2019-2020 University of Chicago

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I received my secondary for MSTP this morning and was caught off-guard by this:
Please provide the names, institutional addresses and telephone number of up to three individuals who are familiar with your research and who will provide letters in support of your application to the MD/PhD program of your choice.

These letters should be specific to your application to the MD/PhD Program, are required, and are in addition to those submitted in support of your general application to medical school.

I have already submitted 3 letters of recommendation to AMCAS from PIs that I have worked under... (I have 5 total, 3 letters from PIs, 1 letter from a professor and 1 from a non academic)

Am I supposed to ask them to write another LOR? I'm just kind of confused.

Anyone have any advice on ITA emails? I'm going to be in Chicago in October. When would be a good time to send it? I was thinking mid-August, but I'm not sure if that's too early, especially since the cycle's just started...but it'd really be nice not to have to fly there twice.

For SFN? I would wait at least until like mid September since SFN is at the end of October.

Quick question: my application says complete and it says my letters have been recieved, however when I go to the 'document status' tab, there is nothing there. Is that normal?

MSTP applicants, are you using the Why Pritzker essay to discuss which faculty you would want to work with for your PhD years?

II received ln (sunday)! guess god works hard but U chicago ADCOMs work harder. Secondary completed 7/16

Stay tuned tho, i gotta tell them I’m vegan and need like legumes instead of the chicago style pizza they’re offering so they might rescind it.

Does anyone know if you are able to upload a document after you have submitted your secondary. I have a list of abstracts that I am trying to add to my application. Thanks guys

Under "status" in the application portal you can update your application

Unless applying MeSH, then check the application portal for the PhD program.

How strict is the word count on this secondary? It says about 550 words which is really throwing me off. One of mine is about 20 words over, but the other two are ~350 words and ~150 words. I'm really struggling to cut down the first one without losing meaning. Is it fine to submit it this way?

Aren’t there only 2 prompts?

If they dont have a hard limit, extra words are usually acceptable but as a percentage check how much you are exceeding.

Silly question: Any August 12th interviewers wanna go 50/50 on a hotel room at the Hyatt? the double queen is the same price as the single king...

only if we get the single king 😉

jk im the 29th
Twas' a fate not meant to be.

Well, if anyone wants a bed and has $80 I got you. Otherwise, I am getting the double bed for maximum bed jumping.

Edit: I am also staying two nights, so if anyone needs a bed Monday night too....

For those of you interviewing on the 12th, did you get assigned to a room host?I haven’t heard back so I’m thinking about reserving a hotel room instead
