how many oor get a secondary?

Very few. For the entering class of 2023 out of 5233 OOR-MD applicants 86 completed secondaries. Maybe a few more received them but decided not to complete so I would guess somewhere between 90-100.
agree + with the secondary fee only $35 i believe that number completed to how many is probably accurate (maybe an odd sum just not wanting to do another secondary)

i’m feeling very blessed right now to say the least! i didn’t think i would get a secondary :,)

How many people get a mission statement request? All OOR applicants?

Has anyone received an OOS secondary with a mission statement alignment submission after 7/16? They said it would take 1-4wks to review, but haven't heard anything.

My kid didn't receive the mission statement invitation until 7/24, and submitted it a few days later. Given how few secondaries are even sent to OOR applicants, this isn't a school to hold one's breath over but should be considered a gigantic win if you receive it.

how the heck do people afford to go to this school?? it's so expensive in state as well as out of state (talking about seattle campus)

Whoever got the OOS secondary so far, when did you submit the form? I submitted it on 7/31 but I haven’t got a decision yet, was just wondering if they already gave out all the secondaries and will update the rejection later into the cycle?

Current MS1 at UW here! Accepted as an OOR applicant. Lmk if y'all have any questions that I can (hopefully) answer!

Do you find yourself noticing your OOR status amongst your classmates? How did you advocate your need to attend UW without regional ties?

Hi, I'm also an OOR MS1 at UWSOM Seattle. I don't notice much difference between my IS and OOR peers. Most of us, while from WWAMI, have spent time living or studying OOR. In my secondary app and interview, I emphasized my upbringing in rural WA and connections to the region.

Cost of attendance can be found here. Most graduate students qualify for federal Stafford and grad PLUS loans, which can cover the full coa without a cosigner. Some OOR students receive tuition waivers, paying the same as in state students, through the criteria for these waivers are not publicized. UWSOM also offers scholarships post-acceptance (I think around $10K), with application due in June or July.

Hope this helps, best of luck!

hi everyone! How do you check if you are considered an OOR applicant or a IS applicant. I graduated high school in WA but I went to school and am taking a gap year in a different state. I received a secondary so I’m still unsure what I would fall under.

If you are a non-wwami resident I believe you are considered OOR. If you are still a legal washington resident and your residency is listed as washington on amcas then you might be considered IS.

Edit: if you received a secondary you are likely considered IS, did you have to fill out the mission statement thing before receiving a secondary?

I submitted the residency form and then got the secondary. I did not receive the mission statement form. In the portal under application tracker, the Residency Verification says Not Required so I wasn’t sure I didn’t need it because I was a WA resident or because I was OOR

Yeah, I am a current WA resident and had the same experience. I think you are probably considered as a WWAMI applicant then. You can always reach out to admissions if unsure.

if you didn't do the mission statement then you are considered WWAMI if you got a secondary! they base it off of legal residency, so if your drivers license still says WA then you're good to go

Oh I see. So when are applicants required to fill out the Residency Verifications?

Very rarely notice it! I did have ties to WA, so that made advocating for myself easier. Show your desire to work with populations (especially those that are medically underserved) in the PNW. You can also describe how you align with the personal values that UW upholds.

As previously posted, the COA is all on UWSOM's website! You can get loans to cover everything. I qualified for the OOR tuition waiver, and I know of a few other OOR classmates who also qualified for it. It wasn't something I specifically applied to, I was just notified that I received the waiver shortly after getting my acceptance.

I think this is something you can worry about once you get accepted

It depends. You fill out the fafsa and disclose how much money you have in your bank account. Then you will get loans that cover tuition + cost of living - the money you have in your bank account. As others said if you get a waiver your tuition + cost of living will equal the amount listed on the website for in-state students.

You will take out loads of money in loans regardless of where you go to school, you should focus on getting the A first IMO.

OOR Secondary received!! Mission statement was submitted 3 weeks ago and I thought I was cooked.
