2023-2024 Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine (RowanSOM)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
+1 I also got the email today with dates for the interview!! My interview offer was 1/9 like everybody else, but I was able to schedule myself for this coming Wednesday 1/31

Good luck. Just wonder how long it takes Rowan to give a decision after interview completed?

Thanks so much!! I honestly have no idea how quick they give responses but I think I saw someone say that they got the A literally like a week after they interviewed. It probably depends on how often the committee meets and how many applications they have to review. I'll ask when I interview next week and get back to you on what they say though!! 🙂

Interviewing soon. For those who interviewed, any advice? where should I prepare from? Thanks!

The email says that my interview will be conducted by Dr. X but just to clarify, the interview is more of a one-on-one style rather than a panel interview, like they mentioned on their website?

Just hopping on to give my interview experience. It was super conversational, one-on-one style, and the questions were more about the things u did on ur apps and maybe explain more on certain things, but I was not really stressed out. It flowed really well! Also, the admissions office said typically you get your decision within 2-4 weeks, because I believe they meet every 2 weeks and depends on how fast your interviewer gets their notes in. If I had to say anything to prepare, just be ready to answer "Why Rowan? Why DO?" and it goes from there. It would also be nice to read up on your interviewer and have a couple of prepped questions for them to ask as it is more conversational. But if you have an interview, please dont stress. According to the dean herself, rowan is super selective with the interviews and the interview is mostly to vibe check you lol so u guys have a high HIGH high chance of admissions. Hope this helps someone!

1st yr SGL here. I like to answer in the main thread so others can read.

PBL does not have lectures (but they do have access to some of the SGL lectures as a resource). They attend 3x weekly case discussion on Mon Wed Fri. PBL does not have cadavers. PBL test much less frequently so they rarely come to campus for exams.

SGL has lectures. They are not mandatory. You can do them entirely via the online recordings (majority) but some people do like to go in-person (minority). SGL also has cadaver lab in-person. SGL has more tests/quizzes etc in-person so that does bring you to campus typically on Friday mornings. Hence, SGL gets more weekends off than the PBL. SGL tests on Fridays every 2-3 weeks. So the weekend immediately after a test, we get to take it fully off with no responsibilities at all. PBL tests every 6-8 weeks, so they have fewer weekends where they can truly do nothing. Given that SGL has multiple exams per unit, you can work up a cushion to your grade, so I do feel that we're under less pressure academically.

Overall, SGL is on campus less than PBL but there's much more variance, I can have several days in a row where I don't go to campus at all (which the PBL never gets to do) which is nice for travel. SGL can sleep-in more often because we typically only have 1-2 morning sessions a week vs PBL who always have a minimum of 3 morning sessions. I do feel that the workflow for PBL is more consistent day-to-day, but they also can take a day fully off without getting behind, unlike the SGL where your schedule is more set in stone.

Each group goes for OMM Lab 1x a week. OMM I'd say is light/moderate, hard to compare to other DO schools given that I can only attend 1. Practical exams on techniques + written questions on our main exams (usually serves as a grade-booster).

My short answer is: SGL has to be on campus slightly less. BUT ultimately it is student-dependent. If you study on campus + do research and clubs, you'll always be on campus. That's true regardless of curriculum choice.

As for the rotation sites, haven't been through it myself so take this with a grain of salt. Most of the upperclassmen seem happy with the process. Most stay in South Jersey (especially with the affiliation with Virtua), with some going up to Central or North Jersey. Farthest South you can go is Delaware.
Hey I have one more question if that is okay, I appreciate your help. 🙂
When is someone "locked into" PBL or SGL? I selected PBL in my secondary, but I'm undecided. Can I choose after the interview, if I get accepted? Thanks.

You can switch between PBL and SGL easily after getting accepted, gets harder to move as you get closer to the start of class

I asked my interviewer, she said it depends on availability at the time of acceptance

In the orientation session, Dean Watkins is that they are kinda holding off on switching the SGL and PBL curriculm until closer to the end of accepting the class. She said its bc they are currently "building" the class, and based on availability you may be able to switch. I think it is possible but not guaranteed unfortunately

hey guys out of curiosity for PBL students.

what text books do we use ?

OS II received on 1/29! Second time interviewing here at Rowan, fingers crossed ill get the A this time around

WL candidate from last year, interview on 2/20 this year (hopefully the second time's a charm lol), last year the decisions that went out to those interviewing at this time were a majority for WL spots, did your interviewer say anything about the wait list?

Hi thank you so much! I interviewed early February last year and received the interview invite on 1/28/2023, which is almost identical in terms of dates for my second time around right now

OOS II today. The only interview dates available are less than a week away, and I won't be able to get off work with so little notice. Does anyone know if they going to open more dates soon?

Congratulations! I think someone had a similar experience in this thread and gave them a call about, trying scrolling back and making sure.
Mind sharing stats or completion date?

Sure, submitted late September and completed 1/27. GPA 3.48 and MCAT 505

has anyone who completed months ago still not heard back :/ , they keep saying to wait but idk what to do now. Was completed 11/3 and submitted in September but still nothing

For those who had the orientation, did it take the whole 2.5 hours? If not, how long was it actually. Just gotta figure stuff out w work

What's orientation like? How many people are in attendance usually?

I'd say so. I emailed them and no response. I plan on calling them as well.
Schedule a student tour and go to the campus. You can speak with admissions directly. This is how I was able to get an interview invite since I had no issues on primary application.

I'm an out of state applicant but I may do this anyway. Thank you.

Congrats. Did they say anything about the class filling up? Glad to know it’s not all WL at this time. I interviewed day after and have not heard anything yet. That’s making me much more nervous now

And did anythin change on ur portal

Thank you. I hope you hear back soon. The person who called me was my interviewer and it was more so just congratulations and informing me that I was accepted. I did not ask anything about WL or class filling up unfortunately.
