2020-2021 University of Houston

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Someone who has already interviewed here- can you please help me? What should I be prepared on? How is the format? I know it's an MMI but what resources did you use to help for this interview? How were the interviewers?
Also, is there an interview feedback page on sdn for this school like the other ones have?

You can search MMI questions from internet (or buy a book from amazon). Know the school inside out, specially the school mission. Know some typical traditional interview questions. Practice with your family members or friends.

Has anyone heard of a time frame for when we can start hearing back?

Honestly I don’t think anyone knows, this is just me theorizing, but I doubt we will hear back on prematches until pretty late into the cycle. Because there is such a crazy limited number of seats, i Would imagine they want to interview almost everyone before making offers. I’m prepared to sit tight until January or march honestly

It is true. However, I do not think they will interview as many applicants as Mcgovern or UTMB(1000 applicants). I think at most they interview 120 applicants and accept around 60 for the class of 30. So they could very well align with other schools' timing

Where did you get the information that they interviewed 1000 applicants. Historically they interviewed double their class size. Dell is the only school that increased the amount of interviews this year.

This room is for UH only. But let me answer this. Go and google UTMB schedule interview. It shows there are 36 days of interview in this cycle. Each day would have 30 applicants as they said. Total should be 1080 applicants. Their class size is 230. They should accept double their class size; it would be 460. So they have to interview 1080 to select 460.

Fair point.

And also, you brought up other schools so it’s weird to call me out on mentioning other schools in this thread.

Sorry I did not call you out. I was worried about the Mod get me. Lol

For those who don't know about this resource, the MSAR also lists the number of applicants interviewed for every US school. The exception is new schools, like UH, that haven't submitted that data yet.

Come on over to this thread to talk about any/all Texas schools. But y’all quit feudin’, ya hear?

For those of you who already interviewed for UHCOM this cycle, could you please post the details you received the day before the interview? And if the format is strictly MMI, should we not focus on practicing traditional questions? And did they let you write down notes while you read the prompt or is it all done mentally?

It was strictly MMI only. Practicing traditional questions won't hurt if you already did them but those are not the focus of the interview

Because interviews are virtual, how does rotating between the 8 stations work? Do you join different zoom sessions for each scenario? And for each one, is it just 1 interviewer or are there multiple?

You should roughly be able to see the layout by looking in your secondary application portal. You click a separate zoom link for each interview, and there is only one interview per station.

I am not sure how many days in advance the web interview tab appears on your portal. When it is, you should hit that tab, answer all your questions and submit. It will show you who will interview you in each station.
The day before your interview they will send you user ID and password to log in to the zoom for introduction part. After finish introduction part, then they tell you to login to your own portal.
Then hit start button on Room 1 and the question will pop up one minute before the actual MMI station starts. You'll also see a Zoom link pop up to enter the video call with the interviewer at some point. When it is done, they tell you go hit room 2... so forth

oh okay I haven't gotten all that info on my portal yet, so thank you! so do you only enter the video call with the interviewer after you finish reading and thinking about the question?

They give you one minute to read. So when the link pop up, it is time for you to answer. I did not check my portal until the 2 nights before. And I saw it there, not sure it has been there before or not. Calm down. UH is very high tech and on time. So should not be worried. You will be just fine. Good Luck! If you do not see any of this by 6 PM the day before your interview then give them a call or email them.

Interview this Thursday, and I am SO nervous! This is my first interview of the cycle, and I'm not sure what to expect from MMI. For those who have already interviewed, do you have any tips/advice for me?

Good luck! Take each station at a time. If you mess up one station don't let it affect your other stations. Take your time to think prior to answering, and don't be afraid to ask for additional time to think if you need it. The stations pass by super quickly! Dr. Desai's MMI book is good prep.

Has anyone received a message pre-match from here?
I really doubt, with their small class size, that they'll be doing much of any prematching. I'd suspect we won't know anything until match day, and that's if we don't get into a higher ranked program. I would LOVE to know what the results are after my MMI, but I may never know!

Hey! it was an email with a Zoom link to a student panel!
I wonder if they invited everyone or they only invited the people who already got interviewed?

Their FB page just launched yesterday. Give UHCOM a like and follow them to learn more.

Good luck to you all!

By chance has anyone been able to get in touch with UHCOM? I tried emailing once in October, November, and called at different times but haven’t been able to get in touch with anyone

Can anyone provide insight on about what time you started and ended your interview?
