2019-2020 Loyola

The lady explicitly told us to call if it had been more than 6 weeks. The director of admissions on my interview day in October said call after 6 weeks because clearly someone didn’t do their job right. I would both call ASAP. It’s been like 10 weeks for y’all!

We were told to be patient at mine 🙁

Sure I understand I’m just directly quoting the director of admissions Ms. Whitney, when asked what to do if it goes after 6 weeks she told us: give us a call because someone hasn’t done their job right and I need to go fix it. I’m not telling you to do it, but there’s a chance ur app got stuck along the way at one of their many committees. I don’t see the harm in calling in asking especially since this school is so into showing interest. But that’s just me 🙂

those who've interviewed - any advice/comments on the interviews and overall day?

Just relax. Seriously; Loyola’s interview day was my favorite by far, and both my student and faculty interviewers made the interview extremely easygoing and relaxed.

Enjoy the lunch and try not to drool when they show you the gym.

I definitely felt that Midwestern-nice vibe on my interview day! Both interviews were super conversational and laid back, and the entire admissions staff was really nice. I felt like my faculty interview was super awkward and didn't flow well but I still ended up getting in. One note that I think really helped me at this school - I tried really hard to be extroverted/nice with my fellow interviewees, and I think the admissions staff here really appreciates that!

Idk where you got this info from, but let me say I’m a current student here and I was on hold prior to receiving my II.
Was based on previous years threads but guess I was wrong

I don’t dispute your anecdotal evidence. No one here is saying the chances are 0, but given the fact the school gets 15000 apps, gives only 700 interviews, and no one last year reported on here getting a II after being of pre II hold, demonstrates that the odds are very very low, albeit >0

Also just keep in mind there are a TON of people who never post on this site. I’d go as far as saying the majority of applicants either don’t come on here or don’t have an account and just browse. Even still, I don’t even remember if I posted on here when I got my interview, and I do have an account. I definitely didn’t post on here when I got in bc I figured I’d never go on here again (but alas here I am). People leave out details all the time.

Reason I’m getting involved here is not to go after any of you, I promise!! I know you’ve heard it so many times before, but the app cycle is long and sometimes pretty random. Not every single detail is significant—whether people get put on hold then taken off, whether you get an interview in August vs. January, etc. Some of my friends here got off of CC in May after interviewing in August, I got accepted in February after a January interview and being put on hold in August. Point is, you can never really 100% know what’s going on in admissions.

Believe me I knowww how much it sucks to wait, and I 100% fed into the neuroticism and stress of it all, but don’t be like me. Enjoy the rest of your year before medical school! Don’t get me wrong, med school is great, but I think I speak for everyone when I say I would loooove to be in college again!

I don’t think both of what we are saying Is contradictory !! You are saying that people don’t post on here all the time when they receive bad news (agree 100 percent), you say people get interviews after being on hold (100 percent) and people get off the CC (100 percent). The question was asked if people get off of hold here like they do at gw: at gw everyone is put on hold except for the people who get interviews right away. So maybe half their interviews are being on hold. Here at Loyola it is not like that, it is more similar to drexel or nymc where getting a hold doesn’t destroy your chances but makes it much less likely to receive a II! So I was just explaining that no it’s not like gw where getting a hold doesn’t mean too much.

Im late to the game folks, but just logged into my portal and saw this:
  • Your file has been initially reviewed by the Committee on Admissions. Your file will be held for further review later in the cycle. The review process is continuous from now until the conclusion of our interview season in February. If you wish to update your file, please do so within your portal. Thank you for your interest in Loyola University Chicago-Stritch School of Medicine.

So, what does this mean? They’ve already looked at my application and I’m still being considered?

Sounds similar to MCW's "small pool" email or Tulane's more explicit "Hold for Possible Interview".

Aint over till it's over though, keep your head up!

When were you complete? I’ve been complete since August and mine still says it is under review. I’ve yet to receive an II though, so I’m probably on a “hold.”

It means that you have been put on pre-II hold

For those who already got accepted. Just checking if I need to do anything else.
declaration of intent -- done
technical standards agreed
filled in prerequisites.
have not done VA application and pre matriculation registration.

It looks like they dont need any deposit required.

Any thing else needs to be done to keep my acceptance?. Let me know

I think that's it. I'm in the same boat; just the VA application left. Maybe focus on getting the required immunizations so you're not rushing to complete them next year.

Have you completed the Certiphi background check yet? I completed it months ago, but I'm not sure if I have to manually send it to schools or if it's automatically sent to them.

I’m not accepted but in general, I think certiphi contacts you in January to do the background check (even if you paid to do it before hand). There’s no charge, but then you get 10 days to review befor it’s auto sent to any schools that have requested it

Ah, I see. So they just run another one for free after the new year. Thanks! 🙂

They’re actually free regardless I believe. You only pay if you wanna see what shows up way before hand. Otherwise, certiphi just reaches out in Jan and the charges are waived

Waiting on the post-II decision is rough, I thought waiting for an II was rough! Any idea when they might start calling next with those coveted As? I Interviewed late October

Same --- definitely rough-- feels like it can be any day such torture.
