2018-2019 Des Moines University (DMU)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I thought I was the only one who hasn't heard anything since the actual acceptance email lol. Good to know that I'm not.
I haven't heard anything since then either. I put in the initial portion of the deposit but haven't done anything else (i.e. haven't paid the rest of the deposit, done the background check, or gotten any immunization information, etc.). Is there anything else that should have been done by now?

Interviewing tomorrow morning!
Any last second advice would be very welcomed!

The interview day was really relaxed when I went. If you are stuck waiting for for interview for quite a while I did some research on my interviewers so I could ask better questions, but overall just be yourself!

Interviewed 11/1, accepted 11/29. IS, LM 66.

Are admissions decisions usually made on Wednesdays?

Im an accepted applicant from this cycle starting school at DMU this fall. I currently work as a CNA on a hospital floor and am BLS certified and have to opportunity to become ACLS certified. I was wondering if I should jump on this opportunity or wait until school. Does DMU have ACLS tied into their 2nd year curriculum at all? Is ACLS required before starting 3rd year rotations? Any advice is appreciated.

ACLS is incorporated into the curriculum and it’s required before you start 3rd year rotations. I would skip it and spend your time drinking a beer, watching Netflix, or any one of a million other options.

Just got put on the Alternate List. Interviewed 12/13. OOS.
The email says the class is currently filled and I’m guaranteed an acceptance if seats open up. Does anyone have any insight on this?

Have the same email essentially. Not exactly sure but i think it means we're in the top quartile of the waitlist

I figured the class had to be pretty close to being full. I’m interviewing today so I can try and find out how much movement there is on the waitlist.

Pure conjecture here but I'd say DMU has a lot of WL movement considering that a lot of accepted students are borderline MD applicants. After all DMU does have higher matriculating GPA/MCAT averages than a good amount of MD schools. Food for thought :corny:

I’d like to think so too! Good positive energy this morning!

Which MD schools have lower matriculant GPA/MCAT averages than DMU?

I think there's a decent amount of state schools and a few private schools. Of the private schools, I applied to, I think Rosalind Franklin and Cooper Medical had lower LM scores than DMU. I would have to double check MSAR for the MD's, but DMU has relatively high acceptance statistics for a DO program.

I interviewed yesterday and they said they are still in full on acceptance mode for the next few weeks. After that, interviews will mostly be for waitlist positions.

I’ll be interviewing here soon, any tips from current students / those who interviewed already?

Does anyone know if there is an accepted students day? I know a few schools do this but I can’t find info on if DMU does.

Does anyone have the accepted students facebook link that they could maybe PM me?

I interviewed here last week, felt like my interview was the worst of my season! Have any other recently accepted students had the same experience? Everyone (including lots of current students) told me they felt they failed their interviews as well but I just can't shake it! Dang lol. Positive vibes though! Looks like January interviews are getting quick feedback!

anyone who interviewed already can give me some insight to how the tour is like, and what the weather is like? it's been a while since i've been in freezing temperatures and i've never needed to wear formal clothes in this kind of weather either. i'm a guy so a suit is obvious, but what shoes did you wear? did you wear long underwear to stay warm or was it pretty warm inside the building?

I didn't have this experience at DMU necessarily, but I have at other schools. There was one school that I was positive I would get rejected from but I managed to get in. I know this probably sounds redundant and overly optimistic, but trust me when I tell you that how good you feel about an interview does not mean much. There was another school where I felt that I did great during my interview only to get rejected. Keep your head high and hope for the best until you hear otherwise!

The interview day will be a couple of hours of presentations, a talk from admissions/the dean, an OMM demo and tour of campus. Coffee and breakfast bars in the morning and lunch provided. During the tour you're free to ask your ambassador whatever questions you want. Then you'll do the interview and the day is done.

As far as weather goes, it's pretty dang cold and snowy right now. The buildings are very comfortable temp wise and you'll be taking the tunnels most likely so should only need to be outside to/from the parking lot if you drive. It'll be cold with just a suit, but admissions will have somewhere to keep your coat if you have like a peacoat or whatever professional people wear. Wear dress shoes. Thermal long john-type stuff would probably be very uncomfortable after the first couple of minutes inside, but that's just my opinion!
