2019-2020 Virginia Commonwealth

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got an interview invite a couple weeks ago for fmSTAT. They said that 8/21 was the first date though.

Hi there! Quick question- Has anyone else already been rejected? I'm in-state with pretty competitive scores and extracurriculars (MCAT 518+, GPA >3.9, did a research fellowship in the UK, etc). I submitted my secondary on Thursday, and on Friday I got rejected. I'm a little weirded out by that. I feel like there's no way they could have fully reviewed my application in 24 hours. Has anyone else had this happen? Or has anyone else heard of something like this? Just trying to understand if I did something wrong/how worried I should be haha.

Ah I see, don't worry, I just got VCU'd as well.

So my CASPER scores were submitted to VCU a while ago and I was already marked complete, but now when I log onto the portal, I see this message:
"The Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine (VCU SOM) is now incorporating the American Professional Health Sciences (CSP10101) CASPer test as a part of its holistic review process. All applicants wishing to be considered at VCU SOM are required to complete this assessment in addition to the AMCAS application. For the 2020 cycle, Casper results will be utilized as part of the decision to extend interview invitations. Test dates can be found at https://takecasper.com/test-dates/. To sign up for CASPer, go to www.takecasper.com"

Does anyone know what that means? Did my CASPER scores get lost or is this something that every applicant gets?

Strange, mine doesn't show that, but I just submitted it a few days ago. I did have that statement on there prior to submitting though. Now I just have the your file is complete message.

Application review complete today. Secondary complete on 7/9, IS

Hey guys!

This might be weird but I'm a Richmond resident not too far from MCV. If anyone is traveling far and needs a place to crash for their interview day for whatever reason (finances, convenience, etc.), PM me and I would be happy to try and accommodate you.

Same!

Submitted maybe the 14th? But Casper results weren’t in until the 21st so I guess technically the 21st

Congratulations! Quick question - what did you portal say before you received II? That sub-committee will do a review of your application or that your file is complete?
For the last week or so, my status had been:
Your File Review is now complete. If you are granted an interview, you will receive a status update on your applicant portal. Please do not call the Admissions Office requesting special dates.

Do I need to fill out an application for in-state status? I could not find anything on their website and was required to for two other Virginia schools.

Sorry 🙁 Did you get an email notification or was it just on the portal?
I go an email notification saying my status had changed with a link to a portal. first R it hurts haha, but i wasn't expecting much to begin with considering everyone getting turned down so quickly.

My status changed from the committee will review my file and to not contact the admissions office to
The Sub-Committee will now do a review of your application. Once this review is complete, you will receive a status update regarding your profile.
Have other people seen these two messages?

I’ve had this sub-committee message for at least 2, maybe 3 weeks. Don’t read into it.

My portal has shown just the complete/sub-committee review status for ~2.5 weeks and then this was added today:

Please note that your file may be put on hold during the review process. Such reasons may include:

Hold for MCAT -- The Committee wishes to wait to evaluate your file until new MCAT scores are available. MCATs taken after September of the year of application will not be considered. If you are not planning to take or retake the MCAT, please contact our office immediately by email at [email protected]

Hold for Grades -- The file review done by the Committee has determined that you are engaged in coursework which may affect their decision about whether to invite you for an interview. It is imperative that you submit grades for current or proposed courses in a timely fashion. Any file on hold for grades that are not submitted by January 31st will automatically be rejected. If you did not take the course indicated on your primary or supplemental application, please notify us immediately by email at [email protected]

Does anyone else have this or know if it's just a generic notice? I took the MCAT in March and graduated in May so I just want to make sure there's not an error.

It’s generic — don’t worry. We went through this last cycle.

Don't worry about it, I was stuck on the "your application is now complete" message from when I submitted on 7/9 until 7/30 when I went through all the other messages over the course of two days and now I have the "file review complete" message. For me at least the progression was random.

Are you IS or OOS

It was the “Your file review is now complete” one, saying they’d contact me if I was invited for an interview

Congratulations! How long was this your status before the II?

MMI questions! Does anyone know whether VCU's MMI format includes actor scenarios? Also will most interviewers have follow-up questions? I'm having a hard time getting my answers to last anywhere near 7 minutes...
