To ease the anxiety for all of the lower metric applicants, the admissions staff from the courage session yesterday said if you receive a secondary, you meet the minimum academic requirements and metrics no longer influence their decision when offering an interview invitation!

Thank you SO much! This gave me a glimmer of hope. 😳

Would you mind linking directly to the part of the session that talks about this?

II recieved LM= 72, ORM completed 7/5. Do they send you guys an interview invite email? IN my email, it just says you can update your portal
Nope. Go into your portal to select an interview date and then you'll receive a confirmation email with more info.

Keep your head up! There is still plenty of time to hear back from schools! (someone correct me if im wrong) but a lot of schools have really only sent their first round or two of invites so there will be more chances!!
Ahh thank you!! I had all my secondaries done by early-mid July but I feel that my MCAT score is the big thing holding me back! I'm retaking on the 29th and super nervous! You made my day!

Which of your talents or characteristics would be most beneficial to the incoming class at UH College of Medicine? (250 characters)

Did y'all take this to mean which one of your talents/characteristics would be most beneficial, or multiple? The wording is slightly ambiguous.

I'm unsure because they'll already have access to our Personal Characteristics essay (among others), so perhaps they just want us to focus on one characteristic/talent we think would be most beneficial? Thoughts?

Which is defined as "asking for information specifying one or more people or things from a definite set." If you can include more than one, I think you should. However, I think it would be most beneficial to focus on only 2 or 3 of your strongest skills.

What is your mcat score? Mine is 505 and I'm conflicted with whether to retake it or not.

What are the chances of getting a secondary OOS? My app was trasmitted a little over a week ago and I still haven't gotten anything from this school. My stats are decent too 3.8+/518+.
Remember the class size is 30, 27 must be Texans, and their mission is to train primary care docs who want to practice in E TX or W Louisiana. If your secondary answers convincingly fit the mission, you have a chance for an interview. Your stats are good enough for any TX school.

UH COM screen primaries based on “mission fit” so it takes them a bit of time to get to your primary and decide if a secondary application is indicated/you’re a good fit. I wouldn’t worry if you have not received anything after only a week.

For what it’s worth, 100% of their EY 2020 matriculants are Texas residents and 2/3 are from the Gulf Coast Region (with 1/2 of those from GCR also from Houston/Harris county). Nobody knows what OOS acceptances will look like this year as they get to participate in their first full app cycle, but they definitely had a strong preference for IS applicants last year.

@premed_97 is correct, just want to add one reason the inaugural class is 100% Texans: The school started taking applications only in February 2020 as that is the date they were given the approval from LCME to take applications. Therefore the only people who could apply were those who already had an active and complete TMDSAS application submitted in the system, mostly Texans. That first application cycle was very quick but they were able to choose their class within a few months.

My primary was transmitted last week and I received a secondary the day after. Nontrad/GPA 3.13/MCAT 517.

After watching the courage session and after seeing how short the secondary essays were, I regret not tailoring my primary more to this school. Their mission really resonates with me.

Hi guys! I haven't received their secondary or an email from them in general? I took my MCAT on the 29th of August, median GPA, strong EC, and strong clinical experience. My primary was trasnmitted on August 4. Should I be concerned or should I send them an email? :/

I recommend waiting to contact them until your MCAT score has been sent. That may be what they are waiting to see.

They waited for my MCAT to come in before they sent me a secondary, so you're probably fine for now. I think they sent me mine a week after my score was transmitted

Is the optional question on the secondary referring specifically to any negative impacts on our education? I don't really have anything to talk about for that question if that is the case :/. Is it ok to leave it blank?

I definitely wouldn't answer if I didn't have a situation that applied to the prompt. It doesn't reflect poorly on you if you don't respond to an optional essay whose prompt doesn't apply to you. I almost think trying to twist something into fitting the prompt would be negatively perceived. You can totally leave it blank if it's not relevant for you!

That makes sense. I just feel weird leaving it blank, especially since the secondary is already so short!

Got an email Monday that my interview (originally scheduled for tomorrow - Sept 3) needs to be rescheduled due to virtual interview software not being ready. I've rescheduled to Oct 1. Did this happen to anyone else?

off topic but GO CHIEFS!!!

Hi everyone! Good luck to anyone who has an interview tomorrow 🙂 Can anyone that's interviewed in the past mention their experiences and thoughts?

Has only 1 round of IIs gone out? any idea as to when the next round will be?

Yes, it seems only one round went out on 8/21. I certainly don't know for sure, but my best guess would be a month from the first date, so maybe ~9/21?
