Just got an II for a week from today! Instate complete in July. Also for future applicants, I did have a low key speeding ticket a few years back
You reminded me that I need to make a post about this. I got a pretty serious speeding ticket out of state 5 years ago (in a state where a speeding ticket is considered a Class C traffic misdemeanor) then took a driver's safety course. I was really worried when applying this cycle and let every school know up front. Thankfully I got multiple acceptances. (UCCOM being one of them) and it didn't seem to interfere with applying.

So a speeding ticket isn't a death sentence for your app!

Hi all, M1 here. Happy to answer any questions about UC, Cincinnati, or the interview process.

Current students, have there been any updates to the problems brought up about internal rankings? Did UC decide to go true P/F permanently or is it still premature for any rumblings about that?

M1/M2 are true P/F without internal rankings until the end of this year. Administration plans to reassess the issue at the end of this year. They haved listened to students A LOT and we have had many opportunities to voice our concerns.

Current clinical student here, and in case any of you are wondering how the medical school is treating its students...
Other medical schools, even in the state of Ohio, are vaccinating their students. We are being told that there is no timeline on vaccination for us. We have also been informed that our preceptors may have us see COVID patients. For what it's worth, we have been told we can opt out. But...being in the hospital environment, the risk of being infected is somewhat high anyway. And, many feel it's our duty to take care of sick patients, but many of us are upset that admin isn't being transparent to us about the vaccine while other systems even within our state are vaccinating their students.
If you are choosing between medical schools...just keep this in mind...just one of many factors of course...but this lack of transparency from admin can be a lot
As a further update, all medical students (M1-M4) have received appointments to be vaccinated as of today. Explanation regarding vaccination timelines given was that UC themselves received information about future vaccine shipments on very short notice, so they did not want to definitively predict/promise vaccination timelines without a guarantee.

Anyone else have trouble filling out the 25 years of residency history for the background check? Seems a bit overkill.

If it helps this website (https://www.fastpeoplesearch.com/) can help you find address history for most people. I just searched my parents and found my childhood info.

Hi, I'm the M4 who originally posted!
Glad to hear about these updates-however, I must say something. I have M4 classmates who as of yesterday, per the groupme chat, were looking for vaccines. Per the groupchat there are still people who are waiting, and a pharmacist in the cafeteria was apparently asking people if they want vaccines. A student asked-and she said that no students are allowed. A different student apparently asked without mentioning that he's a student and he was sent for a dose. So, I'm not entirely sure everyone has an appointment to be vaccinated. Personally, I was able to get the vaccine but I was also told that at the time 2/3 of the class did not.
Very nice that rankings are abolished, but I think admin should make it clear if that will remain so for future years. So much of the competition in our class stemmed from the presence of rankings. Literally, people tried to learn material-not to do well on STEP primarily, but rather to beat others. The classes would congregate before/after exams, and also at end of block parties-all the convo there was "How can I beat the average? I beat XYZ people! What did you get? Haha I beat you! Or, argh I wish I beat you!"...so yes, I do hope rankings are abolished.
For what it's worth, a classmate of mine was asked about her low ranking during an interview for a specialty that wasn't even super competitive-which shows-ranking matters-and in a school where you already have cream of the crop students, rising to the top is very hard even if you are already very good.
A few other things to note...
-The UC clinical curriculum is very rigid and inflexible. Many schools allow tons of leeway in that, you finish M3 early and have plenty of time to do rotations in your field of interest as a M4, prior to applying to residency. Obviously, this year, M3 got delayed due to COVID-BUT even before that-we finished M3 in late June allowing only a month or two to squeeze in sub-internships and away rotations and get recc letters, so keep that in mind. The number of rotations per field are also very limited here, ie, many people have had trouble getting rotations in their field of interest because of caps on the number of students who can rotate per field. Not so much an issue in IM/FM/Peds where there are many spots but if you want a specialty, beware. The UC curriculum also requires many rotations to be done, at UC itself, in the fourth year-leaving very little time for away rotations. In a normal year people could only squeeze in 1-2 away's which is less than many other schools. If you know you want to do a specialty requiring or recommending away rotations, or one requiring significant experience in the field...keep this in mind.

Are there any MSTP applicants who have not received any interview yet? This is one of my top choices and been complete since late September?

Interview just now for a week from today! I was complete October 6th. OOS but I went to high school in OH and went to UC for undergrad
Congratulations! May I ask if you sent any update letters/letters of interest before receiving the II?

Interviews from the fall - how long did they take to let you know decisions? And because im "patiently waiting" (lol) what day of the week did you find out??

I waited 3-4 weeks until I got a phone call letting me know I was accepted. I believe it was a Monday or Tuesday. The waiting after an interview is the worst part!!

Rejected. And I'm not really sure what happened. Thought the interviews went really well. I was in the range for everything else.
+1 and this is the first reject of the cycle that's lowkey kind of devastating to me 🙁 I'm in-state and spent a lot of time prepping for the MMI, thought I had a strong performance and everything.

Alt listed (Tier 2) this morning after 12/15 interview - seems like WL movement is pretty late in the cycle, so I don't think I'll hold the spot. Congrats to all who got the A! 😀

Also accepted by the phone call! I was napping and called back so it was a nice way to wake up lol. I interviewed 1/8
lmao same here, was about the get asleep and got the call! Interviewed 1/5, OOS no ties.
