2018-2019 Wayne State University

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
They pretty much just sent me an address and a timeframe. IDK if I'll get more info as I get closer but I think someone replied earlier on this thread with more of a breakdown of how the day went.

@IronSheep

I just finished my interview here about 30 minutes ago and can confirm you never get a schedule.

Cool times. How'd it go?

I enjoyed it honestly. I really loved the city. All the interviews were pretty low stress and I loved the med student 1 on 1 and faculty 1 on 1 interview. The day was a little disorganized due to some unforeseen events but I think they handled it really well.

1) does any one know of Wayne’s financial aid policy...

2)Is Detroit a cool city to visit?

hi sorry if this has been asked earlier I just submitted my secondary to Wayne state 2 days ago (lol). On the checklist, it still says my secondary is not complete and its been over the 24 hours since I submitted. Is that nbd or do I need to call them?

Hey, it's took them 1-2 weeks to update the portal for completion, hang tight 🙂

I will print a screenshot of “Med school in process SS” and hang it on the wall in my living room so when I’m 80 I’ll point to it as I tell my grandkids a horror story
Why ? I thought staying in the SS group is a good thing?

Did anyone else ever read "House of Stairs" by William Sleator in middle school? (I recommend it--kind of like Hunger Games meets Lord of the Flies meets Milgram's experiments.)

SS, SC...This is all one big psychological experiment...

I submitted my secondary on October 3rd, and it still says "Med School in for Review (MR)". Is this normal? I worry that they may have lost my application or something.

I submitted my secondary Sept 12th, still stuck on MR. Nothing to be concerned about 🙂

In the same situation...I'm trying of seeing the letters MR 🙁

MR isn't bad at all. I went straight from MR to MV while I was praying for SS or SC thinking that you must have those letters first for anything to happen lol

Thanks for the encouragement. How long did it take you to go from MR to MV? and what does MV mean lol

MV are letters that show up when you get an II. Took about 6 weeks after I got a complete email. MV showed up the day before I got an email according to the portal. Don't know how many hours apart but I got the email very early in the morning 1-4am I think.

Oh okay, congrats on the II! Are you IS?

how important is it to send out a thank you email to those who interviewed us? i know they mentioned it on the interview day but i sorta dont remember who interviewed me to be able to send out an thank you email.....

I've been stalking this thread as a non-user for quite some time, thought I'd finally join the family.

Secondary Complete in early august. IS applicant
Still on SS!! Been on SS since Sept. 4.

Seems like they aren't reviewing in any particular order? Is a phone call worth it at this point?

Would be great if you could give a call on behalf of all of us lol

Is the MMI an oral interview or wriiten? Pls can someone help me understand how the school conduct their MMI
The MMI is an oral interview, if I remember correctly each station was around 5 minutes. The prompts were not super complicated or anything crazy, I would recommend doing some practice MMI questions just to get yourself comfortable. I found Bemo's free practice questions helpful.

So for all the Sept. 4 SSer's out there.... I gave a call. Can't say it was too helpful. They basically said that interview season goes until March so not to worry our little heads. Unsure of when rejections are handed out.

Remember when being held at SS use to be thought of as a nice thing. Best of luck everyone.

Anyone know when the next round of interviews will go out? IS still waiting for one :/
No idea man. I’ve basically given up with Wayne, especially after doing my Masters there and drastically improving in every area they asked. Been complete since July and haven’t heard anything. I’ve completed 3 other interviews so far at great schools so I stopped trying to get any insider info for Wayne.

I know what you mean dude. I haven't heard back from my alma mater's med school even though I also did a post bacc with them this past year and improved in every single aspect imaginable (higher MCAT/GPA, better LORs, research experience, etc). These application cycles are seriously such a crap shoot sometimes.

Exactly right. We certainly didn't bust our balls to deal with this MR/SS/SC nonsense!

Does anybody have any information on housing? I think I'd like to live off campus somewhere within walking distance to the school. I'm a bit of an older student and may have some higher living standards than a 100 square foot dorm room. How much would a decent 1 bedroom apartment run in midtown? Could I find something for $1300? Studio 1 looks great if anyone has info on that.

Has anyone tried calling or emailing if they haven't heard anything in months?

Since the gentrification of Midtown rent for a decent one bedroom will cost you approximately 900-1800. Housing is cheaper outside of midtown but more expensive if you were to move closer downtown. Also you could live in much nicer places for the same rent as Studio 1.

Can you list a few places if possible? Also, how would you recommend searching for apartments to live in?

After being on SS since Sept. 4th my app finally changed to SC on Nov. 6th. Wish I knew for sure what that meant haha

I just went and checked my portal because I have also been on SS since Sept 4th. But mine has not changed to SC ugh. Maybe you're about to get an interview!!! Does it still say Med School in Progress next to your new SC?
