I'm sorry to hear about the R! UCSF is truly holistic so there must've been something about you/your app that really stood out to them and made them believe you would a great asset to their community. Maybe it was your story, your research, your LORs...regardless you stood out apart from the rest. Even though it resulted in an R, I think you should take great pride in having been selected from 8,000+ applicants to be apart of a small class (esp for MD-PhD) at a world renown research university. You are amazing! And will go far. <3

For the revisit weekend: I know we are supposed to be getting more info in March, but does anyone know if they offer housing?
 
A quick question, do we need to do anything for the waitlist? I'm waitlisted for JMP/MD IS. I know some other schools require you to submit a confirmation to be on the waitlist.
 
I have an interview this week. Can someone share what the interview day is like? Like what are we doing on Zoom for 8 hours, what's the interview like, etc.? I have no clue what to expect and UCSF is a top choice lol

Yea it’s pretty chill, you get the itinerary the morning of, and it depends on if you applied to any programs. Usually two interviews. It lasted the whole day for me

Hello, I have a few basic questions and would appreciate any insight.

For context, I am an IS applicant and interviewed in Nov. On 2/6, I received an email notifying me that I was placed on the alternate list.
  1. Is the alternate list the same as the waitlist?
  2. Does UCSF reject any applicants post-interview, or is everyone who isn't accepted initially placed on the waitlist?
  3. According to MSAR, 50 out of 150 students get off the waitlist—can anyone confirm if this is accurate?
  4. Is it true that we won’t hear back about waitlist movement until May at the earliest?
  5. I keep seeing mentions of "Okta" in this forum—what is it?
  6. Any tips to get off the alternate list?
Hopefully this information would be helpful for others as well.

1. Yes
2. They reject some people post II. Last year (and 2023) that happened a few days after WL notifications got sent in early Feb.
3. Hard to say. Most schools have variable amounts of WL movement. There has typically been movement most years based on SDN alone, but some years have less comments than others.
4. Possible to hear in April but most likely in May
5. Haven't kept up with that so not sure
6. Send in grade updates if still in school and/or an update letter with any significant progress in activities since your last update or since you submitted AMCAS.

Is it recommended to submit the school specific financial aid app before or after they give us decisions? I was a little unsure from the wording on the financial aid mail they sent, if they just want the app completed even before getting an acceptance or it was more to keep in mind to do it asap if someone gets in?

I was accepted recently and I would recommend completing it.

There is a login that you need to complete it - I received mine physically in the mail. If you haven’t received it yet, then maybe email for the login info?

In the meantime there’s also the CSS + FAFSA
 
Does UCSF accept post interview letters of interest? Or just updates? I don't have too much in terms of updates tbh, just some small research related stuff. I still do want to express interest etc... but if UCSF is a school that doesn't want that and only looks favorably on updates, I wonder if it's worth sending.

I emailed them and they accept a LOI post-II and up to 2 updates post-II (1 page max, pdf format)

Oh you don't have a decision yet? Sorry I just assumed you were WL. No letters of interest until waitlisted. It might be too late to add your update to your file if they made a decision but doesn't hurt to try

this might be a stupid question but do y'all know if uc regents scholarships are tied to the acceptance offer (just like in undergrad) or distributed once fin aid packages are out?

Hey, we did get an internal match list for 2024, but we were told it's confidential (I'm guessing bc it has personal info). So unable to share it unfortunately 🫤. I can try to reach out and see if they'd be willing to put an anonymized one out if you'd like. The 2025 match is around the corner tho so might be unlikely
