damn does this mean they filled up their class? 🙁 deferred decision on 03/19
not sure, she mentioned it in reference to the fact that there will be breakout rooms during second look, so im assuming we all need to be assigned so we can know which breakout rooms we are assigned to? wishing you luck for an updated decision!!

Interviewed with GMED today. They said they were hoping to make offers in the next day or two.

Second look today!!! I hope like crazy I don’t get activated for on call cause one I don’t want to work 7 days in a row AGAIN but 2 I am really looking forward to it!

Professional - dealing with Latinx/Hispanic population. Peoria is 6% and Chicago has nearly 3x this. Continuing my language fluency

personal - health condition and my treatment is based in Chicago/suburbs
Thank you! Did you limit it to one page?

Can someone who attended the Peoria second look pm me? I was unable to make it.

Hello! To all admitted students, did any of you guys send in more than 2 letters of interest/ intent? I have been on delayed decision since January and I was thinking of sending in a letter, but I have already sent in a letter of interest and a letter of intent. I don't want to come across as annoying but I also want to show them I am still interested. I sent the last letter in February.

I think the best way to show your continued interest is by informing them of updates in your application since interviewing. That way you’re still communicating your interest, but not rehashing things you’ve written already. I’m also of the opinion that you should not write more than 1 letter of interest and intent and any other update should just be in the form of accomplishments/developments in your app

So what’s the deal with fingerprinting and all... has anyone does this? What’s the process like and is it as personally invasive as going thru like driving tickets and all?

This is random... but is the weather really as cold as people say it is in Chicago? I am from the South so I am really trying to gage my parka investment haha 😆
Lol yes it is pretty cold. It is not rare for it to drop below 0 and during the peak of winter jan/feb it can stay at around 0 for days. The wind also is terrible considering that the midwest is flat.

Are there any brands people recommend?? Sorry I have no idea about what is a good winter boot - California person here haha
all the international kids love a good canada goose jacket LOL. But a mid-thigh length north face, columbia, arcteryx, patagonia parka will do. layers and scarves are a must.

I
Have you heard anything? My interviewers said we would hear in the next few weeks.
I haven’t! I didn’t ask the interviewers, but Jeanne said within a few days after I had emailed her a question. I guess that was too hopeful lol We’ll see! 🙂

Lol I think you guys are being dramatic about the cold, but I like the cold and snow so I guess ignore me 🙂 It doesn't always drop to 0 degrees, and if it does, it's usually at night and only a few days per year. The wind isn't bad at all when you're in Chicago because of the buildings (it's kinda nasty by the lake though).

Here are some hopefully helpful recommendations about winter gear:

The winter coat brands listed in the comment above (mid-thigh length north face, columbia, arcteryx, patagonia) are good... Eddie Bauer or LL Bean are also good and might be a bit cheaper than the patagonia and north face. Just make sure you get some sort of down jacket (probably goose down). It is worth the extra cash, but the Canadian Goose brand is def not required (those things can be $1000 lol). Also, if you are able to buy one relatively soon, they are probably on sale now since it's the spring! I recommend getting a size up if you want to be able to fit a hoodie underneath or if you want extra layers!

For boots, a lot of people like Sorel and Merrell for actual clunky snow boots, and a lot of the coat brands listed up there also sell good snow boots/more stylish options. Doc Martens/Uggs/Tims are also great. I recommend you look for waterproof/insulated options.

For walking around outside, get some sort of hat!! I really like Love Your Melon, and I think they donate money to research on pediatric cancer too.

The most important things about combatting the cold is base layers. Find some really solid warm base layers (like long sleeve compression tee/leggings) and it helps a ton. Also super warm socks. Check out the store Uniqlo. They have some gear called 'Heattech' which I use on a daily basis during the winter.

No it really is that bad for the cold. This winter was awful, we had three weeks in a row of Luke snowstorm after snowstorm, I remember shoveling the driveway 14 times in those 3 weeks. It was also horribly cold with wind chill like -10 degrees it really sucked. It’s not always that bad though the winters just vary by year. I gave up on this state though one year when it snowed on my birthday in late May.

Also be prepared for construction all the time.
It’s a bad joke but there’s truth to the 2 seasons of Chicago, construction and winter 🤣.
