Looking through the interview feedback for this school, looks like they had about 30-50k in scholarship money during one year. Probably more this year since its a bigger class. I don't how much each student can receive though.

Could anyone share how much they received in the scholarship? I'm wanting to plan out my finances for the next couple years and haven't heard back yet, so I'm trying to gauge the average.

That's what I've been trying to figure out. I really hope their slow pace recently is related to coronavirus changes and not representative of how students will be treated. The lack of communication doesn't inspire confidence

FWIW I received $0 (notified 5/26). I’m not from the IE and not first gen, which are both listed as priorities on the app. My app was submitted 5/19.

+1. $0 for me with relatively high stats and financial need. But no ties to IE and not first gen.

I received a scholarship 2 weeks ago. I think theyre working on it despite covid. They may not have gotten to your application yet. I applied right away so that may have helped. I am not from the IE. Make sure your responses are good.

Does anyone know when final decisions will be made for wait listed students?

Does anyone know when final decisions will be made for wait listed students?
Schools have been known to continue to take people off the waitlist days before the first day of orientation. It is likely they will wait until then to send out final decisions to waitlisted applicants, as it is easier for the schools and a safeguard in case anyone of their current students drop their acceptance or defer.

Anyone shedding a tear while applying for the private loan? why did they have to make it a requirement to CTE by the 1st in order to qualify for the scholarship...:dead:
what's wrong? I haven't apply for loan yet can you tell me whats going on? thanks

Has anyone been pulled off the waitlist recently?

Nope, just silence. My CTE deadline for the OOS school I got accepted to is next week so I might just withdraw my WL spot here at this point.

Sitting in the same position as you. Hopefully we’ll hear something soon!

Current student at cusm and just felt like I had to share what I wish someone had told me before I started. If you have an acceptance to another school....TAKE the spot and don’t look back. Don’t let the appeal of “its in California” fool you. If it’s your only acceptance then I get it. But if you have any other option then go with that option.
The school tries to be put together and show a good face but it’s such a mess, as some of you have already seen in how they ghost applicants and don’t give responses for months. That type of mismanagement continues even when you’re a student (there are plenty of examples). There is so much disconnect between the image that is projected and actual action. There are few opportunities for community outreach even though the school’s main mission is to help the community. For the most part, any club you want to be apart of or an activity/volunteering you are thinking about, you are going to have to either create it yourself or find it yourself, but who has the time to do all that with the amount of coursework. You have to do everything yourself and in the maze that is medical school and getting ready for residency, it’s better to have a school that knows what it’s doing. Maybe CUSM will be great in 10 years time but its not worth the frustration and aggravation of dealing with the mess that is the school in its current state and status. Also should mention that since it’s so new, many many residency programs will probably hearing about CUSM for the first time when you’re applying and who wants to have to be the spokesperson trying to prove that you’re coming from a good and solid school. Again, just being honest and saying what I wish someone had mentioned to me this time last year. Take it how you will. Good luck to you all

If you've felt that you've been slighted or have had a bad experience I feel for you but don't assume your personal experience reflects the way things are for everybody.

1. A lot schools ghost people and don't give responses for months. I had several schools do that to me during my application cycle and many people complain about it during their cycles. It sucks and I'm not condoning it but to imply its a unique problem to CUSM is disingenuous. If CUSM was the only school that did that to you consider yourself lucky.

2. The school was created from scratch and has been operational for 2 years with relatively small class sizes and a small amount of faculty. Of course you're going to have to create some things on your own and go out there and start your own initiatives. While you have obviously felt this to be a negative many have the opposite opinion and view it as an enormous opportunity to make a lasting impact on the school and to really leave their mark on things. I've seen at least a hand-full of your classmates or more take incredible initiative and spearhead some pretty cool things. On top of that there are a lot of supportive faculty that will back you up and your ideas.

3. I'm not sure what more you're referring to when you say "you have to do everything yourself" though. The school has thrown more money at our STEP prep and study resources than most other schools do for sure.

I'm not saying you have to like the school or that you're even wrong about everything for that matter but many people don't share your opinion. And the many complaints you list are definitely not unique to this school. I have a few friends that go to schools on the east coast and they regularly complain about the unorganized administration, the curriculum, management, you name it.

I've been involved with some of the accreditation steps for the school over the years and you would not imagine the amount of moving parts there are. Things have to constantly adjust and adapt as the school grows. It's a helluva lot of work and not everything is going to be perfect along the way when a lot of the staff/faculty regularly pull overtime. So there aren't a lot of community outreach programs or opportunities? It's probably due to the fact that many faculty have many different rolls in the school and things like that slip through the cracks in favor of tasks that directly affect the accreditation of the school. This will improve as we get more staff/faculty but in the mean time it's perfectly realistic to go out there and start setting up these programs yourself by forming relationships with outside organizations and getting some support from faculty that share your enthusiasm. Not to mention, spear heading something like that would look great on a resume/application.

Wasnt assuming my personal experience reflects the way things are for everybody, just as I said sharing my thoughts and experiences. Everyone is entitled to their own and if you are enjoying your experience then I’m happy for you

The quote above says differently. You are absolutely entitled to your opinion but telling everyone to absolutely go to another school if they have the option, I would say, is assuming your personal experience reflects the way things are. But if you didn't mean to come across like that I understand, thanks for the clarification. But I hope things get better for you! I'd recommend going to talk to some of the administration/faculty with your concerns or if you don't feel like that would work for you go to your committee reps.

