I think Michigan is one of the only schools that actually makes interview decisions with or without letters. Also, that link shows where most applicants come from, not where they matriculate.

Yup he’s right. Michigan is just chilling rn. There’s nothing except time that will turn these 15–20 ii per week into 40-50 ii. Let’s just hope we get one soon or at least an SDNer cause rn it’s sad

I have a degree from one of those schools, so I’m not too worried, but it also seems like these schools produce the most applications, so that might be why they get the most acceptances.

I think it’s that and the fact that students from those schools have more “wow” opportunities. And I bet the name doesn’t hurt

pretty sure this is "interview invitations to people who applied in June/July, August, September, Other" rather than number of IIs sent in those months

This references when the applicant actually submitted their application (or possibly when they were marked complete), not when the interview was scheduled.
 
Finally submitted the secondary just now (after their 4th marketing email advertising their med school).
I hope Im not too late in submitting 😵:hungover:🙁

You have to dig for it a bit, but the website states that they interview ~50 each year (for 10-11 spots). I don’t believe they publish the number of MSTP applicants though.

Can't blame them, it's an amazing program in a wonderful city, albeit a bit cold in the winters. Hits everything with academics and quality of living/lifestyle. Makes sense for them to be choosy.
 
I got super excited after seeing an email from them this morning only to realize that its their Xth email they've sent to me about advertising/applying to their school etc. I've already submitted my secondary so would appreciate it if they refrained from giving me false hope!

Unless you are MSTP, any emails outside of Monday from Michigan are useless!

haha yeah I'm aware. This has been an ongoing situation so Im going to look for the unsubscribe button if they have one.

Is it weird I have yet to receive any promotional emails from any of the schools I applied to?
 
I was looking at some school's MSAR data and I saw UM's median mcat for accepted applicants is 518 but the median for matriculated is 514. I don't think I've seen any school that kind of a drop, especially an elite school like UM. Anyone have any idea why? Is it the weather?

Maybe their acceptees were coveted by a lot of schools and their high stat ones chose to go elsewhere? Their in states comprise half the class and likely have lower stats that OOS as well.

Could possibly be the out of state tuition as well! They may offer acceptances to high-stat applicants but may lack in financial incentives when decision time comes.

To give some other examples of highly ranked public schools, UVA goes from 519 to 518 and UCLA goes from 518 to 517. And the difference between accepted in state vs out of state is 517 vs 519. Mayo in Minnesota doesn't drop at all so IDK if its the weather either

56k for OOS isn't terrible compared to private schools. Their graduate indebtedness is 145k which is pretty good for med school. To give an example, Vanderbilt is 56k tuition, has a higher grad indebtedness and the change in mcat median scores is -2

Michigan’s out of state tuition is on par with many private T20 schools, who also provide merit to high caliber students, whereas Michigan’s merit if awarded to sameness student, most commonly maxes out at the instate tuition portion. Combine this that they are also known for bimodal acceptance criteria, IS vs OOS for undergrad and would surprise me if the same bimodal rationale was used for the college of medicine too.

Just got an II! It is a Friday...so Michigan Monday is today due to labor day...but got an II!!!

Edit: For those making data tables or whatever you do with the info: OOS, LM 74.5 (unbalanced), WARS 92, Complete date 6/30, primary verified 6/4
