2018-2019 Wayne State University

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Has anyone ever requested a waiver for a prerequisite class that is not offered by your undergraduate institution? If so, did it go through and how long did it take?

Wayne requires two orgo labs but my uni only offers one. Realized this after already accepted and I am freaking out a bit.

Call them and ask. They'll send you a waiver form that you can fill out. If you're denied, you can always take the lab in the spring at a community college or something. I'd call first and ask though.

I did some research on the updated MSAR and it reports you need 8 cumulative credit hours for Organic Chemistry (including lab(s)). However, I went to Wayne's undergraduate Pre-Med advising page. It states, "Two Semester of general chemistry with lab. Two semesters of Organic with Lab." Therefore, I do not believe you need to have 2 semesters of organic lab. It wouldn't hurt to give admissions a call explaining your situation. Let me know because I am in the same position as well as an accepted applicant. Strange that the MSAR has a different requirement than the website, if the MSAR requirements were accurate then i would be fine. I emailed them to ask about it before reading your reply and they sent me the waiver to fill out and return, which I did. I’ll let you know what they say, if I don’t hear back within a week or two I’ll call and ask them about the status.

My portal just changed to SC. Should I be concerned?

Based on this thread (and my own personal experience), everyone that got an II so far went from SS to getting an interview invite. It's likely that SC is a hold. However, it's unknown whether it's a hold that a lot of people get off of, or a soft reject

SC to Med School Invite to Interview (MV) today but I did not get an email. Anyone know how to schedule the interview without the email link?

It should allow you to choose dates within the portal. I also didn't receive an email, but you get a confirmation email after choosing a date.

There are quite a few people with the SS code since September 4, myself included. I got a secondary application complete email, but with the SS status I’m guessing (entirely conjecture) that your app was received.
Yeah, sep 4 SS here as well

I was wondering if you knew when they start accepting people from the waitlist. Do they do it gradually throughout or usually all towards the end of the cycle?

I don't want to make anyone feel like they have a long wait ahead, but...I interviewed in November, got waitlisted in December, and got accepted in May. But some people heard earlier than me. Get a comfy chair, make yourself some coffee, and be prepared for the long haul...

Isn't that the hard part 🙂

Also, @BurntFlower how do you feel about the large class size at Wayne?

For all those who were accepted, be sure to activate your WSU email on the portal and check your WSU email. I have an email asking me to "Accept" my admissions offer. What does this mean? Is this binding?

Update: Go check your WSU email and Accept the offer. It's not binding and there is no deposit. I'm not sure how much time you have to do this but at other schools, if you don't do this within two weeks, they can assume that you're not interested.

Accepting the offer isn't binding. Many people hold multiple acceptances all the way into April (don't be that person if you can avoid it though)

They said about 1,200 is what they're aiming for this year.

So I guess that's a ~25% conversion rate from interview to accepted?

Really curious to see how the # of II's and waitlist movements change this year with the different process with traffic rules and all.

anyone know how their waitlist works? Do they reject anyone post II or do they all get waitlisted? I saw some people say online that they got pulled off the wait list in november some in may. I wonder how it works or how many people are on it

Nah, they accept way more than they enroll. I believe for a class of 290, close to 600 will be accepted. Many people go elsewhere

Okay so this is weird. I randomly went on the portal out of curiosity since everyone is talking about all this SS SC nonsense and sure enough, was surprised to see Med School Invite to Interview (MV). This seems fishy because I never even got an email or a call from them notifying me of this. Is this normal?
