Stupid question perhaps, but is anyone scared that they have to admit that they have 0 acceptances to stay on the Alt List? Would this make them more or less likely to accept me?

To me I don't think it has any factor. They are likely just grabbing data.

I'm actually glad they asked that, because I've heard that sometimes when considering equal candidates, schools might be more inclined to give an acceptance to someone who has not gotten in anywhere. I haven't been accepted anywhere and VCU is a school I'd really like to go to. So for other people in the same situation, perhaps it could be an advantage in that sense.

Perhaps. But that would be really foolish for the school to do. If I was the ADCOMs it probably is very useful to know what kind of students already got into another school or not. (Since this is indeed the first year that they already do not know that.)

As everyone else is saying we can only guess if it has any impact. I am surprised that they asked that question though- aren't all the changes in process this year meant to protect that information for us so that it can't bias an offer?
I’m pretty sure they asked last year too lol

Right! I'm just tryna see if I'm the only one 😛
Probably not.. I was there last year, and I don't recall them sending the below update until ~May.
Your file has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee. The overwhelming numbers of applications have made it simply impossible to interview all of the candidates who may be qualified to attend medical school. At this time, we are out of interview space and regret that we are unable to interview you.

The review of your file indicates that you have some fine qualities. While we are unable to interview you this year, we would suggest you consider reapplication if you are not accepted to another medical school. Reapplication should occur only after consideration and consultation of how to strengthen your profile.

We recognize and regret the disappointing nature of our decision and we wish you the best of luck in your future plans.

Hey guys! Does anyone know what the facebook page for accepted students is called? TIA!

Also, to anyone who was rejected or on the wait list, my fingers are crossed for you! I hope things work out for all of y'all. This can be such an emotionally tolling process - I just barely scraped by. I know all of you will end up where you're meant to be in the end! <3

Thanks for that! Kinda funny that I was accepted to all the other VA schools besides this one... Richmond is just so cool >.< Again good luck to all of you on the alt-list and congratulations to those accepted <3 🙂

Portal update just now to say they have confirmed my response to the alt list.

Side note, can anyone remind me what the adcoms said about the new rules and how schools this year no longer know who has acceptances where? I guess I didn't even know that that was information available to them in previous years. Thanks in advance

I read the email and my hands went numb as I started hyperventilate. Then came here before checking the portal.

PSA: Y’all can check the portal from an iPhone. Hold the refresh thing in the search bar when you’re on the login page and it’ll take you to the desktop site.

Lol lets hope so. That would help us 😛 but who knows

I definitely would like to know the size of the WL. It did seem like a fair amount of people got Rs, but who knows.

That and when will they start pulling people off the waitlist. Someone said 4/1 (based off MSAR I think?), but last years waitlist didn’t start moving until mid-April.

Yes, early vs. mid April makes a difference for my sanity.

I think they begin pulling from the WL on April 1 after everyone has had time to accept or decline their WL position.

Everything is weird and different this year because of the traffic rules. They formulated the waitlist 2 weeks early this year so maybe they’ll start accepting people earlier than in the past!

I wonder then if they made the waitlist that much bigger because of these new rules. At least that is what I would do because I would expect so much more waitlist movement.

I don’t think it requires making the waitlist bigger just making it sooner, there were lots of rejections on sdn.

You'd think that with the new rules, there would be more people on the WL but it seems like the opposite is happening. A lot of other schools are handing out more R's post II

The mizzou thread is the first to come to mind
I would take SDN data with a grain of salt. Perhaps there were more applicants overall this year, more interviews at these specific schools, or just more students posting Rs on SDN. No way to know from what we see here whether there are more or less waitlisted/rejected applicants. The only way to know more than mere speculation would be to call and ask for a specific school's info.

You could be right, but the fact that more sdn users got rejected in comparison to users in the last 5+ years is still concerning. I don't think the sdn user base has rapidly increased either so it does seem like a possible reason

Thank you for your response. I only asked to collect more information not to start another civil war. After all, we are all aware that the SDN is not pubmed.

New daily routine: *wake up, check email, check applicant portal, check sdn, eat, check email, check applicant portal, check sdn, walk dog, check email, check applicant portal, check sdn...*

:help:

I feel like I've been wasting a lot of my M0 youthful years on SDN, but I also need to be on here because I'm on a lot of waitlists and need to collect as much info as I can.

Also @Dean Mission how many were interviewed this year? MSAR data from 2017 shows ~110 IS out of ~2000 apps and ~340 OOS out of ~6000 apps.

Hats off to everyone who even got an interview. This school has a lot of harsh applicant cuts, and I think making past the secondary cut and then the interview cut will bode well for all of us vying for this school and others.

@Dean Mission Would you also be able to tell us how many people were invited to join the alternate/waitlist and historically how many people out of the invited end up accepting? To my understanding, it seems as if this year there will be a lot of changes in regards to waitlist movement.

The answers to your questions would be awesome to calculate ourselves into comfort but:

1) They won't know how many people are on the WL until April 1st (2 weeks from 3/18)
2) Rumors state that the WL moves in a nonlinear fashion because dropped spots are filled with applicants mirroring said demographics/statistics
3) They can't tell us everything. Chill and stay distracted until mid-May (then start panicking)

It is going to be a long month and a half. I guess 05/15 is a good benchmark.