Does anyone know the address of the new building? Or at least have a general idea of where it is? I know it’s somewhere in Colton. Can any current students comment on how the commute will be from Redlands vs Rancho Cucamonga? Thanks!!

The new building is right next to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. It's off of the 10 freeway exit Pepper. Commuting from Redlands is probably easier in the morning and afternoon because it's against traffic.

Redlands is east from the new campus, Doesn't traffic go from east to west ( from IE to LA ) in the morning and west to east in the afternoon (back from LA to IE)? This would mean someone living in Redlands would face traffic both in the morning and in the afternoon. Rancho would be against traffic both times.

You may be right. In general you are correct that traffic is busier from East to West in the morning, but I'm not sure if that applies from Redlands to Colton. I work in Los Angeles and the farthest that I've personally met someone travel from East to West toward LA is from Fontana. A good website to check out would be sigalert on a weekday in the morning. Traffic is different because of COVID 19, but the general trends seem to be resuming as the state re-opens. I'm sorry for not being better able to answer the original question.

Anybody else on the waitlist still waiting to hear back? Should I give up hope at this point?
Yea, I've given up at this point. It would be nice, but I'm pretty sure they have filled up their class and we shouldnt expect anything. I've already submitted for next years application cycle

I'm still on the wait list, but yeah at this point it feels more like wishing and hoping rather than waiting.

I am also a current student at CUSM and I couldn’t agree more - so much so that I had to make an SDN account to contribute! Although I knew from the beginning that a school created from scratch was going to have its fair share of issues, I would’ve never imagined how many there actually are/were. One of the biggest issues (that shouldn’t even be one from the start) is the disconnect like you mentioned. Aside from the lack of community outreach, there is so much academic misconduct that just gets swept under the rug despite there being clear cut rules written in plain English. There were several issues during the school year that were “handled privately”. One of which was blatant academic dishonesty and according to the student handbook, this specific case of plagiarism was grounds for “remediation, probation, suspension, or dismissal”. Of course, actually resolving the issue would cause more work for those involved and would look bad on a newer school - being as though this would likely be the first student that received a failing grade and such a blemish would be unfavorable amidst the school's process of gaining accreditation. So of course in order to avoid the headache of reporting this on the student’s record and resolving the issue as stated in the CUSM handbook, no action was taken and the student received a passing grade.

If it wasn’t bad enough that students who cheat are not held accountable for their actions, there is/are professor(s) who also partake in the same form of academic dishonestly. One night while trying to make sense of the jumbled mess this professor called notes, I realized an easier approach would be to fill in the gaps myself by going online (because the book we were supposed to have access to was removed/deleted). Within 15 minutes, I stumbled upon a website that looked oddly familiar. It was a webpage for a class called “Computational Models of the Neocortex” which had been taught at Stanford University by Professor Thomas Dean for as long as 10 years (probably more, but the link only took me as far back as the Spring 2010 semester). Every single lecture this professor had claimed he/she made on their own was a mirror image of Professor Dean’s. However, every now and then our very own CUSM professor would add in a blurb or extra sentence wherever he/she felt necessary, but roughly 90-95% of the text, images, format/layout, etc. was identical. Given as though this professor was still completing his/her undergraduate studies on the opposite coast back in 2010, it’s highly unlikely that they contributed towards Professor Dean’s lectures. Perhaps this professor reached out to Dr. Dean in order to request permission to essentially re-teach his course, but again, probably unlikely when you could just claim the work of others without any consequences at CUSM.

There’s no use in bringing up issues or arguing because students and teachers are both not held accountable for their actions. There is no right/wrong at CUSM, the only thing you may notice is that the administration seems to refrain from going out of their way to resolve issues the right way (and even the way stated in their own handbook). Instead, they opt to take any convenient solution that both minimizes burden and goes undetectable. As @goblue9090 said, don’t let the appeal of “it's in California” fool you, strongly consider another option if you have one. But if this is your only one, at least there is some silver lining - you can most likely cheat your way through school with no repercussions! Best of luck!

P.S. To those that recommend going to talk to the administration/faculty or committee reps with our complaints, take it from someone who has personally tried and has classmates who have tried numerous times. It's an absolute waste of time and the only response you will get is "we will take a look into this, thank you for sharing your thoughts".

P.S.S. Although this is a page dedicated to the admissions process, I felt it was necessary to disclose pertinent information on what to expect at CUSM to those who are still waiting to hear back and/or are making their final decisions. While hick-ups here and there are understandable for a brand new school, there is no justifying how CUSM goes about "resolving" issues (in my opinion). Whether it's faculty working too long of hours or the accreditation process having an abundance of moving parts, there is absolutely no excuse for any respectable medical school to allow for the dishonest behavior of both students and teachers to slide by essentially unacknowledged and exempt from punishment.

Unfortunately at CUSM, there are relatively limited places aside from the internet where I feel my voice as a student can be heard. Rant over!

Did anyone just get a R from the school, but in the email it thanked me for participating in interview day, even though they never sent me an invitation? Lmao
Yep hahaha. I must have blacked out for a few days as I have no recollection interviewing or being invited.

Yeah just got the same thing... first time hearing from them since I submitted my secondary in August

First they send an email thanking me for submitting a secondary I didn’t receive, then they send an email rejecting me after an interview I didn’t attend. Get your **** together CUSM.
