2019-2020 Wayne State

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Also, do you think a 3.75 and 518 would be good enough for WSU?

Yes those numbers are fine (I am accepted with lower numbers). But, you can still be rejected. Numbers have very little to do with the application process other then keeping you from getting screened out. This whole process is a lot more about demonstrating how your values alight with the values of the schools you are applying to, which is why people with high MCATs can get rejected and people with low MCATs can be accepted.

Anyone accepted receive the paper acceptance letter via mail yet lol? I know wayne is not on top of their ish but i am just inquiring

Wayne said they'd send more information regarding the waitlist too... they never did lol.

honey, I had a 4.0 from u of m and a 516 mcat, so IDK what is "good enough" for them, and they don't really seem eager to tell me either :|
I have an LM 75.5. Tons of extracurricular activities, publications, doctor shadowing etc. Submitted secondary early Aug. Have not heard from them yet. No II, No rejection. Nothing! Anyone in a similar situation?

i had submitted in early july and only a few days ago received an interview so it could be coming! they probably don't review chronologically like most schools so not hearing anything yet isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I am really sorry, as I keep saying this whole thing is a crap shoot nowadays, and many times it's up to whomever is reading your application that day and if they're in a good mood. I wish things were different and med schools would actually put as much effort into this process as the applicants clearly do. The best thing I can say is keep holding out hope. Try sending them a letter of interest just to remind them you still exist and that you're interested. Make highlight of the top things in your application and what you've been doing since the summer to better yourself in the field of medicine. I keep pestering the adcom people trying to get them to reveal their secrets, but I can assure you that even once you've been accepted the process does not become any more clear. I promise that if I hear anything you all will be the first to know, but I am just as frustrated with this whole con game as anyone

Same but my LM is a little lower and I'm from the area... no idea what to make of it, but here we are😳

Just to share my thoughts to you all. I’m a reapplicant this year who got accepted through EDP. I was RD last year though. If you haven’t heard anything and finished secondaries in July don’t worry, it’s still somewhat early in the cycle. If you’ve had an interview but haven’t heard back, hang in there, hopefully you will get good news soon. And if you were accepted congratulations!

This year I’ve noticed that Wayne and all the med schools in general are moving relatively quickly through the application cycle so you should hear back soon.

Last year when I applied I submitted my secondaries in the second week of July and I heard silence from not only Wayne but every other school. Then from December until April I slowly got rejected from all 14 schools I applied to. It was very rough so I feel all of you who are waiting or are just facing silence. I hope it works out better for you than me.

Apparently last year amcas changed some stuff that limited what med schools could see about you including other interviews and acceptance offers. Since I was rejected last year I’m not sure how acceptance worked but it seemed to be through amcas. But this could explain for the excruciatingly slow movement and the adoption of the acceptance on the portal, to help make better decisions about interviews and acceptances

Hi, when you reapplied, was it your gpa, mcat, or ecs that changed the most? or did you not apply widely enough?

I was complete here in late July but received my 2nd MCAT score 9/4 (499-->511). I have a cGPA of 3.79 and a sGPA of 3.75. Do you guys think I have a chance with my late MCAT?
Seriously, no one really knows. A few people with LM in the mid 70 still haven’t even heard anything. Your stats is competitive for Wayne with your current MCAT but stats mean nothing here as others with better stats have gotten silent treatment from them. You might have better outcome if your app has what they are looking.

Anyone know if there is a space to store luggage and a small backpack during the interview?

For those who receive interviews, is there a change when your application is being reviewed or does it go straight to interview invite? My application, currently states, in the communication tab - Wayne state school application completed. Will this change when i'm being reviewed?

Thank you.

I had an interview and my current application status states that my application is ready.

Is this new news or old news? I wonder what it means for the med school.

Within that same article, it says that WSU and DMC split back in May. I don’t think it should have an effect although maybe a current MS3/MS4 can chime in.

Is everyone who interviews required to sign the video release? I guess it would be kinda weird if my photo is used and I don't end up getting accepted or going there? Tried to search through this entire thread but couldn't see anything. Thanks in advance!

Submitted my secondary Nov. 1st (was a little late in the game)... am I unlikely to get an interview at this point in time?
(cGPA: 3.92, sGPA: 3.96, MCAT 516)

with those stats at Wayne I dont think it should be a problem

I interviewed today! The interview day was a bit more disorganized than I expected, but I felt happy with the program after talking with the students and faculty.
Were you able to tour the city? The buses were unavailable on our day :/

I submitted my secondary early August with similar stats as yours. LM 75.5. Not heard from them yet.

Despite the heavy snow, we fortunately did have a bus tour! Detroit has a lot more to offer than I thought, so it definitely went up in my list. Sorry to hear you couldn’t get the tour though 🙁

Hmm... not sure if its bad to not have heard anything yet or how worried I should be. I do hope you hear back soon though!

Public schools will have preference for instate (60% of wayne students are instate), then OOS, then Canadians (if they take them), then other internationals (if they take them).

This is mainly because of the funding. Public schools get the majority of their funding from their state, hence why they are inclined to take more instate students. IS tuition is also cheaper because it's better subsidized by the state (they are inclined to give their own residents lower tuition, as it is their own tax money). Then of course OOS is the next preference, then everything after.

Makes sense! Thank you

I submitted my secondary on Oct 15 and just got an interview today. You still have a chance.
