At the AAMC fair yesterday the UCLA prime person said they have a ton more to screen and are planning to let folks know about interviews in December -- obvs a totally different school but maybe that's some hope that UCSF PRIME is also still chugging along through screening
That’s awesome to hear! Thanks for the info.

So we won’t hear anything about II until December? Or a bulk of the IIs won’t come out until then?

For those wondering about MD/Prime like I was, UCSF at the moment has 1 October, 1 November, and 1 December date per month for a combined md/prime interview that’s usually in the end of the month—as explained during their OH by some members of the admissions committee. I don’t remember if the prime person said October 24th as being the day if the interviews are being extended or if they’re being conducted, but prime/MD candidates are considered once a month with one interview altogether, and MD only are considered and interviewed separately at least 3x a week. Hope this helps some people who were just as lost as me lol.

Thank you!!! do you know how JMP fits into this too? i applied md/jmp/prime

Yw! I actually don’t know… they mentioned that JMP/traditional interviews were being done atm but didn’t mention all 3. They have OH on Fridays though if you want to go and ask them the status of your app. 🙂
Oh, I did not know they have OH! Where can I get more information about this?

Link to their office hours under "Contact Us" on this page. Happening right now actually!

I just called them and they said that primary applications are processed chronologically. So I guess I'm pretty ****ed with my Sept 29 submission.

I was really hoping that they would prioritize based on stats.

+1 Secondary today... primary submitted early June... huh?????????
I'm so confused. They told me on the phone that they process primaries by order of submission. Why are they only getting to yours now?

What are your stats?

They've primarily been going by order of submission, but it looks like now they're simultaneously circling back around

I also got a secondary a week or so ago despite being verified one of the first days possible. So they’re wrong😂
I wonder if “processing” is not the same as “giving secondaries”? Because I also got a secondary months later than other people who were supposedly verified on the same day as me. Maybe they start looking at new apps in order, but don’t necessarily make decisions in that same order?

What it looks like is, they do a first pass chronologically and take people who they're certain in that moment they want to extend a secondary to, and reject people who they know they won't send a secondary to. Now, they're going back to the people who neither received a secondary nor were rejected during that first pass to reevaluate them and send out more secondaries.

Does anyone know how heavy the screening process is? Or what they take into consideration from the primary application?

For the screening for a secondary, they look at your whole primary except your LORs

Right but do you know what exactly they look at? Bc I submitted my primary 9/7 and received a secondary 10/10, and then I’m seeing posts about submitting primaries early on but just now receiving secondaries

Hey does anyone know whether having to schedule an interview in January will tank my app? i know some schools interview for the waitlist only at that point. they gave me one option to schedule which i will not be able to make. Looking at middle of december or into january.

No school will dock you. If you can't make it, reschedule

I heard UCSF doesn't send any A's until February (I believe I got this from their website) so I doubt you'll be at a disadvantage! But someone else chime in if I am wrong.

It worked! they could reschedule 🙂 its always so comical to me when a school is like "log in to select your interview date!" but they only open up one date on the calendar. Seriously though so grateful i really counted them out at this point. For those of you who are curious- complete 8/7 LM79

I feel like it has to be more nuanced because people are also receiving pre-secondary Rs. They might be going chronologically but making multiple passes, or have some kind of sorting that groups applications and then they go through those chronologically. My primary was verified 8/3 and I've had silence from UCSF so far but i'm not holding my breath at this point.

I dont even know what to believe anymore lol people received secondaries on Saturday that were verified June and September 😵🤔

I think most schools have ways to filter applications by specific criteria (stats, hours, IAs, etc.) and then review applications based on applications that align with their preferences first. So, on our end, it's just going to feel random. Plus, we only get info from people who choose to post on this forum which tells us very little in terms of trends lol

I feel like this was asked already but I cannot find it. Does anyone know if UCSF actually wants 4 credits of biochem? My course was only 3, so I'm not sure whether I should sign up for a lab or not.

Lol I'm not asking as part of the grading process

It may depend on your school and what they offer. My school only had a three class chem series (semester system) that covered gen chem and ochem. But really only one of those classes focuses on gen chem and most med schools require a year of gen chem. However, med schools know about it and accept it as fulfilling their requirements. So they may grant you an exception. Maybe email and ask?

Did you already get a secondary?

Hmm interesting, appreciate the advice and I'll probably just end up emailing them. I got an II here recently.
