2024-2025 Lincoln Memorial University DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-DCOM)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I submitted a primary on 10/6 and have not received any type of confirmation that they received it or secondary invite. Is this typical for LMU? Just wondering since other schools responded within 48hours.

Yep. I had to wait about a week and a half for a secondary.

Thank you @SmoggyAidi for talking some sense. I appreciate your comment. I find it sad that some people feel like that have to go on anonymous forums and tear down a school since they are not having the success they would like…or even failing.

For those applying/currently accepted to DCOM. The COMSAE is a pre-exam for the COMLEX that is made by the same company. Every single DO school (as far as I’m aware) has their students take the COMSAE. This isn’t some weird exam that only DCOM does to make their board scores look better. The standard passing rate is a 450. This year DCOM raised the passing rate to a 460. Most DO schools have their passing score between 450 and 500.

To address the cheating concerns. To begin you have to understand that no institution is completely void of cheating. It sucks but unfortunately there are always students that will find ways to cheat. I have friends that are at big “well known” schools that have frats where they share test answers from the year before. Let it be said that I in no way condone the cheating, but I do feel it’s unfair to single out one school when it happens every where. That being said the cheating described by the person above is very exaggerated. It would be EXTREMELY hard to cheat on the exams like they claim. We have in person proctored exams. Everyone is required to have privacy screens and on top of that the questions are randomized for every person. So even if you could see someone’s screen the likelihood of you being on the same question is very low. The other claim is that somehow these students have a photographic memory and just remember every question to tell their friends taking the exam at a later date. I don’t know about you but after taking an exam of over 100 questions I can maybe remember like 5 questions. If someone is sharing 5 questions, that’s dishonest but it’s definitely not gonna make someone pass their exam. The second half of that to work would require that a student got permission from the administration to take their exam at a later date which as you can guess has to have a legit reason for. They don’t just hand out “free take the exam 2 days later” cards to just anyone that asks. So the whole idea that everyone is cheating on written exams is ridiculous. The accusations of people cheating on quizzes is fair, but they are worth like 2 points and only get added to your grade if you get a 70% average on exams. In other words the quizzes can’t make you pass a course. You still have to pass all your exams first and the points given from quizzes after that are almost negligible.

Hopefully this clears up any doubts people have had from reading previous comments.

I’ve taken time to write this because I have genuinely enjoyed going to school at LMU-DCOM. Is it perfect? No, but I don’t think a perfect school exists. Bottom line is DCOM is helping fulfill my dream of becoming a Doctor, and overall I’ve been very satisfied with the education I’m receiving. I’m currently a second year so if any of you have questions please reach out.

It still remains a top choice for me because I live here and it has everything I'm looking for. There will always be negative people, thanks for clearing things up.

Is that such a bad thing? If you can't consistently score above above a passing on COMSAEs, you have a high chance of failing the COMLEX. You can always make excuses as to why you delayed the COMLEX, but a board failure is much much worse on your resume if you're trying to match.

I do share some of your frustrations of how the admin seem to like pulling last-minute changes to curriculum, but I thought the COMLEX requirements are reasonable.
It is a bad thing because it shows that the program is very poor at preparing students to pass boards on their first attempt.
Why would you spend an obscene amount of money to not pass on your first attempt or put it off? Any other school has a high rate of pass w/ all students accounted for, this one, only a small %.
If you like being in debt and attending a poor program go here, but idk why you would want that.

I'm hoping to tour the campus soon (Harrogate) does anyone have any reccs about the best airport to fly into?

Anyone else accepted and paid the deposit figure out how to select a campus?

9/13 II
9/30 OOS A

Paid ~$1280 (fee incld) deposit which should go towards admission. I called the office and was told by the next day, I should receive an email confirmation on our assigned campus.

UPDATE: 10/1 - Issue signing into school email account, waited one day for the processing to complete then was able to pay deposit
UPDATE: 10/3 - received email confirming the assignment to my preferred campus of choice
On Page 3 of the forum, I inserted the quote of the timeline of campus selection. Hope it helps! 🙂

I can’t say that I have ever felt “lucky” to be at DCOM because I had a lot of acceptances else where and am now wishing to be anywhere else but here.
Take your advice from OMS-II’s for your didactic portion and III & IV for clinical rotations.
(Also, if you read what I typed, it’s pretty explanatory, I hope you can read a patients chart better for the future)
Go somewhere else then. Transfer.

About how long has it taken for people to hear back after their II's?

OOS II- (10/18)

im trying to decide which campus I prefer and need to pay my deposit by Nov 11. I haven't been to either yet and don't think ill make it before this date. I am torn right now wondering if anyone had any input about Knoxville and Harrogate for me??

@ilovebiology1010 it really just depends what you are looking for. Technically, we are all in the “same class” even though we are at different campuses. We all get ranked together, have the same professors, and have the same curriculum. I am at the Harrogate campus and love it. Knoxville has some great options too, though I’m not there so can’t speak much on it.

Harrogate has an actual campus feel. You are there with other graduate students and undergraduate students. You study on a beautiful and traditional campus and have access to a gym, intramurals, sporting events (basketball, baseball, lacrosse, soccer, etc), and tons of clubs. You also have great volunteer options like the Cumberland Gap Fire Department, the community wellness center, and Lincoln’s Cupboard (an on campus food pantry). Additionally rent is WAY cheap compared to Knoxville. The obvious downside is that it’s a small town without much to do in your free time. You have access to a few restaurants, a few grocery stores, and a large selection of fast food. There’s also some great out doors activities including hikes and rivers. But apart from that there’s not much to do. For me it hasn’t been an issue since you spend most your time studying and then the times you do have off Knoxville is only about an hour and 10 minutes away. And Gatlinburg is only 2 hours away.

I’ll let somebody else talk on the Knoxville campus since I don’t go there. But both campuses are great options in my opinion. Just depends what’s important to you in terms of life outside of school.

thank you so much!!

A here! Here are some of the questions I was asked during the interview because it was helpful when other interviewees posted their questions. It was a very chill conversation and it was really nice to meet the interviewer and get to know them. I was asked the usual tell me about yourself, what qualities will help you through med school, what specialty I was interested in, what part of med school do I think will be the hardest, and why LMU. They loved that I worked a lot with underserved communities because they really emphasize that in their mission and values. They give a lot of info on the school and their resources, they really did a great job! They gave me quite a bit of time to ask questions which I was not expecting so have some questions ready!
