2019-2020 SUNY - Downstate

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Realistically, of the 50+ alternate list people here, how many would commit to downstate if they could? Any guess on the number of people who would get off of it this year? Also, since the alt list is ranked, did anybody emailed admissions to know how far down the list they are? I’m thinking of emailing them myself tomorrow...

As much as I’d like not to be, an AL does seem like a soft R. I wouldn’t hope for too much to come out of it. It’d be interesting to hear if anyone gets off this list but I’d be shocked to see it happen.

It's still early May, and there was movement every other year late into May all the way through July. My student interviewer got off the AL late July, my friend who is an M1 got off last year in June.

It's definitely possible!

I mean who knows. They were delayed about a month on even sending out As and ALs. I'm sure while they were processing these, people probably did drop their As on April 30th. It is highly likely that they haven't even started looking at how many people dropped their acceptance at the moment.

I would like to think that these sprinkles of As that came out past 2 weeks were not necessarily because people dropped As on April 30th, but rather they were the As that they anticipated on giving out before April 30th if things were going as they planned.

Once they go through all the batches (send As and ALs, and Rejections), I feel like that's when they would count how many As have been rescinded and need to be pulled from AL.

If not, it would be such a waste of time to put so many people on AL because downstate is a kind of school that also required these people to do a checklist last year. They would have to compile that many more documents if they have such a huge pool of AL.

These are all speculations but just my thought process to stay hopeful and sane haha

I have the same thoughts as you. People on this thread will call us “negative” and “impatient” or whatever. But, realistically speaking if the class was full post traffic day then the odds are not on our side.

Everyone can voice their thoughts. It could be seen as negative or it could be also seen as realistic. I think we all have a different way to motivate ourselves to prepare for possible reapplication. Some people need positive vibes whereas some people need to take on a realistic picture of the current situation and move on. This is what this thread is for 🙂))

EDIT: But at the same time I want all of us to get accepted off of AL no matter how unrealistic it sounds

Stop being so negative and impatient

A this afternoon! Super excited, love downstate, I grew up in the city.. only writing this because I am waiting for a decision from another school and will withdraw if I get accepted there. Wanted to say that for AL people because I'm sure a lot of other people are in the same boat as me, which means there will be more A's to come. I just think with everything delayed this year it will take some more time. The cookie is yet to fully crumble! That was corny, but best of luck to everyone moving forward.

last year’s thread shows that majority of movement for WL and AL was from May to Mid June. Being that this cycle is definitely delayed, I would not be surprised if movement continues until mid-July. And for movement I’m talking wave movement not sprinkles like 1 or 2 acceptances. Stay positive and you guys got this.

I really hope they understand the difficult position many of us are in + get back to us quickly. I understand there’s been a delay in the whole process but with commit to enroll deadlines coming up soon, we can’t be delayed for much longer. That’s the other thing: it would have made sense for everything to be delayed so like decisions and commit to enroll deadlines. But for something things to be delayed and not others I don’t understand how this will work

For those who have been accepted, how soon did the financial aid package become available? Is FASFA submission the only required process? Is there a student fb group available yet?

Good luck to the rest of the group! Hoping you all hear good news soon!

Hey all, I have been following this thread for a minute and want to start off by saying how much I appreciate the supportive environment. For our collective tracking purposes, I created an SDN account lol. Just wanted to share that I was placed on the Alt List yesterday and that 3 of my friends also received Alt List placement last week (so additional 4 AL total for SDN records). All of us are IS.

TLDR:
+4 AL, IS

Given that this is happening during business hours I'm hoping it's not an automated A wave and a trickle throughout the day for people on the AL, keeping my fingers crossed! Good luck guys!

Right? I love the fact that this is happening during their normal business hours hahaha

A! Placed on AL yesterday 🙂 Best of luck to all you folks and thanks for all your unconditional support!!
Congrats!!! Wow already some AL movement to As!! Hope for the rest of us. Do you mind sharing your stats?

I got my full financial aid package (MD/MPH) about 10 days after submitting my FAFSA, but I got an only MD package about one week after

Congrats!! Well deserved! You just heard back now? This goes to show us that there's hope for us AL peeps!! :soexcited:

I got the most ambiguous email stating
“Admissions Committee has completed the review of your application and has rendered a final decision” at 1:34PM

However, still can’t see it on CYMS tool

I just checked my admission decision - alternate tab and I did see a black dot filled in for accepting the alternate list yesterday..Now I am not sure why its gone now 🙁
