I totally disagree with this - do not "remain on the fence as much as you can". They want to see that you can take a stance, back it up with insightful reasoning and evidence and be open to changing your mind when presented with new information. There's not a doctor in the world that made a career out of being indecisive.
The particular one was an MMI one of the acting scenarios with a student, where I was supposed to be his superior. In my feedback review I was told I should have gone over both sides more, and that was probably my most negative mark. Maybe I didn't phrase that correctly.

I agree with what you're saying for the one on one, and MMI scenarios asking more insightful and direct questions about healthcare, life, etc. And you're the MS2, so what do I know, lol!

*sigh* only 18 more days... but who's counting? I think acceptances hear a day before the deadline if I'm right? Someone correct me if not I'm just trying to figure out when to expect a decision
From what I've seen on last years thread as well as what I've been told via email with Kari is that we will receive news from now until the 30th with Adcom discussing files as fast as possible. So A's are being given. I don't know but my suspicion is if no update then you haven't been discussed or are most likely haven't met the A threshold and can expect a waitlist position? :blackeye:

Ok sweet! I interviewed the second week of March so I figured I wouldn't hear anything until end of April anyways!!
Accepted 4/9/21. Interviewed first week of March!
CONGRATS!!!!

Does everyone’s portal say this? I interviewed a month ago, and this is the first time I saw anything different on the portal (I check everyday lol). Still no decision of any kind though.

Thank you for interviewing with us. We hope you enjoyed your interview day.
PLEASE NOTE: We will update your status as soon as a decision has been made.

We would appreciate feedback about your interview day and hope you can spend five minutes completing this survey:
Please note that further updates will not reopen your file or change the committee's decision.
You should probably remove that link from your post since anyone can now submit interview feedback....

Mine has pretty much said that since my interview (early March).

Did anyone have a bad time with these virtual MMIs this year? I was pretty upset after mine.
Overall, I feel good about it. If you don’t mind, what upset you?

There were quite a few technical issues during mine, which I completely understand, and the OHSU team did as best as they could imo. However, I felt that some of the raters were dismissive or seemed like they were looking for specific answers. Some even cut me off. I was crestfallen and it really changed how I felt when I met with other raters. Some were remoting from far away but insisted on participating as raters anyway - like it was a game rather than something that will influence the trajectory of our careers (not be TOO dramatic).

For all of OHSU's talk about diversity, I was also a little bummed that the group of raters was quite the monolith (skewed over age 70, white males).

I know MMIs - especially virtual - can be awkward, but I had one with another institution that wasn't nearly as offputting as my experience with OHSU.

My one-on-one, on the other hand, felt pretty good. My interviewer was incredibly kind and just an awesome person.

I’m sorry you had that experience! I can’t imagine how I’d proceed if someone cut me off. I’d likely feel pretty discouraged.

I believe all my raters were local, but I know the other group had someone connect from another country. From what I heard, there was a lot of connection issues. I think that station ultimately got dropped.

I think we may have interviewed on the same day then, haha. I know Kari dropped a few stations that day - and even the person who cut me off may have been dropped as well.

Thank you for your kind words - hopefully, we'll both find out soon!

We had a lot of rest stations. I wonder how they get a fair score if they’re also dropping stations. Kari said they had some kind of algorithm.

Hopefully it all works out in the end! I’m glad you felt your 1:1 went well. At least that one seems to be weighted more 🙂

Has anyone been accepted from the hold pool yet? I might have missed some people, but I don't think I've seen much/any of that on here.

I feel like the whole virtual process was upsetting 😆, who knows they may have cut you out from having a bad connection.
I'm not sure that any of my MMI interviewers were transparent on how I did answering the questions, some being easier for me than others...one in particular I went into repeat mode (obviously wasn't giving the answer they were looking for) but not having an in person experience to read the other person made it difficult to get a good gauge. Another one was hard to get a smile out of so then there's that scenario 👽
Don't be too hard on yourself though, these sites are riddled with people saying they did terrific and then they get the big ol' R and then there are others who were sure they bombed it and they get an A.

I'm sorry about your interview day, but I'm sure it was a common theme for many people, so I wouldn't stress about it too much.

But OHSU may not be the best fit if you're looking for a diverse medical school. Portland itself is one of the least diverse major cities in the US and OHSU ranked #86 in diverse medical schools on US News.

Thank you! I really appreciate your kindness 🙂 I think I needed to vent and I feel a lot better!

Oh, do I know! I've actually been part of the OHSU community for a while - hence, "all their talk about diversity". But we are doing some great stuff like the Knight Gender Equity group (which isn't that much about gender anymore) and I can't overlook that. I do love OHSU and it's much less of an unknown for me.

Did anyone else who interviewed in the last few weeks hear clearly what the timelines are for hearing. If I understand correctly, OHSU will be notifying accepted applicants between now and the end of the month, and if you dont hear by the end of the month, then you were either rejected or placed on hold. Does anyone know if a good portion of those accepted will all come out at once at the end of the month, or should accepted student here this week or next? Thanks

Here's how I understand it: some time after your interview, your interviewer will present your application to committee, then the committee will aggregate your score. If the score is beyond a certain threshold, it's an acceptance, if it's below a certain threshold, it's a refuse, and if it's between, it's a hold. If you don't see one of those options on the portal, you haven't been presented to the committee yet. They're shooting to have presented everyone by the end of this month, so if you are, say, presented tomorrow, and it's above the threshold, your portal will show that.

And then on or around April 30, the holds turn into A, R, or waitlist?

So if I understand correctly, 80% will be held until the end, and racked and stacked at the end of the month? So just because one has not heard anything by 4/25 could still mean they will be accepted after the final ranking at the end of the month?

Thanks

Historically OHSU releases their final decisions for everyone on hold/not yet presented the last week of April; accepted students hear earlier in the week and receive an email, waitlist/refused peeps hear either April 29 or April 30 via update to the portal (no email). Waitlisted peeps get their waitlist number on May 1.

I’m a reapplicant; last year accepts went out 4/27-28; waitlist 4/29-4/30; refuse 4/30

Does anyone have (quite possibly) an irrational fear their interviewer just won’t have time to meet with adcom, so instead just notes will suffice so no ones goes to bat for you 🥴

I just keep thinking about how my interviewer said several times that I have "such a nice smile" which I think means they were completely unimpressed by me. 🙄

Aw, no... Maybe they’re a bad interviewer?

Mine asked me a question that sort of put me on the spot and they said they were surprised by my answer and would have expected something else. I keep wondering what that is.

I actually ended the interview asking questions about their life. Hopefully not too probing or obnoxious.

My interview ended within 15 min... for better or worse I’ll never know 😂🤢
Hopefully we can seriously looked back and laugh at how much mental consumption we’ve given this period of our lives.

Mine went well (I think) , but felt kind of short too. I think after a panel interview elsewhere that was tough, I wasn't expecting something that felt that... relaxed. The MMI gave me plenty of intensity though. It's easy to obsess.

My interview was less than 15 minutes too... I couldn't tell if that was good or bad either :/
