I emailed her multiple times and never got a response, but I emailed somume yesterday and got a confirmation email within like 10 minutes

I sent my update to Dr. Whitehurst-Cook, and she replied confirming she received it. I noticed that new email address on the portal for sending updates. I would just follow the instructions they gave you during your interview day. Once they receive your update via email, someone will need to add it to your app, so I feel like the only difference would be who is adding it to your app. I'm sure you can email it to this email too and be fine.
 
Just got an email that said my application is updated and now it says this

Your File Review is now complete. If you are granted an interview, you will receive a status update on your applicant portal. Please do not call the Admissions Office requesting special dates.

If your interest in attending the VCU School of Medicine has changed, please go onto the Portal to withdraw your application.


Does this look like impending rejection?
 
Weird. Mine still only says the top part (review complete, don't request dates) and has been like that since Jan.
 
Does the post interview hold mean anything? I got it on monday and I could have sworn Dr. Cook said we would hear back on that day as to if we were rejected or put on hold which meant we passed the interview portion. Does this mean the worst we can do is a WL? The portal says


"Your profile will remain on hold until such time that you either receive an offer of admission or an invitation to be on the alternate list. Your application will no longer be under consideration if you do not receive an invitation to be on the alternate list."

So on Monday if you were rejected it would have been because you were ranked a 4 or 5 at the committee meeting. Since you were put on hold that means you scored a 1-3. Sometime next week they will be sending invitations to join the waitlist out of everyone who is on hold. It also sounds like they might potentially sprinkle in a few acceptances if they have room. Anyone else on hold who isn't accepted or invited to the waitlist next week will then be rejected.

Same. I interviewed on the last day and I so far the news Ive gotten this past week have been less than idea so Im hoping for at least a WL

This is the impression I got too. So our apps were presented at the committee meeting on Monday. If you received a hold status in your portal, that means your app was scored high enough that you were not instantly rejected. They are formulating the waitlist right now. If any spots open up, they may accept some student using a rolling admissions strategy. Otherwise, they will put you on the waitlist. If you do not hear about being placed on the waitlist within the next few weeks, you are likely rejected. The most likely scenario this late in the game is being put on the WL and being pulled off as spots become available. I know this process is so unpredictable and it can be disheartening, but we are all here to support one another. And hopefully everything will turn out the way it is supposed to <3

Very well spoken. It's a rough road right now, so everyone keep your chins up! There is a lot of movement left to come, but try not to worry over things out of your control. Focus on today and keep doing you. :banana:
 
If we have already been scored by the committee (ie gotten a hold), would a letter of interest do anything? I really liked the students at the school and this is the only school that does a 1.5 pre clinical which I love. The MMI makes it hard to express direct interest in the school.

Realistically no, that’s at least what the admissions office told me. You already have your score and that’s gonna dictate everything.
 
Historically have the rejections come before waitlist offers? Or the other way around

Last year, people who got invited to the wait list had "new tabs" appear all on one day (kinda like the new tabs people have been seeing on acceptance days, when accepted) and anyone who didn't have been tabs ended up being rejected shortly after that day. I was one of the ones rejected but I can't recall which day the tabs appeared for others or how long after that day I received the status update email. You could dig through last year's and find that out, but I'm on mobile right now and it's 3:40 am

Just checked and last year the alt list came out 3/30 along with the rejections (seemed to be about the same time of the day). Dean Cook said the WL would be formed before mid march and Im assuming the march 16th date on the portal may be when it is but it says if the date falls on a weekend, it will be released on the following monday. No sense really worrying because Im pretty sure our score is in and our fate is sealed anyways.

I hope our fate isn't sealed that tight though 🤔 I sent in some nice updates which the committee saw after my score was given. Really hope they take these into consideration when making acceptance/WL decisions!

Its my understanding that those may be taken into consideration! I sent an update before our monday date (for those of us who got the hold on monday). I know your score it set but the updates can help if they are choosing between 2 people with the same score. Like if you are a 3 and they only WL 1-2 then it wont help. BUT if they take some 3, it may help you nudge ahead of the rest in your group.

I don't think anyone really knows. At the interview they said to send them in before you go to committee review for them to be added. If it was after you went to the committee then there is no way to know if it was added other than to contact her
 
I never got any confirmation for my updates when I sent them to Dr. WHC. Should I send them to the new email?

I would say any acknowledgement means your update was appropriately filed.

My first update (in November) I emailed directly to Dr. Whitehurst-Cook, who responded that day.

My second update last week, I (accidentally) emailed Dr. W-C twice, and then the SOMUME email and haven't received any response from any of these 3 correspondences.

Update: Today on the accepted student Facebook page one of the M2 students posted that they're hosting an unofficial Second Look for all accepted students who wasn't invited for the official one. If you're on the C/O 2023 Facebook page you can sign up there!
 
I could just taste the cortisol in my cereal this morning. My bowl of shredded wheat tasted like shredded dreams and stress...

Just kidding, it still tasted like shredded wheat. Waiting still sucks though, LOL.
 
Maybe enough people declined that they decided to give enough spots to warrant another release date?

I thought it was because they wanted to accommodate and give a fair chance for acceptance to the March interviewees...

I’m saying that instead of offering a few acceptances rolling that maybe there were enough to have a whole release date for it.
