2019-2020 SUNY - Downstate

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If you have been accepted to another school does clicking plan to enroll automatically withdraw your app? Like I want to wait for Downstate’s decision, but at the same time I’m pretty sure I have to select PTE at this point.

No, you need to at least PTE to a school. All medical schools acknowledge this and know students need to reserve their seat by TODAY. DS will know that you PTEd in another school but will not drop you unless you change it to CTE.

So please!!!!! PTE to an accepted school to save your spot

disregard my message above because this answered things for me!

to those with an acceptance- what did your acceptance letter say on it?

I would definitely do research but is that alone enough to stand out? I mean idk what specialty I will be pursuing 100% but I don't want to have limitations in my app.
This question is broad and each person is going to have a different answer that isn't related to which school you go to.

My answer would be if you don't want to do a competitive specialty, research is because you want to do research in your career and match to a research heavy program. The goal isn't to stand out; it's to find a program that matches you and to do the best you can in school. If you are really into languages, run a language class for your classmates and translate lit for patients. If you like public outreach, get involved in the Brooklyn Free Clinic. If you like teaching, tutor classmates and join the educator pathway. If you like music, play in a local band. If you like sports, play a sport.

I wouldn't even worry about these things until you settle into school.

Just PTEd at another medical school. Is the deadline 5pm or 11:59pm to choose PTE?

No we wait for Downstate!!!

Schools have the option to start running detailed reports today, so to be safe for everyone it's probably best to PTE ASAP, and definitely before close of business (5pm) just in-case they have an automated system that may rescind their acceptance automatically. I don't think this would be common, but it's certainly a possibility and it's best to play it safe.

As Gonnif said:
*Its already the last minute, everyone should have their decisions in by 5PM, or end of business.
*Do not assume that it will be fine until the morning or a few days. Since everything is computerized and automated, a school can have the system run an acceptance report off hours and rescind you in the middle of the night. Sound crazy? happened to a student last term.

Feels like there have been a lot of acceptances posted throughout this thread. Dont know how much hope I should have for tomorrow anymore

There have also been a lot of withdrawals. It's not over until it's over, there will certainly be a bolus of acceptances soon and a sprinkling of more throughout the month.

This isnt to say not to be realistic. If one wasnt in the next wave of As, it would definitely be prudent to start preparing for the worst but doesnt hurt to also hold out hope.

What is consensus for us september/october interviewees... are we just auto waitlist? I feel like if we missed both the A and R wave, this must be the case. Hope I'm wrong

I interviewed early Feb and still haven't been emailed back in regards to my status. Is anyone else in the same boat?

We all are. There have been only acceptances and rejections, everyone else has been in silence. I imagine more acceptances and also the alternative list will be handed out soon.

I'd be sort of surprised if the AL isn't made and put out sometime tomorrow.

and when the day finally came...silence
