I suspect more people are applying DO (hedging bets because less experiences/ opportunities were canceled and people want to play it safe). Especially for DMU who will interview without an MCAT, it's worth shooting your shot.

From what I’ve read in this forum alone, applications are significantly up across all schools. To the point that many schools are sending out emails asking for more time to process applications as the amount they have gotten have gone up quite drastically.

I called admissions, they're actually taking longer than 3 weeks because of the volume of applications they've received. Since they are accepting mcatless apps many people have already applied.

I had an issue with my AMCAS application and when I called the AAMC, they told me that there has already been more applications submitted than ever before (that was back on July 6th) . Unfortunately this is going to be a record-breaking year, assuming the increased number of AMCAS applications translates to more DO apps as well.

More people applying... but also more people without MCAT's who are unsure of how they will score. I would figure a great number of people will be reduced after their MCAT experience...

Second, many schools advertising MCAT-less entry may still prefer applicants with an MCAT... Who knows... This whole cycle is a wild ride.

That's what I was hoping for when I decided to apply this cycle, but now I'm really not sure. I only know a few of my friends and co-workers applying this cycle. A lot of people I have asked will apply next year since COVID-19 canceled a lot of their plans. From SDN it seems the opposite though, lol.

I agree with both of these points. I hope they prefer applicants with an MCAT score

As wonderful as it is that more people are going to become doctors, I was hoping that it would be less competitive, lol. This will be my second time applying and I really don't know if I can afford a third
 
It has been exactly 3 weeks since opening my DMU portal and still says "under review"... should I reach out to them or maybe give it a few more days? has it been taking longer than 3 weeks for anyone else?

Today marked my exact three weeks as well! I'm still at the "Not Received"
 
I wonder if more people are applying because they have "nothing better to do." Like, their gap year EC's got cancelled, so since they won't be able to do them to boost their application, they figured they might as well apply anyway since whether they apply this cycle or next cycle, they still won't have that EC done. So I wonder if the better question is: are there more competitive applicants this year vs previous years?

more apps = more competition since DO accept lower stat applicants, a lot of people who would be applying MD probably are testing their luck w DO schools which is why so many schools saw a flux of apps.
 
Is the local science GPA supposed to be your most recent classes, or only the prerequisite classes? My local sGPA is way lower than my overall sGPA, even though I did much better junior and senior year than freshman and sophomore year, so shouldn't it be higher?

Is it possible that they include P/F classes to calculate number of credits for local GPA? Since that would increase number of credits without increasing quality points and lower the calculated GPA

Update: Just calculated on my own a couple of times and it looks like they might have made an error, since I got a different sGPA (unless I made a mistake. Going to try a few more times just to make sure)

no, i have 3 P/F and they didn't calculate it in.
 
Would it be rude of me to email DMU admissions and ask if they can recalculate my local GPAs? I know I shouldn't assume they made an error without any evidence but I did the calculations on my own a bunch of times for both cGPA and sGPA and still got the same numbers that are different from the GPAs that show up on the portal

I wouldn’t ask them to recalculate but maybe just ask why there might be a difference

Past the three week mark still waiting for that last 8/9 to change to 9/9. Although considering some people waited almost 4 weeks before the status changed I’m gonna hold off another week before sending an email.
My guess is since they are still struggling just to get applications completed for review interview invites will still be a while off this year.
 
My application has been marked as complete, but my physician letter of recommendation is not showing up in under my "Supplemental Items and Documents" in my account. Should I reach out to make sure that it has been received?
 
Yay finally my application is complete. Submitted on 7/7 so just a little past 3 weeks.

I’m not sure how they are going to be sending out interview invites next week as someone else reported when they are just starting to mass finish applications to review status.
