2020-2021 University of Houston

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Is this school offering free tuition for this cycle as well?

Does anyone know if they send out hard rejections before the end of the cycle? Has anyone received one?

Does anyone know what format the interview will be? I saw something about an MMI only, is that true or will there also be an MD interview?

Also, does anyone know if there is a "night before social" of some sort?

Would y'all guess UH probably won't do a lot of pre-matching this year? Anyone know what other new schools with small class sizes have been like in the past as far as pre-match goes?

This is just their second year of selecting a class, and last year’s class was selected after the prematch period, so there is no past record to compare.
If this school is a good fit for your goals, try to convey that sincerely on your interview day. 🙂

Does anyone know if this school will interview until February? Would it cast a negative light on me to email admissions asking that? 🙁

Hi everyone, will UH possibly be announcing acceptance results on Oct 15?

All tx may begin sending prematch acceptances on 10/15. So yes. These acceptances go until January

Realistically is it worth my money to submit a secondary here if I'm OOS and don't obviously fit the mission statement? White guy with nothing that screams "primary care" on my resume

Have there been many interviews sent out for this school? I sent my secondary around early august and was complete around mid/late august (letters of recommendation were missing) and i still haven’t heard back 🙁

UH COM has been conservative in their IIs; they have only sent out ~3 batches of IIs with the last batch for applicants who applied in mid- to late-July.

EDIT: looks like a new wave of IIs came out today after posting this!

UH COM screen primarily on mission fit (their admissions office only uses GPA/MCAT metrics to decide eligibility for a secondary application; all subsequent review is based on an applicant's fit with their mission). If you have no authentic interests in primary care/desire to serve in TX after graduation, it's likely not worth the effort or application fee.

Anyone OOS received an interview? Submitted my secondary back in July.

Was it just me or did anyone else who attended the first virtual student panel hear the current students mention that they're talking about possibly having free tuition for the 2nd class as well?

Can you clarify?
is that 2 mins to read the door note & 6 mins to answer the question or 8 mins to answer the question?

Hi, so you have 1 minute to read the question and also think of your answer. Then, you wait for your interviewer to come online and they give you about 4 minutes to answer.

Hope that helps! I felt a little overwhelmed since there was very little time to think about the prompt, but not too bad.

Much appreciated. 4 minutes to answer is pretty short if there's a discussion/follow up questions. Super fast-paced. How long did the interview portion of the day take overall?

So I had 7 different interviewers. Each back to back 10 minutes. 1 hr 10 minutes exact. But, don't panic much if they don't sign in immediately. I had like 2 min with one of them and just did my best.

Thanks for the heads up. I look forward to this interview a lot.

Same here. I haven't seen anything official about it. Seems to be just a rumor. Hopefully they shed some light on it when they send out acceptances, because it could definitely sway my decision.

Actually, on my interview day, the dean mentioned something about having 16 scholarships available for the next class. Not sure if those will be full or partial.

For those of you with IIs, did you check any of the boxes on the secondary (inner-city clinic, primary care clinic, etc.)?
