Idk the exact numbers but according to the website 60% of class 2023 is in-state

For those who heard back post-interview, what time did you receive a call/email? Today will be officially 3 weeks after my interview and they told my group it would be two weeks at the latest. Kinda going nuts here and possibly expecting to hear today since it's a Wednesday so a time of day to expect it would at least be nice lol. Thanks in advance

Maybe the e-mail got lost, you can check the portal to see if a decision letter was posted. I interviewed in November and got the decision 6 days later with an e-mail at 9:17 AM (MST).

Stupid question, but where would I find the letter? I see a button for print receipt, events, and then another button beneath that for attachments. Is there a separate portal that I'm forgetting about? I know some schools have that

So I just called and they said that at this point in the cycle, (despite them telling us 2 weeks at the interview) it could take 4-6 weeks to hear back and we could be waiting until the beginning of march 😱

Not a stupid question, as it only pops up once you get the decision. A button titled "View Your Decision Letter" will appear below Events and above Checklist.

It's crazy that it will now take 4-6 weeks, but I guess they might be starting to look back at everyone they waitlisted previously?

Haha I was super excited when I saw people were getting early responses back. Oh well, guess we gotta play the waiting game again.

I uploaded an update letter to my portal. Is uploading it enough or should I e-mail admissions to alert them I uploaded it? I don't want to annoy them lol

I called about updates a couple weeks ago and was told to send them an email in addition to uploading it to their portal. I think they want the email just so they can make sure they received it and to be sure it gets delivered to the ad com.

What email address did you send it to if you don’t mind me asking? The website says updates are only accepted via portal, but if it’s straight from the horses mouth I get it.

Update: was told by admissions that they get an automatic notification when someone uploads an update. If it says "ok" in green, we do not need to e-mail them.

Has anyone here been offered acceptance after being placed on the WL yet? I am assuming most the the movement will occur between March and May but at the interview they made it sound like some may get pulled off earlier.

Pre ii R yesterday. Was on hold since October. One of the better rejections lol; they briefly outlined what parts of my application could use improvement.

I haven't even heard back post interview.

Wow, a personalized rejection letter? That's awesome - well more awesome than a generic rejection. They clearly put time into their review.

Hello all, I don't believe this has been put in here yet, so there is a FB group now for accepted students under the name "WVU School of Medicine Class of 2024". Look forward to meeting you all who are accepted and good luck to those still waiting to hear!

Pre-II R after being put on the interview waitlist back in August. OOS.

Hi does anyone know how the waitlist works at WVU? I know that they said they would be reviewing the applicants, but like what are the chances of getting off of the waitlist?

If I remember correctly (and somebody correct me if I’m wrong), they said that those that get off the waitlist typically match the performance of the person who declines their acceptance to the school. So it’s probably on a case by case basis. As for the movement of the waitlist, I’m not entirely sure.

Interviewed 1/16 and still waiting. They said 4-6 weeks and this is Wednesday week 6 so I'm anxiously refreshing my email

Can we safely assume that there are no more spots in the class? So waitlist is the best result at this point, and then waiting until accepted students choose another school and spots open up? Let me know if you guys agree or disagree with that. Legit dying to hear back at this point - I really want to go here.

I feel the same way and really want to go here. I think that’s what the case is, because of the slower response time. Or they are maybe just waiting to finish interviews and just send all the decisions at once.

I interviewed last Friday there (last interview of the season I believe) and there were still spots left in the class.

they also told us that if we don’t hear a final decision by the end of the week. They’ll send us an email letting us know what day the final decision will be announced. Apparently they are behind on their reviews.

To add on to this, the statistics for previous cycles have been abysmal, something like ~15% post-II acceptance rate for OOS (that includes acceptances from the WL). I recall a person or two mentioning somewhere on this thread that WVU has aimed to lower the number of OOS they interview, though I'm not sure whether or not this is true. On my interview day in December, all but two of us were OOS, so I imagine they still interview a very handy number of us.

Not sure how true this is because on MSAR it states that they accept 40% OOS? And the MedStays I stayed with were telling me that its about 50/50 in their class for OOS and IS

Waitlisted this morning. Interviewed 1/31

It’s seems true. They accept 40% of their class OOS, but they also interview significantly more OOS students vs IS. You should be able to see on their MSAR.

Waitlisted OOS. Interviewed 1/31

S_Guster is right about the post-II OOS acceptance rate. It's between 10 and 15% over the last few years which is one of the lowest I have seen. They interview almost 10X the OOS applicants that they ultimately accept.

Last year they interviewed 646 OOS applicants and only 36 matriculated (MSAR data). Assuming some reasonable turnover you could guess that they accepted 60 - 80 to fill those spots. Still only about a 10-15% post-interview acceptance rate.

As someone who was waitlisted at WVU last cycle, I would encourage people without an acceptance who are on the WVU waitlist to stay positive and hopeful but be realistic about the chances of getting the call.

Best of luck everyone!
