2022-2023 New York Medical College

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The complete email said "The admissions office will regularly send out status updates to all applicants on where they stand during the cycle." And yet here we are, with 2+ months of silence. XD

Righttttt

Looking at last year it appears that the Pre-II hold is basically a soft rejection and the actual rejection will come later in the cycle, there were some reports of a minority of individuals moving to the II stage after being put on hold but it seems most late cycle II were never put on hold

Again, between here and Drexel with the holds I don’t know if I’d rather stay in silence or hear back

Submitted Late June, just got Pre-II hold today. LM 69 OOS

silence since 6/26.... No hold but checking my email in case. any insight? im getting nervous

Why would they say they will regularly send out status updates to all applicants on where they stand during the cycle if that's not how they work lol. Of course it's fine to ghost people! But don't tell them you're not like that and then proceed to do exactly that XD. This kind of thing really pisses me off.

waitlisted, interviewed mid September. In state applicant. it's not over till it's over :/
I know "it's not over until it's over" is kind of a meme here, but keep your head up, because for NYMC at least, it really is. I applied last cycle, II in September, interview in December, was waitlisted January. I went a few months gradually receiving R's from all my waitlists (I had 4 WL's, 1 post-II R, and no acceptances,) and I thought I was out on NYMC too because there wasn't really communication, and I didn't send any updates until April. But then in July, they reached out saying they couldn't accept me for their current class (2026) because it was full, but they were willing to accept me for the class of 2027 through early assurance.

If the chance is greater than zero, it's still a chance! And you'll still be a physician at the end of the day.

Congratulations! i didn't even know that there was acceptance like that with early assurance. It's like you get one year to actually chill without worrying about school or applications

Still silence from here...

Does the school take updates? 🙁 Almost Thanksgiving but
Do it man, you've got nothing to lose except a little bit of time. Granted, my letter was post-II, but they were accepting updates as late as the following year (April 30th when I submitted) Realistically I think you've got until February for pre-II though, med school interviews tended to really, really wind down around March in my cycle. But don't procrastinate like I did 😂

Bonus is that once you've written one, the rest become easy, because the general skeleton of the letter is the same; the only real thing you change is the part where you talk about how the school can help you achieve your goals.
