Hello all! Let me ask a quick question regarding paperwork with the interview:

From my understanding,
- Physical: DoD MERB Google form within a week of invitation.
- Security: DoD Safe SF-86 before the interview week.
- Sponsor Questionnaire: DUE DATE??
- Interview Form: DUE DATE??

Do we need to submit Sponsor form and Interview form before the interview? I would love to ask the interviewer a few questions regarding branch selection so I am holding it til the interview. Hopefully I don't get a trouble by not submitting a form on time.

Thanks!

Were you able to submit sf86?

I actually am unsure of when we turn in the sponsor questionnaire. I'm turning in my interview form as soon as I get a physical scheduled, which I am unable to do right now since I cannot log in.

Anyone interviewing this week who hasn't heard from their interviewers? May reach out to my counselor tomorrow morning.

Anyone submit their forms without their physical/interview date? Or do you just say “week of Sept x” for interview date?

Could current students give me some insight regarding branch selection? My knowledge is limited to just googling on the internet.

1. I am very excited with the idea of cruising around the world for humanitarian work, GMO, and working with marines so Navy has been my #1 preference, but I found that the research works I have always wished to continue are done in USAMRDC under Army, specifically at Fort Detrick. Now I'm having a very hard time choosing a preference. So my question is: how is the research experience at USU? Do you think I'll be able to involve myself at the labs I am super interested and keep up with them through residency? (Assuming that I have competitive stats to stay near DC). After reading through comments on the internet, my current impression with research at USU is "Hey you get all the good supports except you will have no time to actually get anything done from administrative office works and deployment lolol." If research experience would be terrible, my choice is Navy without a doubt.

2. Branch Selection Manual and GME guide kind of made it look like Army is the only branch where you can apply to civilian fellowships for subspecialties not available in the military. Is this true?

3. Deployment - I'm seeing lots of different opinions about getting deployed; as short as 6 months to 18 months. Any general info on this? I am aware that this is not a fixed period but would love to have a general idea about it.

4. How's the heat with the match? Given the nature of people applying to the military medicine, I'm expecting EM and surgery to be extremely competitive, which are also my preferences. I wonder what you guys think about it.

That's lots of questions! Thanks guys 🙂

Turn your sponsor questionnaire ASAP no reason to wait

I submitted without date and let both my interviewers know and they were fine with that

I was able to. It was awesome hearing from everyone. I'm so excited about this school.

@Matthew9Thirtyfive Do you know if it counts against us to not attend the zoom meetings? I work full time and have to save my pto for the faculty interviews which were not today for me

I doubt they even keep track of who was there. It doesn’t go into your file or anything. I wouldn’t stress about it.

The 16th or 17th of July. I got the complete email on 27th.
Was the complete email before or after they sent you the email about entering the pre-requisite courses? I am not sure if I ever got a complete email. I thought they just send you an email saying here is the next step for you to do.

Also did it take a month for you guys to get the prerequisite courses email after you submitted your secondary?

Hey guys,

I submitted my primary on 7/28 and was verified 9/5. I believe I received the secondary the same day I submitted my primary (or very close to) and submitted it within two weeks. I received the pre-req match activity 8/21/20 but was unable to complete it as my primary wasn't verified until 9/5. I completed the pre-req activity on 9/9 as I was out of town 9/5 to 9/9 and didn't have access to my computer till then.

I've never received any of the "application" complete emails but when I log in to the portal it shows the "Thank You for providing the requested information screen" and to email grade updates to the counselors once courses are completed which doesn't apply to me.

How long should I wait before sending an email regarding a status update? I also want to confirm that they received my LORs and would like to raise both of these concerns in the same email.

I feel like I have a fairly strong chance at this school:

3.3 sGPA (AMCAS)
3.45 cGPA (AMCAS)
MCAT: 494 to 505
URM-Hispanic
SES-Disadvantaged (EO1 AMCAS designation
first-get college grad
1 year ROTC experience
~30 hours volunteering at VA
~100 hours volunteering at hospital
~60 hours total shadowing 3 different specialties
~1000 hours (projection) working as a lab assistant

Only thing I'm worried about is physical requirements (i know smh but gained some weight during this pandemic). I am 6'0 and weigh ~230 ish pounds that I fluctuate around. I honestly haven't been doing too much training but have the time and will to begin doing so. I'm definitely going to start running, doing push ups, sit-ups, and pull-ups but I'm not sure I'll be able to meet requirements by my physical if I receive an interview invite. How common is it to receive a waiver for not meeting height/weight standards?

I know this is super lengthy so if you read through all of this thank you!

My primary, secondary and pre-req forms were submitted almost exactly the same time as you and I also don't have anything other than "thank you for providing info". I was thinking I'd send an email to my assigned admissions counselor next week to just verify that they received all my materials.

That is what I got too. When I log into the portal I see "Thank you" as an indication of completing it but I never got a "Complete Application" Email. Not sure what happened???

It took me a couple of days to get the complete email.

I emailed my admission counselor a bit back because I made a mistake on my secondary. She informed me that she had already reviewed my application and forwarded it to the admissions committee for review. I never received a complete email either (I contacted my counselor just under 2 weeks after submitting prereqs).

Though I may have been moved to the back of the line because she had to call my app back, send it to medical review, and then forward it to the adcoms again.

So are we supposed to wait for the request code to submit sf86 or should we contact them about it? Also if anyone here has good info about the branches (pros/cons) or if any med students have insight into the school/relevant info I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

You can email [email protected] for the code

Maybe I'm freaking out but when is a reasonable time to panic? USUHS is my top school and I've had the "complete" email since 20 Jul. Prior applicant/interviewee and current AD Space Force Officer with average grades and a lower MCAT (503). Just worried I won't get an II and am wondering if I'm alone :scared:

I’ve been complete since July 20 and I submitted the secondary the first day it came out. I have a 506 MCAT, ALOT of ECs, and a very well rounded application with more than 1000 hours of volunteering and 500 hours of shadowing. I would like to believe my secondary essays were very good too. I haven’t heard anything from them. I’m a little bit of a special case though because I took the MCAT 6 times. I’m not sure if that has anything to do with why I haven’t heard back, but I’ve been talking to Matthew in personal messages and he told me that how favorable your application is doesn't correlate with when you get an interview.

Your mcat is fine. Don’t panic. Maybe start worrying in November or December.

It can correlate, but just because you don’t get an II right away doesn’t mean you’re not a quality applicant. I didn’t interview until the end of September, and people in my class interviewed way later than that.

Edited for spelling.

Do you have your Letter of Approval to apply / contingent resignation approved? I am AD officer as well, and waiting on my contingent resignation to be approved. I have a couple II's at other schools, but I haven't heard anything from USUHS yet. I wouldn't be too worried about it just yet. Maybe they are waiting to have AD applicants' contingent resignations approved and on file to be safe before shelling out II's. I know they say it is only needed prior to acceptance, but with limited availability to interview applicants, it might make sense to only dish out coveted IIs to AD applicants that are for sure cleared to apply.

II just now!! I’m freaking out lol this is by far my top choice! Complete 7/27, LizzyM 65
When did you receive the "Complete email" even though you submitted your secondary 7/27? I am beginning to think that it matters about when your application was totally complete rather than when the secondary was submitted.

I submitted my secondary on 7/17 and got the complete email on 7/27.
