (sometimes referred to as a Hold List) is separate from the Wait List, which is formulated only in April. The Offer List is comprised of interviewees that have acceptance-level Selection Committee scores. Significant updates are considered for those on the Offer List.

I would, however, like to know the definition of "very interested". Still waiting several months later....
