2019-2020 Texas Tech, Lubbock

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congratulations!!! What are you going to do until next summer since your app cycle is finished with already?

Thank you so much! As of right now I’m going to finish up my graduate program and continue to work in a hospital as a transporter. My goal is to take a trip out of the country the summer before starting medical school.

For those who have interviewed for the regular MD program, how was your experience??

It was a wonderful experience at Tech, wasn't expecting to feel this way about the school. The students on interview day made it a point to let us know how relaxed their interview was compared to other TX schools.

Thanks for the information! I am interviewing on 9/20 and have some mild anxiety LOL.

I was surprised with how great the school is. I stayed with a student host and had conversations with 3 of the 4 roommates about their experience. It was super helpful.

Like someone else already said, this is probably one of the more chill schools you’ll interview at. There is no need to stress at all!! But I still recognize how hard it is to overcome the anxiety nonetheless. Therefore, I’d recommend going to the dinner the night before. It was a great way to release tension and nerves as I was able to get over not knowing anyone. The day of the interview, I already knew about half of the interviewees and 3 current students. This made the whole day a lot more chill.

I’m in love with the school because of the interview and I’m fairly certain that I’ll chose it over any other medical school acceptance barring an acceptance from Mayo Clinic (which I interview at later this month).

Thank you for your input. I am very exciting to be interviewing here as my brother speaks volumes about TTUHSC community! To clarify, the interview style is one open and one closed?

I’m not sure of the difference as I’ve never heard of those terms. Can you explain??

"Open" is referring to "Open File" meaning they know basically everything about you and what you put on your application. "Closed," being the exact opposite, where the interviewer knows nothing about you and is going off a scripted questions and such

Gotcha. Both of my interviewers had access to my application. Not sure if they knew my Mcat and GPA. But they both asked questions about my personal statement and activities.

However, one of my interviewers was a little too busy and never even read my application until I was in the room with him. He would read a little and then ask me about it. It was super weird.

Interesting. Well I won’t pick your brain too much. I don’t want you to reveal too much or say something out of place! Thanks for the information

Krish2012, I have similar stats. LM 75, MCAT 516, GPA 3.99. URM. No II. Disappointed. Maybe not patient enough. Hoped to interview before 10/15. Already good interview at Baylor.

Was Aug. 2 and other earlier dates for EDP’s? Or did I just get the wrong impression on interview day?
I don't believe so. I interviewed on 8/2, however I am not part of the Early Decision Program!

To clarify with how the pre-match process works, we could possibly receive a pre-match offer between Oct 15-Dec 31st?

Yes, for Texas residents applying on TMDSAS system. OOS applicants might hear something back too, but OOS and dual-degree applicants are not part of the Match system.
Yes, it's a little complicated! TMDSAS has a video and podcast explaining in detail, or go here: The TMDSAS Match

Is it possible to lose your only prematch offer if you rank it too low? Say If you got only 1 prematch offer but you ranked liked 6 schools in front of it. Would you lose that match simply from ranking so low even if you didn’t match to any school ranked above it?

No. If you go into Match Day with 1 prematch you will come out of it matched to that school, or possibly matched to a school you ranked higher. You must rank ALL schools where you interviewed.

Is October 15 the earliest that OOS students hear back? And is December the latest?

Anyone with similar status? MCAT 516; GPA 4.0; LM 75. Submitted 6/10. No II. Did interview at TT ElPaso but no invitation to Lubbock. Any suggestions?

Right here. LM75, completed mid July, interviewed at TTEP but it’s been radio silence from Lubbock.

Still waiting here, LM 76, complete 6/19. Been to EP as well.

Has anyone received instruction about setting up an eRaider account?

Also, with acceptances—do they call or email?

I've seen a few posts (especially in last year's thread) mention something about an eraider account. What is this and when should we receive an email about this?

For the free interview housing, when do they tend to contact you about that? I got an II on 9/30, filled confirmed my date (10/11) and filled out the housing form the same day. I still haven't heard back. I'm not sure who I'm supposed to contact about it either.
