Is anyone else confused about the word/character limits? For example the small group essay SAYS the limit is 300-1000 characters, but then when you go to type it cuts you off at 142 words.
Maybe those 142 words are enough to hit 1000 characters?

There is very definitely still a research essay. It is optional (but highly recommended).

I wouldn't doubt this, but is that confirmed from someone who has received a secondary?
Also, forgive the dumb Q but are University program + CCLCM combined into one portal/secondary? And I imagine CCLCM's secondary = Case University + it's own prompts?

I received a secondary before writing that and I'm currently looking at the research question on their portal 🙂 It is optional but highly recommended.

Awesome thanks for confirming. Is the Case portal the same as the CCLCM portal?

It certainly appears to be, though I didn't pay a whole lot of attention to the CCLCM areas of the application, as I am not applying there.

Yeah, I too am having trouble with this.

For their greatest challenge essay, for example, I have 2,880 characters (including spaces) and 517 words. The prompt says stay below 3,500 characters, but the text box has a limit of 501 words. When I attempt to paste my response in from a text editor, it cuts off at 501 words.

Is this maybe a problem of applying to both CWRU and CCLCM? Since, as far as I can tell, the portal is the same with shared essays?

It is the same portal, but applying to to the CCLCM program adds in more essays so it puts you up to around 7 essays total with one additional optional one. You do only pay one application fee to apply to both programs though which is great!

Ah okay thanks - would you be so kind to post CCLCM essays either here or in the CCLCM thread? No one appears to have posted those yet.

For those of you concerned about the character/word limit issues, I emailed back and forth with admissions and they have it fixed now!

The character limits mentioned in the prompts are the ones to follow, the word limits in the text boxes were a technical issue. They shouldn't be a problem any more. For either CWRU or CCLCM. I guess they moved to new secondary app software this year and it was just a glitch.

They were all identical to last years' prompts, but without the comment that it's okay to go over. Character limits et cetera were all the same.

I guess they got a lot of responses last year that were way over the limit?

I sent in my primary first week of July to them (along with others), and they're the only ones who haven't got back to me. I guess it's relieving to see I'm not the one one still waiting...

Sorry, what's the character/word length for the "anything else" essay?

So I was able to gain access to the secondary portal by using the link from the dev in last years forum on Case and pretending I forgot my password, the email went through to my actual email associated with amcas and now I can log on like I had gotten it. Definitely didn't receive anything from case directly, I emailed the support link given in last years forum too and awaiting reply. Anyone here have any thoughts on what I should do. They say they send the secondary to everyone and Im everyone and apparently Im in the system, but I don't want to **** it up if were still supposed to be waiting, the secondary app shows a timeline that says it went live on July 9. Any thoughts are good thoughts lol
can you post the link to the secondary portal?

+1

Wait so does anyone know the word/character count for the additional information essay?

the forgot password thing worked for me when I used my AMCAS ID as the username

to all people that haven't received the secondary yet, based on the reply I got from their tech support, I'm 99% sure if you use the link from last year and hit forgot password you get access to the secondary and its ok to fill out, as long as you're verified you should be good to go.
I really appreciate you taking the time to post this. I'm a re-applicant and I've been waiting for a secondary but the password reset worked! You are a great person and I hope you get accepted to your top choice with a full-tuition scholarship 🙂.

Also just recieved the secondary, now submitted

Does the optional research essay not have a word limit for anyone else? How long have y'alls essays been for this prompt?

How many of you guys are doing the additional info essay? Why Case? Diversity? I'm not sure if I can muster the energy to do another essay at this point...
