Anyone or any current students have info on second look? The portal has the dates but they said more info would be sent early February and i never got anything.

so when are they going to start pulling people from the deferred pool? also, seems like they aren't sending any rejections, just deferring. what does this mean for all of us?

They told us at our interview day that they do reject post-II without deferring, and that getting deferred tends to be a good thing. This thread may not be reflective of those rejections.

@ other accepted students, I tried clicking "confirm your acceptance" on vitals, but nothing happens. is this normal? (did I just send like 10 confirmations by accident when I spam clicked the link lol?)

Same thing happened with me when i got it lol. I also clicked it many times just to be safe.

Still haven't heard anything =(. I was really hoping to hear back by today.
Me either. Thanks for answering. I hope they let us know soon! It could be both of us, ya never know!

I got into the primary care track at the beginning of the month. Sorry. They might not have released all acceptances at once though! And I think there are four slots!

Thank you for sharing! I'm very happy for you! A little sad for myself lol. It's true that there are 4 slots. I might try to call tomorrow to check in about it.

+1
Congrats! I am debating at what point it is appropriate to contact them and inquire what is going on... Maybe it'll be all of us! I'm still hopeful

MSAR says interviews are 1 on 1. How many people do we interview with?
You will have two interviews, one with a faculty member and one with a med student or resident. Both are open file, excluding stats.

Good luck!

Does anyone know how often tests are/how many tests OSU has per block? i.e is it one test or more of a testing week like Case?

I dont remember exactly how often but pretty sure it was every few weeks. I remember when i interviewed in early September they were already taking an exam and since they start mid august ii doubt they had finished a block yet.

(Some of the M2's were waiting outside the exam with a bunch of pastries and coffee and other tasty looking stuff to give them on their way in/out haha)

Anybody gotten any recent IIs? Doesn’t seem like many have been reported here in the last 2ish weeks. Really hoping for some UG love.
I got one a couple weeks ago, there were a good amount of IS people at my interview day. They said they interview until late March and only give a few days notice before your interview day so there's still hope!

Here’s hoping that’s correct! Still waiting here with you guys. Best of luck to us all, to the end of the month 🙂

That was actually their first exam, hence the donuts/pastries! The first block you will have a quiz every week - but this is more to make sure you know what's expected of you in med school and to give you more chances to tweak your studying before the exam so you're not surprised by your result, and it's only like ~4 weeks long. Regular blocks are 8-10 weeks long, and all have an exam week where you have your anatomy practical, OSCE, and final exam. Some blocks have midterms (cardiopulm) but otherwise you'll get quizzes maybe every 3 weeks that cover important topics (we had one on viruses right before winter break), and TBLs that cover important clinical concepts that they want to emphasize (Antibiotics, STIs, etc).

My friend (she is IS) got a II a couple weeks back to fill in for someone who withdrew and she was next on the list - but she was told that if she couldn't accept and come on short notice, she would be reinvited in March. So I would assume that there are still IIs going out!

Thanks for your response!
So other than blocks when you have midterms, exams are every 8-10 weeks? Could you also elaborate on what an OSCE is?

Deferred last week and seeking some more info on how OSU's waitlist works. This was my only II so I'm worried I will have to reapply next year.

Does anyone know how many people they initially accept vs defer/WL? I keep hearing there's a lot of WL movement, but I'm skeptical. According to a spreadsheet I saw Ohio State has a 58% post II acceptance rate (accept 388 out of 670 interviewees). This seems reasonable given that they interview 25-30 people per week for 6 months and have a class size of almost 200 students. I've seen most adcoms here state that schools will initially accept 2-3x their class size. If this were the case, it would seem like OSU wouldn't have much WL movement at all. Anyone have any further insight?

I know this post sounds neurotic, but getting off the WL here is my only chance of matriculating this cycle.

Keep your head up! At least with OSU, deferred does not mean WL. They are still considering you for acceptance if you've been deferred, cause they still need to fill seats.

About WL movement, my student host mentioned that almost half the incoming class comes from the WL, so even if you are put on the WL, there is still a decent chance of matriculating here.

While there is definitely movement from initial deferral to acceptance at any time, and a significant portion of the class gets admitted after the initial deferral, I suspect that this has been ongoing for the past few months (dating back even to late October perhaps).
Being honest, I have to believe that there is increasingly less movement from deferred to admission status as the cycle proceeds. I would guess that at this point minimal movement happens until traffic heats up closer to May 1st. Per AMCAS rules, every school by now has had to extend admission offers enough to at least fill the class.

