2019-2020 SUNY - Downstate

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got the MPH email and I withdrew my II back in December lol. Pretty sure it doesn't mean anything.

I was also expecting somebody else to chime in about being able to get into the financial aid package but everyone’s been quiet on that front too.
But you’re right, my first thought was “oh **** somebody on SDN is pissed about that email right now.”

I was able to access my financial aid package by clicking on Banner Self-Service and logging in there.

Just got an email from Downstate about applying to an MPH degree, where they referred to me as "a former applicant to the College of Medicine", even though they haven't even sent me a single email about a decision since I interviewed in the fall. What a slap in the face. I guess this means an R?
It's really weird. I don't think that it might be a rejection necessarily. At the end it also says that admission to the MPH program doesn't guarantee an acceptance into the medical college. It's just a weird email. I guess will see what it means either way.

I agree with you all about the ambiguity this school has acted on. I wouldn't be surprised if this email was sent by mistake. I have had the most miscommunication with this school. They sent me an email that I wasn't supposed to get about cancelling my interview then they called to say that was a mistake and I was supposed to be there. Thankfully everything got resolved and I interviewed via skype. So I am not surprised w this email.

im a bit confused about the student interviewer. during the interview day did u guys get any info about the student or did the student reach out to you randomly within two weeks? when i was there they didn't mention anything about the student interview lol

The student reach out to me via email about 4 days after my interview

Did anyone else who got a financial aid package have difficulty logging in with the credentials they provided?

Yeah I’ve tried every few hours to see if it was just a temporary server thing but still no dice as of 6am today.

When would be the right time to reach out to admissions committee regarding peer-to-peer interview? It’s been 12 days since my interview and still haven’t received the email from a student. I know they said within 2 weeks, but I was expecting they would speed up the process this late in the cycle.

I had a student reach out to me after about a week. Set it up for a month after my interview and had a really nice chat.... and then had another student send me an email 2 months later saying that it was time for my peer-to-peer interview. :eyebrow:

Also late to the game but I have not heard anything from Downstate since that "Please Confirm Interest in an Interview" email and just found the MPH email in my spam folder.

Ugh personally this was an issue for me too. I sent them an email about 2.5 weeks after the interview when I’d still heard nothing. They told me to reach out again at the end of 3 weeks — so I did, four days later, and got a very curt response and zero help. Then I reached out again at the end of a full month and finally got reassigned. Then the student emailed me within a couple days and it was a great convo!

Just be persistent but always polite!

Do they accept post II updates.. interviewed in jan and accumulated a good amount of hours

I sent in an update/continued interest letter along with my spring semester grades and was accepted. They do explicitly say on their website that they would like spring semester grades and when I called they said it was okay to send in an update. However, it may be better to personally call to make sure.

I think some people have said that downstate doesn't like updates (?? don't quote me; could be referring to pre-II updates or post-II/pre-decision updates) but the option is there on their portal, so why not? do it!

Yeah they’ll tell us we’re on the alt list in a week or two

So, basically if we interviewed in 2020, then we will be either rejected or on the alternate list ? That makes no sense. Why interview us?

To fill their waitlist. Some of us might get picked off eventually. Im not sure if it’s the same this year, but that’s what happened last year.

he doesn't know anything... he's going based off last year's thread. I don't understand why people say things like this just to be negative
Every cycle is different!!!

Just got accepted to the mph program (applied md/mph), but no word yet for md post-interview. Anyone know if it's possible to get accepted for mph and not md? Or if this bodes well for md?

So I also just got accepted to MPH but already rejected from the MD program in February. I didn't know they would consider my app for MPH separately...

Ah, then it looks like this doesn't have much correlation with MD admissions. Another several weeks of waiting to hear back it is.

Congrats on your other MD acceptances though!

Yeah sorry about that, but hoping you get good news soon! Thanks!!

Can someone please paste the link to the secondary app? Mine isn’t working for some reason and can’t find it in my emails
