2021-2022 Boston University

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congrats on the II! What dates/months were available for your interview?
Thank you! Third week of November was the earliest available. Seems like they had a few days in November and just a few in December

Did anyone else post-II get the email now about following up on current activities? If we are in a gap year and working the same job as in our primaries, should we still submit an employer letter? If so, do we submit ourselves directly or should our supervisor submit it? (not sure how they could)

I got an email as well! Not super sure about your question though. I don't think an update is mandatory--only if you feel it would be necessary.

^^ I also have this question-would it be like another LOR? Do we submit it?

The Seaport area is pretty cool, they have some cool breweries/rooftop bars if you are into that kind of thing or some really good restaurants.

North end for Italian food, Faneuil hall/quincy market, Boylston St/Prudential for shops, and Boston Common ofc

Pre-II R, second for the season lmao but I got an II elsewhere within 30 mins of them rejecting me

I haven't gotten an email from them and I was complete on 8/18. Does everyone who get rejected get an email from them? I checked my portal and it said under interview status "You do not appear to have been invited for an interview." I haven't gotten an email and my status says the application is "complete and under review".

Yes that is what I see as well and I was complete early August (feel my time is coming soon).

From the flurry of activity on this page, I think everyone ends up getting some type of message, even for reject. You could scroll up and check but I think one user said that they got a nice rejection email and their portal status changed to "Not invited to interview" or something like that

It looks like they do chronological order. It looks like they're only on early August. So, they sent rejections to the July ones who didn't get IIs because they finished final decisions on July. (I think)

So until you see IIs going out to someone who submitted after you, I wouldnt spend any energy on it.

Hi what is the dress code for the informational sessions?

So happy for you!! This gives me hope too haha
We were told today that Boston does consider Casper scores but it's not of significant weightage (but also not of trivial weightage).
Also, apparently BUSM will have finished about half its interviews by mid-December (first round of decisions release).

The informational session with the Dean was awesome. She was extremely friendly and informative about both the positives and any potential drawbacks of BUSM. Definitely increased my interest in it.

BTW, does anyone know if BUSM has internal ranking or not? The M1 student inside my breakout room in our student panel was unsure.

Pretty sure they don't have internal ranking!

The post-II email asks for an update letter from a “research mentor or supervisor.” It seems I’m the only one that can submit update letters. What exactly am I supposed to be asking the letter writer for? Is this a recommendation, or merely a job description and a statement that I work here? Also, when should I have this letter in by?

I believe that it’s a brief letter that can be formatted like a letter of recommendation but also outlines your start date and responsibilities at your new position.
Since they expect to start releasing decisions in late December, it may be best to have it in by the end of November? But it may be best to ask BU AdCom