FWIW, last cycle, I interviewed in mid-February and was deferred....then dried out on the waitlist before ultimate rejection in summer. I reapplied this year, but so far radio silence without an interview. I have happily gotten into a few schools this cycle and will decline the II if it miraculously appears, lol

Has anyone been able to RSVP for second look weekend on vitals? There's supposed to be an evaluation to fill out to RSVP but nothing is showing up for me.

40% of the incoming class is taken off the waitlist. I interviewed early February and was accepted. They save atleast 12 acceptances per interview so everyone has an equal chance of acceptance regardless of when your interview is. At my interview date they said that if you are waitlisted, most movement occurs after April 30th, particularly the first couple weeks of May.

I feel that this may not be entirely accurate; my understanding is that after interview sessions, interviewees are given some overall score by the committee (incorporating various things....academic metrics, ECs, diversity, etc and interviews) then placed into the pile of previously scored and deferred applicants....from this newly formed pile, then some number (perhaps 12) are pulled for acceptance. This explains how someone might be deferred one week, to only be accepted a couple weeks later. This being the case, it certainly is better to get in the deferral pile earlier (October or November) rather than later (March).

We're still working on figuring out all the details (with match day coming up and everything), but second look will be a blast! I highly highly recommend everyone that gets an invite to come, even if you're 100% committed to OSU already. You get to meet your future classmates and peers and get to be recruited by your future med school. The current students will organize a "mixer" and you get put up in a hotel downtown and get a fancy dinner, usually at the Ohio Statehouse where Alum, Faculty, and current students will answer any questions you may have. I remember I straight up asked them where they would go (given my choices) and they guided me on how to evaluate my priorities and were frank with me as to the pros and cons. It was the best second look I attended too and it helped me make my final decision. Also you'll get tickets for the spring game so make sure you stick around for that! Go Bucks!

EDIT: Also, if you're invited and unable to come to second look for whatever reason, but still want more information/ a tour of campus/Columbus, reach out to admissions! Several students do 'informal' second looks!

This second look day sounds fantastic! Thanks for sharing. Do you know if waitlisted students will get the chance to attend as well?

I have another second look weekend conflicting with the OSU one. I really loved my day at OSU and it's in state for me so wouldn't be too hard to visit at another time. I also know I would come here if it's my cheapest option for sure but there's one other school that if it's a similar cost then it would be a tough choice between the two and of course they are the ones that have the same second look. Just because it's the farther school im thinking of going to that second look since it would be harder to check out housing and stuff there if i do end up choosing there. It's so conflicting though since I would hate to miss out on meeting potential classmates/finding roommates. Do you think it wouldn't be too hard to do that even if i don't come to the second look?

Our second look is two days, and a lot of people come a night earlier (Thursday night I think?) and we have a smaller mixer for them at a local bar/pizza place, so if you're worried about housing and meeting people, maybe see if you can arrange to come for a part of it before going to the other one, so you're not going into it completely blind? Otherwise people are usually active on the facebook group and you can pick roommates from the housing sheet on that. You'll have plenty of opportunities to meet classmates orientation week as well!

I didn’t want to like this school because it’s late in the cycle, but I had a great interview experience. Now I have to emotionally prepare for a deferral. Shoot.

Same thing happened to me 🙁 came in already kind of set on a diff school, but this one really impressed me. Super late interview and got deferred🙁

It’s great there is a lot of WL movement but it’s much harder emotionally. Instead of focusing 100% on the other acceptances we hold onto that sliver of hope that Georgia or Dr. Capers will give us a call all the way to orientation.

I'm marrying an Ohio resident soon. I believe I could qualify as a resident for tuition purposes due to C1 here: Lawriter - OAC - 3333-1-10 Ohio student residency for state subsidy and tuition surcharge purposes.

Is this worth bringing up to admissions now? Have not received an interview or a rejection, and wondering if becoming an Ohio resident in the next few months would make any difference in their selection process. Thank you!

as Beyonce says...put a ring on it...jk...but probably will not matter until you are actually married!

For purposes of update (and maybe giving hope to others), my wife got an interview this morning. She had her choice of March 18, 20, or 25th,

LizzyM 78-79, IS, OSU Undergrad, completed early August.

To say we've been anxious is an understatement!
Congrats! Could you tell me how they contacted her? I’m stressed they may just be going down the list and calling instead of emails lol

Interviews will go until the end of March. They usually send invites at least 1-2 weeks in advance, so I would assume this week will be the last round of invites. If you're IS though, there may be hope if someone cancels last minute.
Also this week may be a little slow in terms of IIs as admissions and other faculty may be helping students SOAP if they didn’t match. And of course match day on Friday. I’m assuming there may be some IIs going out this week for the following week or for last minute drops.
