2020-2021 NYU

Based on last year's thread, the last wave of IIs was sent on 11/21. Do you think they are going to stay on a similar timeline this year even with COVID delays?

highly doubt it. Most schools are behind, and NYU sent out a lot more II waves than they have this season

MSTP only has one more interview date, but I'm not sure if the MD and MSTP finish at the same time

Anyone from Nov 2 interview date hear back yet? Also can anyone accepted speak to when Dr. Rivera called them vs. when they received the email (same day, etc)?

I got the call before the email. I think Dr. Rivera likes to be the one to give you the news first. If you come on here one day and see a wave of post-II holds and Rs from people who interviewed your same day/week, but your email is empty, that’s possibly a good sign. Just my 2 cents, no idea if this is true for everyone who got accepted.

+1, interviewed 11/3. I'm a little confused though from their wording - have they reviewed our apps to reach the decision of post-ii hold or is it saying that they just haven't had a chance to review our apps yet? haha maybe i'm just tryna be foolishly optimistic heh!

Post-II hold. Interviewed 11/5.

My reaction exactly haha.

Post-II hold manifesting an A tho ✨✨✨✨✨
So if they said "cannot offer you a place in the medical school class entering in August 2021." That's just a straight rejection, or is that the post- ii hold?

Might be a rejection 🙁

Towards the end of the email, did they say you are still being considered for a potential seat in the entering class?

Anyone from late October/early November interviews have radio silence so far?

FYI...
From recollection, Based on last year's thread and Dean Rivera's briefings....
  • About 2/3 people receive post II R's at first committee decision point following interview
  • Remember, only about 110 A's are given out before the CTE date.
  • My estimate that 50-60 A's are given out as first pass acceptances at first decision point after interview.
  • Probably another 30 A's for the first Hold decision point toward end Jan/early Feb. And then trickle.
  • And in the end about 15-20 A's from wait-list included in the 130ish total.
  • 100 Matriculate
  • Yes, I am saying their is about an 80%, very high Yield at NYU.

If desired, You can cross reference / verify these numbers as quoted info from Dean Rivera and cited in last year's thread. I'm just trying to answer some of the questions for those asking about their 'odds.'

The 2/3 number seems off. At least in my group, he said ~80% of the interviewers get a hold, which is probably true given how many post-ii holds there are in this thread

Sounds like a Fair adjustment.
I think I shouldn't have said 2/3 at the first committee meeting. But I think by the big January cull, there are about 100-200 on wait list remaining after the acceptances and rejections.

Hi all! Does anyone have any advice for MMIs? Have never done one before, so super nervous

Hi! This was my first MMI too and I was also really nervous but I think it was much more straightforward than I expected. There’s no “acting” or anything like that, they just ask you open-ended questions and you respond to them. It’s kind of nice because you can talk about your opinions and insights on certain topics. I think they just wanna see how you think. For my MMI, they were mostly standard MMI questions and there’s loads of practice questions online that can help you prepare. Best of luck to you 🙂

Thank you! And to you too!

Based on what they mentioned on interview day, the week of Dec 14 is the last for interviews. I'm thinking if they sent out another wave it'd happen within the next week or so
do you mean invites sent out the week of Dec 14 or the actual interviews themselves? Thanks!

Since it seems that dec 13 might be the last day of interviews, and we haven't received any rejection yet maybe we will get interviews this coming week
Have they sent out pre-II rejections? I’ve heard absolutely nothing thus far and complete in July

Yeah, I interviewed 10/27, was told I'd hear back around the week of 11/16, and have not heard anything since. ):
You haven't heard anything since your interview date? That's probably a good sign because multiple people who interviewed on that date on this thread have said they got a post-II hold and some got post-II R

I'd like to hope, but the silence is definitely nervewracking. Fingers crossed!
