My friend who goes to downstate said he emailed admissions and asked about the alternate list. they told him that alternate students are given a number (so I'm assuming that means the list is ranked) and as accepted students withdraw they will pull from the list. he said that lots of people will pick DS for financial reasons, but once they're accepted off waitlists at NYU, Cornell, and Sinai, etc., they often withdraw from DS (probably more than ever now, since Step 1 will be P/F). last thing is that the person in admissions said movement WILL occur.

as for those who haven't received the alternate list invitation, I'm sure it'll come in the next few days, like it did last year. but I personally doubt it will be an automatic acceptance, given that they specified the 2020 class was full.

edit: unless as people withdraw, they dip into the silent group and give some acceptances...but then what's the point of an alternate list lol

I wonder if they're treating it differently than last cycle then, because in last years thread some individuals reported getting an AL invite later than others, yet still got off the AL before them, which led me to believe there was no internal ranking. However, maybe rankings aren't concrete and can shift and that's perhaps why they don't share where you stand.

Hmmm that may be true. Maybe if we combine the fact that people are reviewed in batches and the most recent internal information..

I am thinking as the next batch of people is put into AL, the rankings would change.
 
Someone just said they emailed admissions this morning and got an answer (which is good cause it helped us) but at the same time i emailed them last night about the Alt list and still haven't heard back.... 😀 DS is so funny

Sometimes they pull people off the waitlist depending on the demographics that they are looking for. Another school I was accepted at did this. I.e., if they have a lot of OOS withdraw, they may pull more OOS off the AL regardless of whether IS are ranked above them. Also, if they are reviewing in batches, I assume rankings would change each time because they are adding more people to their list that may be higher than some others during the last review. Don't lose hope y'all! You all seem to be a very deserving group <3

Hey y'all, long time lurker here. Interviewed in January and have heard absolutely nothing from them, but from the looks of this thread that could literally mean anything lol. This is so frustrating!

Do you guys think it would be worth it to email admissions asking for some sort of timeline? Will that annoy them and potentially hurt my chances?

Asking them about the timeline would usually get a "your application is still under review" type email. A lot of people here are in the same situation you are in, so welcome to the family LMAO. But I suspect a second wave of AL to come out later this week, (hopefully today)

I emailed them recently and they just responded with this, "A decision to change the status of your application has not yet been reached. You will be notified in writing once a decision has been rendered. There is no set time line as to when a decision may be rendered on your application. Please be patient as we dilligently work on making decisions. "

Lol thanks guys. So sounds like they'll be zero percent helpful. At this point an AL will not really feel like much progress just more waiting to do haha

Ouch the vagueness of that. It could be interpreted in so many ways, or the person who responds may also just have no idea about where in the process our application is. Weve got only time to tell us the answers haha

DS acting so weird, thanks for letting us know! what was the financial aid email even about?
 
Sorry, I know a lot of people are anxious about hearing back, but from those got A's already, do any of you know if the BLS verification needs the in-person training session? Also does anyone know if we need to send official transcripts again, or will they get them from AMCAS?

Also also, what is the student data form in the pre-matric checklist?

Sorry for pestering, just wanna make sure I'm up to speed.

I think the class isn't full; that statement was a direct copy and paste from last year. they're probably going in batches, waitlisting some, and accepting others. there will prob be more acceptances coming up and the next AL wave will cause a rearrangement in the internal ranking. don't be concerned if you haven't heard anything yet! have a good day y'all! <3

edit: and if the class is in fact full, they prob have a set number of slots for acceptances that they just haven't given out yet

Butttt congrats to everyone accepted last night 😀 glad to hear theres some hope for us no AL folks. Hopefully more good news come tonight!
