2019-2020 SUNY - Downstate

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I interviewed like 2 weeks ago. I assume I'm interviewing for a WL spot. Good luck to everyone

Damn, everyone getting so mad I’m being realistic and logical . Everyone on here is speculating one way or another. The waitlist movement has been pretty good here, so there’s plenty of hope there. I’m just telling people what might happen initially based on what happened last year, and there hasn’t been any indication it’ll be much different. I wish everyone good luck! It really is a crapshoot process.

All im saying is whats the point of spreading negativity? whether you believe it to be true or not doesn't change the outcome. Why not try to be positive?

Those are just my thoughts, backed up with what (little) evidence we have. I’m not gonna sugarcoat them for anybody. We are all strong human beings. If you want all sunshine and roses, this is the wrong profession to choose. I’d rather see what everyone thinks, however hard it might be to hear, than be completely in the dark about what’s going on. This is an open forum for discussion after all. Also, can we agree this argument is completely pointless and move on please lol. We’re all on the same boat here.

Facts. I don’t like being sold dreams.

bro all im saying is keep your negative thoughts to yourself. You're clearly one of those people that likes to think about the worst case scenario to brace for any potential disappointing news. If anything, you are sugarcoating it for yourself. Be strong be positive. If it doesn't work out and you give up, then this isn't the right profession for YOU.

Are y’all gonna be okay? Is quarantine getting to your heads? Y’all might end up being classmates in a few months.
I'm just trying to spread positivity in a time where everyone is negative. Does this make me a hero? I dont know, maybe. I'll let SDN decide.

For the record, I am one of those that appreciates the facts. I know that every cycle is different, but I’ll take the little info I can get. Information is not positive or negative; it is for us to decide how we perceive it. Anyone can read it and still be positive, knowing that this year may be a different case, as I am sure we are all hoping.

Peace and health to everyone in the waiting game.

I interviewed in September and haven't heard back either, thankfully I've gotten other acceptances but I really thought downstate would show me love, I live down the block.

Theres still plenty of time friend! With the amount of acceptances they've probably sent out at this point they'll probably only have about half or so of their class committed to matriculating come the Fall.

Are there any current students on this thread that would be willing to answer a few questions?

anyone who interviewed in jan/feb heard back yet? how many weeks does it take them to get back post-interview

Everything’s probably stalled right now. At this point last year, alternates were already being sent out end of March start of April. I’m assuming everything will be delayed for us now

how does the process usually work? do they usually send out decisions before the april 15th/may 1st deadlines? how often do the admissions committee usually meet?

if you haven't already realized from this thread, no one knows how their process works or when the admissions committee meets. This school's admissions practices suck and are only being compounded by COVID-19 (SUNY downstate hospital is one of the hardest hit hospitals in NY with COVID cases).

Is there a deadline to accept financial aid/loan packages by?

Should I have sent a thank you email to the admissions to forward to my interviewer?
If it makes you feel better, I didn't send a single thank you letter to downstate and got accepted. I sent personalized thank you letters everywhere else with traditional interviews, and got put on 2nd tier waitlists mostly.

Sending letters is nice and it's a good habit. Suny Stony Brook specifically says they add those to your file (as opposed to forwarding them). But whatever your downstate result will end up being, it won't be because of a thank you letter.
