Does anyone know if we are required to obtain BLS certification before school starts?

Hi all, I have an upcoming interview here. Other than knowing my application inside and out, should I read up on medical ethics as well? Or is it not necessary? Thanks so much in advance!
When I interviewed, I was only asked about myself and my application. I threw in a few ethics-type of comments when talking about my experience to show that I had some knowledge about those things, but I honestly don't think it was necessary at all. The interview was very chill, at least with my interviewers. Hope this helps!

Does anyone who interviewed recently have any updates on whether the new building will be finished on time?

It's on time to be completed and moved into by the start of the upcoming academic year. We're hoping to move in May or June so there's a really good chance you guys won't have to step foot in the current building

Could any current student comment on whether a lot of your classmates were taken from the waitlist (that you know of)? Just wondering if we should expect to see little or a lot of waitlist movement after April.

Thanks!

I know the dean said that they expect to take a large portion of students off the WL when I Interviewed. But I’d also like to see what current students have to say

OOS- Received an interview invite Dec. 12th. The only ones available were March 6th and 20th. I've been accepted at one of my top schools so I just emailed them letting them know I will no longer be attending the interview. Hopefully, my March 20th slot opens up for one of you!

Can't offer much advice since I'm a post-II waitlist at the normal time 🙁

But I just want to say that's so bizarre for them to make no decision... is it like y'all are waitlisted for the waitlist?
Lol it’s literally the weirdest situation idk what’s going on but I’m just sitting here waiting

M1 here. Yes, lots of waitlist movement last year and they even re-opened interviews very late in the season. No idea how it will play out this year though - it really depends how many people holding As get accepted someplace else.

Re: the new building - it's looking good! One of our profs told me they're expecting to start moving in this May.

Yeah tbh I don't get it either. Interviewed 1/10. My only thought is like maybe we were borderline for acceptances and they are seeing who accepts the ones they've sent out so far before they send out our decisions. Maybe that's a little optimistic but who knows whats going on. Maybe tomorrow we'll hear. I'm at my peak neurotic form rn and about to start my essays for next cycle rip

Same here, dude. But on the bright side I just read an article about the logistics of becoming a snail farmer in Romania, so at least I have a plan "C" if neither this nor the next cycle works out.

Im sorry if this has been asked already, but does this school accept updates?

Yeah I can see that knowing my own personal stats but just.... love me or leave meee don’t put me in this weird limbo. I was feeling super neurotic about it but as time goes on without an answer I’m getting less and less so...despite checking this thread every day lol

I honestly check this thread too everyday and it feels nice to know that there are other people in the same situation. I also think that part of the reason we haven't heard back is because they are waiting to evaluate other candidates too before making a decision. Either way, Friday is almost over and more decisions will hopefully go out next week.

Did you guys find out via email?
2/7 interview also... haven’t heard anything yet.Been an EMT in the IE for over 5000hours... interview went great, so was praying for an acceptance.
I found out by email! Maybe they just haven’t gotten to ur app yet 🤔

Hey guys, I have some questions for a current student. Is the preclinical curriculum 1.5 years or two years? Also, now that there are classes only MTW, do you guys feel overwhelmed during those days? Is something scheduled for the entire day (9am-5pm) or do you have some downtime?

Preclinical is 2 years, although we end 2nd year early (March) so it's a not a "full" 2 years I guess.

I personally don't feel overwhelmed by a three day week although some people may disagree with me on that. I like it because it gives me time to participate in EC's (research, shadowing, etc.) more easily.

There are some days that are pretty full but other's have plenty of breaks. You always have an hour for lunch and there may be time between labs/class sometimes too. It varies quite a bit so it's hard to give you a solid yes/no answer.

Keep in mind some of this could change too. When we move into the new building soon and have more faculty this could definitely affect the schedule in some "minor" ways, at least.

It's two years. The current M2s will take Step in late May/early June. I think they'll have... seven weeks dedicated? The school's going to cut out a week or two from the curriculum to give us more dedicated time next year.

Yeah, I'm usually pretty fried by Wednesday night, myself. Class runs about 8am-3pm with an hour for lunch (Tuesdays can go to 5pm if you get the late time slot for clinical skills), lunch is often taken up by student group meetings, and 3pm-5pm is when any review sessions are held, so the days can get pretty packed. On the other hand, lectures are only semi-mandatory so you can give yourself a break by skipping some. Most classmates love the four-day weekend, especially those who live farther away.

Aw rats... I sure hope that’s the case. Guess I’ll keep on keeping on. Thanks

Can any current students provide some insight on the housing situation? (Are most students commuters? Which apartment complexes do most students live at?)

I am not a current student, but I am from the IE. I know that there are a lot of places/apartments to rent with others in neighboring cities like Redlands, Ontario and Rancho Cucamonga. That being said, a lot of students during my interview were from areas close to Colton like Rialto, Victorville, San Bernardino and Chino, so it could be that a lot of current students are also from these areas.

Quick question about the student email addresses we'll receive once we've matriculated: is it linked with gmail or some separate app/browser portal?

The vast majority of students live in Redlands, and I know some others that life in Riverside. May change next year with more people moving to Rancho/Ontario with the new school going up. I also know a few students live in a new complex that’s right by ARMC. I personally recommend not living in San Bernardino, Colton, or Rialto since those areas can be sketch.

It’s linked to Outlook and Microsoft has a “myapps” portal that you can access everything through

Huh neat. What are the packages based on? Need? Merit? Diversity? Some combination of the three?

Believe it’s combination of need and merit. They have essays that you fill out and I believe the awards are somewhere between $10-30k per year but I’m not entirely positive on that

Do you know when the essay prompts are usually sent out?

While overall I agree that Colton and Rialto in general might not be the best places to live, the areas right around the new school I'd say are an exception. There are several new communities popping up right next to the school (Wildrose by frontier and Blossom at Wildrose village, come to mind) which are nicer/newer homes and where about a third of the M2 class lives. Other than that there's a gated community called Iron Horse, I believe, that's immediately adjacent to the new school which is decent to live in as well.

Other than that a lot of new restaurants and businesses are popping up around ARMC and the new school so I think in a few years, or even less, the area could become objectively nice. Just something to keep in mind.

A lot of people do live in Redlands/Loma Linda area too but the drive will be an extra 10 -15 mins for them (not considering rush hour traffic) with the new location of the school, compared with where it is now. Obviously, some don't care about a little extra drive time but again, just something to keep in mind.
