Received an email this Friday which at first read like a rejection email, but the second paragraph stated they want to schedule a phone interview to determine if they'll extend a full-day virtual interview. Has anybody gone through this? What is generally discussed?

???
This is the first time I've heard of a medical school doing this.

Has anyone gotten a rejection email from the university program but later an II for the college program?
This combination isn't terribly common but it does happen. The reverse tends to happen more often.

Definitely not a rejection. The admissions committee sometimes have questions before they grant an interview and I think that's why they do this. For me, I think they were mainly curious about why their program despite having significant research career (I am very non-trad) and wanted to make sure my motivation matched up with what they offer and such. You could totally get an actual interview if you do ok with phone one.

Interesting! Yeah, the email mentioned that they wanted to further discuss stuff on my application so I'll make sure to incorporate their mission into my answers to see if I can get an actual II from them since they're one of my top choice programs. Thanks for the info!

Yeah dude. I initially thought that they do not like me and I am on the bottom of their list as far as II considerations go but I don't think that is the case. They are just very careful since they only invite about 200-250 people and want to absolutely make sure of everything. They could have easily rejected you but didn't and want to gather a bit more info and/or clarify some stuff. Good luck!

II just now, ORM, LM 77, OOS, no ties, Complete 8/3.
First available date was 12/6/2021. Is the first round of decisions still released mid-December? @CWRU.Sman
Would these interview dates qualify for this round?

Thrilled to have this opportunity! I have aspired to interview at CC for nearly two years.

Has anyone received the names of their interviewers yet? I've checked the portal everywhere and haven't found anything. Interview is Monday.

Is anyone else seeing 4 new tabs under the interview section with nothing in them?

Does anyone have any ideas as to when in December the first decisions will be released? Has any information been shared in recent interviews?

First round of acceptances went out the last Monday of December (12/28/2020) based on last year's thread. Per 2018 thread, ranking meeting happens second week of December. I would expect calls to happen on 12/27 this year then.

What was the latest set of interviews to receive an acceptance then? Mine is 12/9 and I'm wondering if I will make the deadline.

I know that more acceptances are sent in February, so I am not sure if there is a necessary a cut off point. Aside from having time to discuss an application before making a decision/ranking.

Pre-II R just now. I really appreciated “no interview invite” in the subject line! Saved me from that heart attack feeling, ha. Best of luck to everyone still in the running for this super cool niche program. : )

Hey all. Sorry if this has already been asked. This is my top choice program. I was wondering if update letters or intent letters are accepted? I assume it is a top contender for most ppl who apply, so I am not sure if this would be frowned upon. Thanks!

I sent one in before the first meeting and it was well-received. Go for it!

Hey! Just wondering what you meant by before the first meeting. Meeting as in your interview or when the committee convenes? Thanks!

I'm pretty sure @squids82 meant the first committee meeting, which I believe happens around the first week of December (so now-ish). Does anyone know when it will be or if it has already happened?

Exactly what I meant! Thanks for the catch!

I’m also wondering if it has already happened or when it will. Is there any way to know? Does the adcom provide any updates in terms of decisions delays?

So no one's PI has been contacted yet I assume? I think they started calling/emailing them around this time last year.

Yep! It seems to happen a few weeks before acceptances are sent out. I don't think it's a guaranteed acceptance if your PI has been contacted, but it's definitely a very good sign.
What happens if you have 5 PIs. One is my most meaningful, would they choose him?

I was wondering the same thing about PIs being contacted. Are they contacted also at the beginning of February for those releases?

Don't feel worried if you're PI isn't contacted. I got in without mine being contacted.

Pre-II R today. Complete late September.

Best wishes everyone!
