Hi there! Current student at WSUSOM.
In terms of housing, most students live in midtown/downtown or out in the suburbs (Dearborn, ferndale, royal oak, etc).
Living in midtown is nice if you don't have a car and want to be close to school. It is however more expensive and difficult to go grocery shopping due to lack of grocery stores in detroit other than Whole Foods/eastern market.
There is on campus housing (the union/studio one). These are pretty expensive, about 900 for your own room/bathroom and you will have a roommate that I believe you can pick. Everyone i know who lives there lives with another med student. It is about a 10min walk to campus/DMC and it is really close to the gym.
Living in the burbs, you will get more space for your money, have access to more food and other shopping (target, Walmart, Costco, etc) but you will need to drive. Royal oak/ferndale is about 20-25 mins depending on time of day and traffic level.
The FB will be set up soon! Current Senate will take care of that and it should help coordinate roommates.
