This. In the grand scheme of things, med school is a stepping stone to get the residency position you want and the specialty youre passionate about. Yes its important to be happy during med school, but its also important to be happy during residency and as an attending. Im glad you shared this because it put into perspective the important things about med school.SOOO i thought that this is something i should share with you guys!
I just came back from having a drink with my old friend that ive known for 12 years, and 2 of his medical school buddies. The purpose of that meeting was for them to help me decide what school to choose from. I will not list here the 5 schools that i presented to them (if you want details please message me), but i will speak to what they said about Drexel. Keep in mind, these guys are 15-16 years into their medical careers. One is ER doc in one of DC hospitals, one is neurology-radiology (not sure if i heard him right), one is pediatric endocrinology. These guys went to one of top 10 schools (wont mention which one), and are currently VERY successful in their fields (basically, have them to myself for a little bit felt like CHRISTMAS).
So, i was SURPRISED, but when presented with the five options, they told me that DREXEL is definitely the way to do. I asked them to elaborate. I told them the common complaints - "facilities run down", and other comments that were listed. They really just laughed in my face. They said that that actually is not really important. Then they asked me what is it that I wanted to do, - i told them it is DEFINITELY not primary care. So they said that if i want to be a specialist, from my list Drexel is definitely the way to go. Because it will give me the most diverse exposure in various specialties, because they said that Drexel reputation is SOLID, and because they said that Drexel has incredible research opportunities in very specialized fields, which is very much preferred for competitive specialties. They also added that Philadelphia is an incredible place to be, and if you are a go-getter, you can have the best medical career you could wish for, because you can secure away rotations in amazing hospitals. Not even mentioning that there is A LOT to do there, and it is a huge cultural center.
I know that everyone will ultimately make the decision they feel like is best for them. That being said, me hearing what they had to say, - probably the most successful 3 doctors i know, - REALLY changed my mind. Drexel is DEFINITELY on top of my priority list right now, and i am PROUD to be accepted there.
Thank you ! Yes , it definitely changed the way I look at things . I am definitely going to go to the second look , to scope things out , and I do wanna wait till financial packages come to make any final decisions , but all things equal , I think I’ve made up my mind . The most important thing for me is to make sure that the school will get me to the point I want to be at . To get me to the residencies I want.This. Oh yes , I looked into the match for Drexel several years deep - it is ridiculously impressiveDrexel absolutely does have a solid reputation. We wouldn’t match so well every year in even top specialties/programs if we were truly the caribbean of the US like SDN sometimes portrays it to be.
Why is that? DUCOM has a lot of graduates all across the country. You’re gonna run into graduates in most hospitals across the country so it is easier to network and get your foot in the door.
I can't remember exactly because I am unable to see it anymore after I scheduled mine but I believe Mid-april maybe around the 15th-20th was the last one.do you know when the last April date shown was?

Hahaha !!! Nice !!!! See ? You can go to Drexel and become a celebrity !!!As a fun litte aside, Dr Pimple Popper got her own tv show and went to Drexel

And to add on top of this, I have a friend who is a PD for a competitive program at an ivy school and he said drexel is a great school and he loves the applicants from there. And asked the PD of the program where I work (again, a competitive field) and he had only good things to say about them.SOOO i thought that this is something i should share with you guys!

so are we thinking friday was the only acceptances that are going out this week?
It’s match week. We’re told as students that the admissions office is closed, so you may not hear anything at all because of that.
Yea I would lean towards thinking we will be hearing back this week cause of the portal updates. All my sphincters will be clenched today while I constantly refresh my email, at leastthey specifically just added another week for decision week saying March 11th, that's why I was wondering if any more decisions were coming out this week. confused as to why they would say march 11th and then only give decisions the friday before

the only time they've sent out acceptances on friday(the first round of decisions), they also sent them the following week. so I am bracing for hopefully acceptances today or tomorrowdo we think they are done with acceptances since they sent some out friday
The wait through 4 decisions weeks (interviewed in November) has been AWFULguess not... this is the worst
Can I ask you a personal question ? Could you PM me please ?Just withdrew my acceptance. Good luck everyone!
I know it has been asked but could a student or local explain to me what the neighborhood of the medical school is actually like in terms of safety and access to public transportation?
since early august lmaoAnyone else waiting in limbo? Not on hold, and not rejected.
They said they added a decision week this week, but the silence is making me question that..
I have to admit - I am definitely excited about meeting you ! I have been rooting for you for a while .Got the invite for Accepted Students Day. Can’t wait to meet some of you guys!! #letsgetfoodndrinks
Be brave !!! Do it !!!Does some kind soul wanna call in and see if they’re still giving decisions this week?
It’s not really an essay that you’d run out of time on. It’s like a Casper scenario. Super easy, I didn’t write a whole lot and got acceptedThis is my last interview! Should I be stressed about the essay? I am trying not to stress while stressing at the same time. I haven't done a timed essay since the ACT
