2020-2021 Michigan

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For those ho have interviewed, how was your experience? I'm kinda confused with the whole thing and would appreciate any insight as to what we should expect. To those who have been accepted, congratulations and go Blue!!
The interview day was very enjoyable and well run. It is a combination of MMIs and traditional interviews. Conversational interviews and you get to know some of the other interviewees throughout the day as well. Happy to answer more questions via pm.

Also got the pre-II R, although UMich wasn't ever a favorite of mine. I will say that I was pleasantly surprised when I was learning about the school tho

Congrats to everyone who got IIs/acceptances! This seems like a great school (not that I need to tell you tho!)

Ah sorry didn't mean to cause any panic!
Nope you did not cause a panic. Just reminded me that sometimes important emails do go to spam folder (or promotions or social)!

Thank you, will PM!

Not to be that applicant, but I previously read a post in the thread which said that even if they were to get an II, they wouldn't accept it. So my question is, why keep your application in? Basically, you are preventing other applicants who REALLY WANT to go to this school from getting an II since they could very well be on the pre-II rejection wave simply because there are too many applicants. By withdrawing your app now, you are saving the adcom's time AND giving hope to an applicant who really wants it. I know this post may seem like out of line/annoying, but I just REALLY want to get an II here and I know there are "better" applicants out there who probably have IIs to their top choice schools that aren't UM. Please yall, just think about it for a min, and thank you for coming to my Ted Talk lol

1) he/she/they probs didn’t 100% mean it, was probs saying that in retrospect
2) no harm for top tier applicants to interview everywhere and compare offers (financial, location, etc may all come into play later)

no applicants, or almost no applicants, will drop their II to “benefit other applicants” and we can’t really blame them for it - it’s a natural thing to do, as they have no obligation to look out for other applicants in the expense of their opportunity to check out other offers they receive.

going to end this with a disclaimer that i am NOT a top tier applicant, and i’m not trying to defend myself.

Interesting to think about when to challenge what’s “natural”. Certainly, it is understandable that highly successful applicants would take many interviews with the hopes of leveraging benefits, at the same time I don’t think there is any harm in asking applicants to be altruistic and really ask themselves is if they would attend a school if accepted.

Hey guys, are the interview slots for Michigan mostly filled for the 2020-2021 cycle already?

Towards the bottom of the page is a tracker-This shows how many interviews and acceptances have been offered so far, I believe. I am unsure what the total number of either is though

They usually interview ~500 and accept just shy of 400. If the tracker is utd, it looks like there are likely more II going out but I can't imagine there are a whole lot more.

Also, its note worthy the most As go to folks that apply in June/July.

Best of luck everyone. Hope you stay positive & sane for tomorrow and the rest of Michigan Mondays.
At the end of the day, even if Michigan didn't vibe with our applications, I am manifesting that everyone on this thread finds success at other awesome schools! 🙏

Hey everyone! Just wanted to confirm - is the appropriate way to submit letters of interest through secondary application portal (updated documents tab)? Thanks for the help!

Anyone else OOS and complete mid/late July freaking out? I missed the R wave but haven't heard anything II wise, and there's only a couple Michigan Mondays left. I need some hard-core manifestation, this is my dream school!!
Same here. Exactly.

I have such little hope for this school I didn’t even realize there was an R wave lmao but +1 for silence

Gonna be annoying and ask again (because I imagine we’re getting more traffic today).

anyone know where to submit letters of interest?
